Sumatra's Greatest Fan - Chapter 173: Vara Lantern

Chapter 173: Vara Lantern
Torq next began to extract the genetic strands associated with granting the Nature of Free Cultivator and began collection of the same after making a Boutique Lizaroid Pet.
Once he concentrated it to a certain level, there was a fundamental change in the fluid, causing Prana to well up within it, ’Wow! So, this is the final result, huh?’
High Grade Elixir–Free Cultivator!
Upon consumption of this Elixir, a Pranic Beast will have a small chance in obtaining the Tertiary Nature of Free Cultivator. It all depends on if their body is able to adapt to the added genetic strands and birth the Nature.
Of course, even if they fail, once the effects of the High Grade Elixir vanish in four years, they could consume it once again. But if they fail to obtain it even by this point, it was better to forget it, since they’d now grown old enough for the chances of them getting the Nature of Free Cultivator to drop to abysmal levels.
’A significantly talented Cooter Clansman could inspect this Elixir and reverse deduce the refinement process. They could even find alternate production formulas that use ingredients in their possession.’ He thought as he stared at the Elixir, ’Whether it be the Mammoth Clan or Cooter Clan, they will desperately wish to buy this Elixir, since with this, their Deities could safely obtain the means to protect themselves against enemies that can counter their large builds.’
’Best of all…’ He thought upon further inspection, ’With the way this Elixir works, only Pranic Beasts on Sumatra can take advantage of it.’
Sumatra Continent followed the law of survival of the fittest, prioritising adaptation above all. Every other Continent, including Nusantara Continent, followed the law of survival of the strongest.
Adaptation was next to nonexistent in their dictionary, due to their power progression. Their Primary Natures were extremely rigid in nature, resisting all forms of change.
Hence, even if they were to consume the Free Cultivator Elixir, they wouldn’t obtain the Tertiary Nature of Free Cultivator.
’Now that I’m sure our enemies cannot take advantage of this, I can proceed with the next step.’ With that, he left the house to purchase another Pranic Beast for his experimentation.
He wore a robe that was tight around the arms and legs, while baggy around the midriff. Ribbons of brown and red were strung around the hip and the tips of the sleeves, having loose, fluttering ends.
Strapped to his hip was an object that was a dark grey, with traces of black and white strewn amidst like the veins of a leaf. The object was the size of his fist and shaped like an egg. On its top, a nail had been driven halfway into it.
The nail portion was made of the same material, and wasn’t a separate object. The entirety of the object was carved out of one piece, called Vara, which was sourced from the tusks of the Empyrean Boar Race.
Whether it be the tusks of the Empyrean Boars or its sister races, all generated the same Vara, albeit with minor differences. Their overall purpose was the same.
Vara had the property of storing Natures, influences stemming from Natures, and Nature effects. Originally, it could only store Natures. However, over the decades since the Varahan Empire had been founded, research had been extensively conducted on this mineral, developing its properties over time.
’Only the basics of this had appeared in the book. And now, it has developed to such an extent.’ Torq thought as he patted the object strung to his hip.
It was called the Vara Lantern, mimicking the name given to the Mammoth Clan’s Storage Lantern. The Vara Lantern was able to store multiple Natures within it. That wasn’t all.
As the Wean Clan and Varahan Empire were in a constant state of civil war, having dispatched spies to each side for information collection, in an effort to one up each other, they were all making distinct progress on multiple fronts.
The Varahan Empire stole the gains of the Wean Clan. Similarly, the Wean Clan stole the gains of the Varahan Empire. And as both sides kept it up, they were developing their power system at exponential levels.
’On Earth, rampant development happened during the World Wars.’ Torq thought, ’Before World War 1, humans were using horse driven carriages. By the end of World War 2, aeroplanes became commonplace.’
The Vara Lantern in his possession had a capacity to store 27,000 Credits. The Credits here was the weakest Iron Grade Nature in possession of the Varahan Empire prior to the civil war.
Beginner Iron Grade Pranic Beast–Yoked Wyrm!
Primary Nature–Bio-Synthesis!
Yoken Wyrms lived in large numbers around trees, aiding in the rapid growth and development of plant vegetation. They then consumed the excess growth of these trees to proliferate in excessive numbers.
Their fertility rate was one of the highest on Sumatra. And most of all, their cost of fertilisation was the lowest, allowing the Yoked Wyrms to increase their numbers at such speeds, without enough predators to keep them in check, they could overpopulate and collapse a region.
The Nature of Bio-Synthesis required the least amount of storage space in the Vara Lantern. And thanks to this Nature’s commonness and ease of obtaining, it formed the basic currency system of both the Wean Clan and the Varahan Empire.
One Nature of Bio-Synthesis was treated as a single Credit. Everything in the two regions were assigned value according to this Credit system.
Yoken Wyrms were native to the Varahan Enclave. And at present, the Wean Clan reared massive nests to produce millions of Yoked Wyrms daily.
The Varahan Empire was pretty bullish in this regard too, constantly building newer and bigger nests to raise Yoked Wyrms. It was their currency system, after all.
The seemingly infinite production of Yoked Wyrms didn’t inflate their economy. After all, the Nature of Bio-Systhesis has uses in multiple fields, where they get consumed constantly.
Even in the production of Vara Lanterns, the Nature of Bio-Systhesis gets used, for the influence generated by this Nature in large numbers was one of the refinement methods that give the Vara Lantern the property to hold Natures without damaging or dissipating them over time.
Torq’s Vara Lantern had a shelf life of 120 years at the moment. Meaning, all Iron Grade Natures stored in it won’t be spoiled for at least 120 years.
There were higher versions of the Vara Lanterns, meant to store and preserve Silver Grade Natures and higher. Every few years, a new version of the Vara Lantern would appear, with a bigger capacity of Natures and a greater shelf life.
Torq’s Vara Lantern was currently at close to maximum capacity, storing about 26,950 Credits. It was the entirety of his allowance, ’Let’s see how much it costs to purchase this Pranic Beast. Well, I don’t need to actually purchase it. Just patches of its skin would do.’
He got into a Pod, followed the chart installed within it, and keyed in his destination, feeling the pod whirr into motion immediately after, ’If there wasn’t an Invasion, this region would have been a heaven to live in for the rest of my life.’
