The Broken Halo - Chapter 355: Infiltrate The Tower

Chapter 355: 355: Infiltrate The Tower
“Our mission is to destroy the cores of the formations and arrays in that tower. And if we can, we’re to also kill every Formation and Array Master of the Bulwark clan.”
Simon raised a brow when he heard this, and he looked at the northern tower.
“Destroying the cores of the formations and arrays in the tower would not be an easy task.” He said with lightly furrowed brows as he observed the tower.
From here, he could see a dense concentration of Bulwark demons protecting the tower, and now that he was extremely close to the tower, he was beginning to realize that the number of defenses around this tower was actually far more than he expected.
From what he could see, it might even be more than what he saw in the eastern gate.
’Did I make a mistake coming here? This tower seems to be extremely important to the Bulwark demons.’
’Arrays and formations… wait… could it be?’
His eyes flashed, then he looked at the captain who did not respond to his words on how it would not be easy to destroy formations and arrays of the tower.
“Are the formations and arrays meant for the northern tower and walls alone? Or are they meant for something else?”
The captain’s eyes flickered with slight surprise, then he pointed at a particular spot.
It was a ruined building, but the moment Simon saw the building, he realized what the captain was trying to tell him.
“Do you notice anything odd about that building?”
Simon nodded slowly and slightly. “It has no shadows.”
“Good.” The captain slowly lowered his hand.
He then looked at the northern tower.
“That tower is the source of the formations and arrays that have been plaguing us in this war.”
“They have an array that can cause light or flames that don’t burn to appear in places that are not meant to appear. It’s a very strange array or formation, and we have to destroy it because it prevents the clan from being able to deploy its main force.”
At the mention of non-burning flames, Simon immediately recalled all the strange fires and places he saw on his way here.
Now he understood.
’So it was a formation or an array… but what array or formation can do such a thing? Demons cannot control the light element. Or is it a an array that absorbs shadows?’
’How does it work?’
Simon was extremely curious about this formation/array, and he could not help but ask about it.
“Shouldn’t there be arrays and formations all over the stronghold then? I’ve never seen one.”
The captain shook his head. “We’re also baffled by this. It’s an extremely strange formation or array, and we’ve come to believe that the Bulwarks have most likely gotten some help from the humans.”
“How pathetic.”
At the mention of the word, humans, Simon could not help but frown deeply.
’Humans working together with Bulwarks?’
Although this was just a simulation, and the captain never said that they had proof that the Bulwarks were working with humans, Simon knew that there was an element of truth to things like this.
’I wonder how bad the corruption and evil on Earth has become… What a shame.’ Simon released a soft sigh.
The captain observed Simon for a brief moment, then he spoke.
“Another very important reason why we have to destroy the formations and arrays in that tower is because of the southern tower.”
He pointed at the southern tower, and Simon looked at it with a slight furrow of his brows.
It was the tower that released red beams of light at completely random places.
However, Simon knew that these places were not random.
They were places where members of the Shadowgrave Clan were hiding or waiting in ambush, or were places where high profile clan members were located.
The red beam of light was like a signal that exposed their hiding spot or sites of ambush, and many clan members had died because of the red beam of light.
“The southern tower is their signal tower, and that red beam of light has exposed many of our fellow clan members, leading to their deaths.”
“We’ve come to realize that there are also hidden formations and arrays that can relay our locations to the southern tower.”
“If we can destroy the cores of all the formations and arrays in the northern tower, the southern tower would be flying blind and they won’t be able to expose our people anymore.”
Simon’s expression changed when he heard the words of the captain.
He turned his head and looked at the northern tower.
The upper part of the tower was partially destroyed, but he could see just how fierce the battles occuring directly in front of the tower were.
Fiends and Archfiends were dying like flies, and what made it worse was the fact that the Bulwark demons had the upper hand because many of them were on top of the tower.
They were constantly raining attacks on the shadow blades and Initiates.
He looked back at the captain.
“Do you have a way to enter the tower? I’m guessing you do, cause I’m sure it’s pretty obvious by now that we can’t exactly stroll inside.”
The captain for the first time chuckled softly.
“I like you. You’re bold and confident.”
Simon did not give a response.
“You’re right. We have found a way to get close to the tower, and if we don’t make mistakes, we can infiltrate the tower.”
“We were on our way to do that, but unluckily for us, we were unfortunate to encounter this bitch.”
He paused and looked at the corpse of the female Bulwark captain.
He moved closer to Simon, then he patted his shoulder.
“You did well interrupting the battle the way you did. You’ve helped us to win.”
Simon looked around, and just as the captain said, the shadow blades were winning.
After the death of their captain, the Bulwark demons became disorganized and the shadow blades took complete advantage of that.
’Well, if he wanted, he could kill all of them easily. I guess he’s saving his demonic energy.’
Simon looked at the captain, then he looked at the partially ruined and burning northern tower.
’I guess I’m going to infiltrate a tower… How nice.’
