Chapter 237: Chapter 158: The Cangjin Empire’s Unrest and Resolving the Distance Problem
After entering the month of Autumn’s Eve, the breath of autumn gradually became richer.
The plains surrounding Flash City were tinged with a layer of pale yellow.
Easily making his way into the palace, Sunan arrived at the central palace.
Passing through the courtyard, he saw from a distance three little children playing in the courtyard, surrounded by more than ten maids.
Noticing Sunan, the eldest boy shouted “Uncle” as he ran over, clutching Sunan’s leg.
The other two younger boys and girls also followed, curiously observing Sunan.
“Sir!”
The maids following them respectfully bowed in ceremony.
Sunan waved his hand, bent down slightly, and smiled as he gently patted Abbott’s head.
“Where’s your father?”
“Father is in the council hall,” Abbott responded crisply.
Sunan smiled slightly and looked at the boy and girl behind him.
“You must be Wes and Adela.”
Wes was Kei’s second son, and Adela was his first daughter.
“How do you know our names?” Wes tilted his head in puzzlement and asked.
Adela was still young and could not speak well, she simply sucked her fingers, staring at Sunan with her big, bright eyes.
“Because I am your uncle.”
“What is an uncle?”
Sunan chuckled silently and didn’t answer, instead patting the little one’s head and turning to the maids.
“Take care of them.”
After giving a simple instruction, Sunan turned and left.
After he walked far away, Abbott reluctantly withdrew his gaze, turned around and tapped his brother’s head.
“Fool, Uncle is Father’s brother, everyone says Uncle is a very amazing person.”
Wes only half understood, soon distracted by the butterfly flying past, and ran happily to chase it.
…
Arriving at the council hall, Kei was discussing matters with the ministers.
From the initial Black Stone City to today’s Starry Principality, Kei’s followers had grown significantly.
There were also many new faces unknown to Sunan.
The dozen or so people sitting in the council hall were all high-ranking nobility of the principality.
However, Sunan only knew a few, like Brad, Jordon, and Stali.
Compared to ten years ago, Brad and the others showed the wear and tear of time, their hair showing streaks of silver.
Even the strength of a great knight cannot withstand the erosion of time.
Fortunately, years of indulging in luxury had left them looking healthy and spirited.
Among the crowd of middle-aged ministers, Kei appeared quite young.
After all, at just thirty years old, he was in the golden period of a man’s life.
With legendary level strength, he still had a long way to go before aging.
“Lord Sunan!”
Seeing Sunan enter, everyone stood up to greet him.
Kei also smiled and waved to the crowd.
“That’s all for today, we’ll discuss other matters tomorrow, you can go back now.”
Brad and the others agreed and tactfully withdrew.
The hall suddenly became empty, leaving only Kei and Sunan.
Once the servants brought the red tea and placed it on the table before leaving, Kei smiled and said:
“I haven’t seen you for months; have you been busy with the new base recently?”
Sunan had mentioned the base migration to Kei.
Though a bit regretful, Kei respected Sunan’s decision.
Besides, Base No. 1 wasn’t entirely abandoned and would continue to serve as a transit point.
As long as that place remained, Flash City would feel a bit more secure.
“It’s almost done.”
Sunan took a sip of red tea, put it down, and changed the subject.
“I read the gazette, the Golden Empire hasn’t been very stable lately?”
Though he spent most of his time in the underground world, Sunan never ignored the status of the surface world.
Starry Principality sorted out the latest important intelligence into a gazette every month, which was sent to the great nobles for their viewing, and also to Sunan’s study.
According to the descriptions in the gazette, the Golden Empire had frequently conducted military exercises in the neighboring border city to the Starry Principality over the past two months, and royal advisors speculated that the Golden Empire might be using this as a guise for certain military maneuvers.
“The principality’s existence already threatens the Golden Empire’s dominance in the southeastern domain, it’s not surprising that his Imperial Majesty might take action against the principality.” Kei said calmly.
If it were any other country’s ruler, upon learning that their nation was targeted by the Golden Empire, they might feel anxious if not outright alarmed, certainly troubled.
But Kei was different.
Because Sunan was in Starry Principality.
Others might not know, but Kei was aware of how powerful the Star Alliance Sunan established in the underground world was.
Truth be told, the war capacity of the Star Alliance was even far stronger than that of the Starry Principality.
With such a reliable ally, Kei naturally had no worries.
However, this was also the main reason the Golden Empire had targeted Starry Principality.
With Sunan, Starry Principality was like a young lion poised for great potential.
As long as the Golden Empire wasn’t foolish, they couldn’t just watch Starry Principality grow strong and someday vie for dominance in the southeastern domain.
In fact, Kei knew well that if it weren’t for concerns about Sunan, the Golden Empire might have already launched an attack on Starry Principality.
“What are you planning to do?” Sunan asked.
“Although I’m not fully prepared, if the Golden Empire wants to go to war, I’ll respond in kind.”
Kei said with a confident smile.
“The only problem is the wizard of the Golden Empire’s royal family, called Staff, belongs to the same wizard organization as you, doesn’t he?”
