The Broken Halo - Chapter 353: Crushed

Chapter 353: 353: Crushed
The clash at the intersection intensified.
Steel met stone.
Blades struck hardened flesh.
The loud sounds of the battle and impacts echoed repeatedly as the Shadow Blades moved in coordinated bursts, striking from different angles while the Bulwark demons held their ground like immovable walls.
At the center of the Shadowgrave group stood the Veilmaster, and his voice cut clearly through the noise of the battle.
“Don’t engage head-on.”
“Rotate to the left. Create space.”
Two Shadow Blades immediately disengaged, slipping back just as a Bulwark’s heavy strike crashed into the ground where they had been.
“Third unit, pressure the flank. Don’t overcommit.”
The Veilmaster’s orders were sharp and precise, and every movement of the Shadow Blades were also as sharp and precise.
These were not initiates but shadow blades.
For a member of the clan to successfully become a shadow blade, they must embody what it means to be an assassin.
Even if their race, physique, and abilities were not suitable for the assassin path, they would still act and think like assassins.
Simon and his classmates were still babies who still had a long way to go, and the first years who were watching the numerous battles in the simulation could see how good the shadow blades were.
In the current battle, they did not fight like soldiers.
They struck, withdrew, repositioned — again and again. They seemed to be testing for weaknesses that were barely there.
Across from them, the Bulwark demons stood firm.
At their center was a towering figure that was as large as the Bulwark demon Simon fought not too long ago. Its very presence was heavier than the rest of the Bulwark demons.
Surprisingly, this Bulwark demon was a female.
And just like the Veilmaster, she didn’t move much. She simply observed and gave out orders.
“Hold formation.”
Her voice was deep and steady, and it carried an authority that would make many to unquestionably listen to her.
The Bulwark demons shifted subtly and tightened their spacing. Gaps that had briefly appeared were immediately closed.
“Front line, advance one step.”
They moved as one.
The ground trembled faintly beneath their synchronized steps.
A shadow blade attempted to slip through the side, however, the nearest Bulwark turned instantly.
Clang!
Their weapons clashed three times, and the shadow blade retreated.
The Bulwark was about to chase.
“Do not chase.”
There was no urgency in her tone, and she calmly observed her enemies and her soldiers.
She was not like the other male Bulwark commanders who roared and rushed into battle without a plan.
She was the calm, patient, and calculating type.
She always looked for the best way to win her battles without the need for unnecessary sacrifices.
Because she was a woman, very few wanted to follow her. Her calm, patient, and calculating character also made it boring for many male Bulwarks and even female Bulwarks to follow her.
She valued the soldiers under her, so she always tried to find ways to ensure that very few of them lost their lives in any battle.
And most of the time, she always came back a victor and with many of her soldiers alive.
When comparing her statistics to other male captains, it was better. However, because she was a female, she was never given the full credit that she deserved.
’This squad of Shadowgraves have killed close to thirty Bulwarks. They are dangerous and they need to be exterminated.’
’If I can kill them all or whittle down their squad, then those disgusting men would have no choice but to bow to me and I’ll be able to have more soldiers under my command.’
The female Bulwark captain couldn’t wait to taste victory, and from what she could see, she would taste it as long as she and her soldiers were patient.
Unfortunately for her, a certain fiend was going to crush her dreams and aspirations in this simulation.
As the battle raged on, she suddenly frowned as she sensed a presence approach the battlefield from above.
However, it was not approaching her and the Bulwarks around her.
She looked to her right, then she saw a one-horned demon with white hair falling from what could be considered a great height.
’A Minor Fiend? And he’s a member of the Shadowgrave Clan?’
She frowned, then she looked at where this one-horned demon was going to land.
When she saw that he was going to land in a group of four Bulwarks, she could not help but furrow her brows.
Common sense told her that there was nothing for her to worry about, but her cautious nature told her that something was about to happen.
No member of the Shadowgrave Clan would ever choose to jump into a group of four Bulwarks, especially when the Bulwarks were all higher ranked.
Out of precaution, she gave out an order.
“Squad 3. Above you. Kill it. Now.”
The four Bulwarks looked up, and when they saw Simon falling toward them, they were taken aback and extremely confused.
One of them picked up a stone the size of a human’s head from the floor, then he threw it at Simon.
Simon saw this, and with a calm expression, he spun in the air, completely dodging the stone.
“What are you guys doing?! I said kill him!”
The female captain roared in anger.
What were these fools doing?!
When did they start believing that a rock could easily kill a member of the Shadowgrave Clan?!
However, it was too late.
Just as one of them was about to use his chaos, a massive shadow appeared beneath him and his comrades.
No
Massive shadows!
Everybody, including the shadow blades and veilmaster looked in Simon’s direction, and their eyes could not help but widen in disbelief.
Above the four Bulwark demons was a pile of debris and a partially destroyed building.
And these two things were falling straight for the Bulwark demons, and behind the debris and building was a smiling Simon.
BOOOOOOOOOOM!!!
The four Bulwark demons were crushed by the debris and building.
