The Broken Halo - Chapter 356: Reaching The Top

Chapter 356: 356: Reaching The Top
Just like Simon said, they couldn’t exactly infiltrate the northern tower from the front. They needed a different way in, and the captain had a different path they could take into the tower.
And this path… completely surprised Simon.
The squad now had a total of eleven assassins, including him and the captain.
Aside from the captain who was a Minor Greater Demon and Simon who was a Minor Fiend, the other shadow blades were Superior Archfiends.
All of them.
However, even with this line up, none of them were confident in this mission because it was a dangerous mission.
Simon also knew how dangerous this mission was because he could sense the aura of more than one Greater Demons in the northern tower.
Now, he wasn’t sure if all the auras he could perceive were that of Bulwark demons or a mixture of Bulwark demons and a clan member, but it still spelled danger for him.
Because of this danger, Simon went and stockpiled more rubbles and another partially destroyed building in his spatial ring.
The captain and the members of the squad were surprised when they saw this.
Though, they had already guessed that Simon had unleashed the rubble and building from his spatial ring, it was still strange seeing somebody sending large pieces of stones, metals, and a freaking building into their spatial ring.
Those watching outside the simulation also had strange expressions because it was their first time seeing somebody use a pile of rubbles and a destroyed building as their weapon.
Couldn’t Simon just use a weapon?
Must he be so fixated on the fist path?
Only if they knew that Simon wanted to use a sword…
No
… Any weapon more than any of them.
After storing just enough rubbles to the point where questions would not be asked about how large the space in his spatial ring was, he followed the captain and the squad to where they were to infiltrate from.
And the location surprised Simon.
The northern wall.
Or to be more specific, a specific destroyed part of the northern wall.
The top of the northern tower was not the only structure that was damaged, some sections of the walls were also damaged.
The captain’s plan was simple.
They would sneak out of the Bastion through one of the holes in the wall, then climb the wall, reach the top of the walls, then enter the tower.
This was easier said than done, and anything could go wrong during this infiltration.
Because of the earlier attacks of the clan on the tower, there were numerous holes in the walls.
However, the Bulwark clan were a clan that could control the earth and metal element, so they quickly patched up the holes that were close to the northern tower.
Because of this, their target was a hole in the wall that was a little bit far from the tower.
On their way to the destination, they made sure to avoid all the Bulwarks that were in their path.
A member of the squad had a rather good scouting ability that was not related to shadows, so he was the one directing the entire squad.
Simon could also be a scout because of Shadow Sense, but compared to the scouting ability of the scout of the squad, he was lacking.
The scout could sense vibrations through the ground, and through the vibrations which only he could decipher, he knew when a Bulwark demon was nearby.
Fortunately for them, one of their biggest worries did not happen.
The southern tower signal.
They were very worried that the southern tower would signal to the Bulwarks of the northern tower and exposed their locations.
However, it seemed that because their destination was a bit off and far away from the northern tower, they were not seen as a target or a threat.
The squad eventually reached the hole, but they encountered a group of Bulwarks in the vicinity of the holes.
The group had just three Bulwarks, and Simon and the squad had no idea why these Bulwarks were there.
However, they didn’t care.
They outnumbered the group of Bulwarks, and the end result of the clash was as expected.
It was swift, and the Bulwarks breathed their last before they could even unleash a single attack.
After killing this group of Bulwarks, they entered the hole and went outside the bastion.
The Varkhess Bastion was built on a hill of jagged black rocks, and Simon looked around for a few seconds before looking down.
He could hear the sound of water below him, and when he looked down, he saw a sea. However, this sea was neither blue nor transparent, it was black.
It was a black sea.
’That’s surprising.’
He looked ahead, but he saw nothing else aside from the roaring waves of the sea.
“Hey, kid. Quit wasting our time and come here.”
One of the shadow blades called out to him, and Simon took one last glance at the black sea, then he turned and approached the squad.
“You know how to climb?” The captain asked.
Simon nodded.
“Good.” The captain nodded slightly, then he looked at the rest of the squad.
“Let’s go.” He said.
Simon nodded, then he started running on the wall.
While he was running on it, he realized just how thoughtful the Shadowgrave Clan were.
How many academies would have a course on how to effectively climb a wall or run on a wall?
It did not take long for Simon and the rest to reach the top of the wall.
Though, there were times where some of them nearly fell because a stone slipped out from the wall or because of an impact on the wall from the inside.
Even though they were outside the bastion, some attacks from the inside landed on the wall, and if not for how thick and sturdy it was, the wall would have crumbled.
However, despite all of these, Simon, the captain, and the rest of the squad finally reached the top of the wall unharmed.
