The Broken Halo - Chapter 352: Locating A Leader

Chapter 352: 352: Locating A Leader
Simon had to act like an assassin to safely reach the northern tower.
He had to hide behind walls, hide in partially ruined buildings, look for dark spaces to move, and also avoid any Bulwark demon since they would just waste his time.
One thing Simon realized was that there were very few shadows in the stronghold where assassins could hide.
Usually, in a city like this, shadows would be everywhere and the assassins of the Shadowgrave Clan would be able to hide in the shadows and kill their enemies before they even knew it.
However, Simon came to realize that places that should normally have shadows, would be absent of shadows.
Some places had unknown sources of light, preventing the formation of shadow, and some places with a shadow or shadows were just too exposed.
Some were even engulfed with flames, but these flames did not spread and burn even with the chaos happening all around.
Simon was intrigued and also confused about all of these, but he decided to push them to the back of his mind.
He had not even been taught how to perfectly hide in shadows by the academy yet, so why bother himself with this.
And this was where Hollow Sky Eye helped in situations like this.
He couldn’t see through buildings, but once in a while, he would search for a high building or structure where he could hide and observe his surroundings and the path he wanted to take.
Sometimes, a Bulwark demon would nearly cross his path, but Simon would quickly use the illusion ability of Hollow Sky Eye to make the Bulwark demon to subconsciously ignore him.
Whenever this scenario occurred, he did not make it so obvious like what he did for the third Bulwark demon he killed.
In the eyes of those watching, it just looked like Simon was lucky everytime a Bulwark demon walked past his hiding spot.
He could have decided to use his Hollow Sky Eye to easily walk all the way to the northern tower, but doing this would cause Instructor Amahi and his classmates to be extremely baffled and shocked.
It would lead to him having to answer many questions.
Though he had exposed the illusion ability of Hollow Sky Eye, it was not so shocking and mind blowing to the point that everybody would not forget about it.
He was certain that some had even forgotten about it already, and once he gives a believable lie, it would be a thing of the past until he uses it again in front of somebody.
And Simon was right.
Because many of his classmates were more fixated on the ’regeneration ability’ he showed more than an illusion ability they couldn’t even explain.
Some minutes later, Simon finally reached the northern tower, and what he could see was chaos.
Many buildings that were close to the northern tower had been flattened out and there were very few hiding spots for the members of the Shadowgrave Clan to hide and kill their enemies.
But even with that, he could see some members of the clan fighting some Bulwark demons face to face and they were not at a disadvantage at all.
’Maybe this is one of the reasons why the clan decided to have many different demon races join the clan instead of only the Velaris.’
’Against enemies like this, the Velaris would struggle a lot. But I can imagine how a demon like Akaza would not find it so difficult to kill a Bulwark demon.’
’It’s quite smart honestly.’
As he crouched on a hidden part of the roof of the building, he looked around and saw a scene that made him narrow his eyes slightly.
At a road intersection, he could see a group of clan members fighting against another group of Bulwark demons.
’About twenty demons in total.’
What caught his attention about this battle was the fact that it was not chaotic like many of the other battles.
There was a Veilmaster present in this, and he was giving out orders to the Shadow Blades around him.
’A Minor Greater Demon. He should be a captain or a lieutenant.’
Simon’s eyes flashed with a calculating glint, then he shifted his gaze to the Bulwark demons.
He also saw another Minor Greater Demon who was giving out orders to his comrades.
He shifted his gaze back to the Veilmaster.
’Now, should I just join the battle naturally? Or should I enter with style.’
Simon already knew the answer to this.
Joining the battle with style would involve him completely disrupting the balance of the battle by launching a sneaky attack.
This would make the leader to be more impressed and would also increase his chances of getting a mission from him.
Because of how realistic this simulation was, Simon was treating it like a real world.
There’s no way a leader in his right senses would choose to give an important mission or task to an Initiate of the clan and a mere Fiend at that.
At best, he would be told to survive and join his unit as they fought. But if he showed his value and power, he would be entrusted with an important mission.
’Joining the battle naturally would take more time, so I’ll join with style. And if I’m wrong about having to show my value to get an important mission, then it is what it is.’
’But the problem now is how to enter with style. Killing a Bulwark demon is not easy for me since I don’t have a weapon.’
The gears in Simon’s mind spun, then he looked around, hoping to find something he could use or something that could give him inspiration.
However, all he found were rubbles, metals, and corpses.
’Would I have to kill a Bulwark demon like I’ve been doing. It might work for the first and maybe second Bulwark in this battle, but the third and fourth would not be stupid enough to allow me to attack their eyes.’
’Unless I decide to use Hollow Sky Eye throughout.’
The frown on his face increased, but he suddenly blinked twice, then he tilted his head slightly as he looked at a pile of rubbles.
’This… might work.’
