The Broken Halo - Chapter 358: He Ran

Chapter 358: 358: He Ran
When Simon and the shadow blades of the squad were running to the top of the northern wall, the captain told them the plan he had to ensure that the mission was a success.
From earlier scouting missions carried out by the clan, he already knew that there were two Greater Demons on the northern wall.
For the mission to be a success, the clan had provided a one-time use artifact- the arrow- that could kill one of the Greater Demons.
The captain’s plan was for Simon and the shadow blades to gather the Bulwarks together so that the arrow could kill more Bulwarks when it struck one of the Bulwark demons.
As Simon and the shadow blades appeared on the top of the wall once again, it was clear that the clan members were at an advantage and that the odds were now in the favour of the clan.
Over thirty of the Bulwarks on the wall were dead, and some of those that were still alive were injured.
Before, Simon and the squad were outnumbered, but now, they were on a level playing field.
The destruction of a single explosive arrow nearly split this section of the wall in two.
Large cracks could be seen on the ground along with debris and corpses in weird positions.
“Damned assassin scums.”
The Bulwark captain growled in anger as he glared at Captain Heavy Sniper, Simon, and the shadow blades.
The Bulwarks really hated assassins, and they hated the Shadowgrave Clan the most because they embodied what it truly meant to be an assassin.
“Kill.”
This was all Captain Heavy Sniper said before his figure blurred and he appeared in front of the Bulwark captain.
His speed was extraordinarily fast even amongst Minor Greater Demons, and the Bulwark captain could barely react as a bow hit his face, forcing him to take two steps to the back.
Captain Heavy Sniper’s hand blurred, and a dark brown arrow made out of his demonic energy materialized in thin air.
In a fraction of a second, he fired the arrow.
Whoosh!
The ground trembled as the arrow moved, and it seemed to carry a weight that put pressure on everything around it.
This was not gravity.
No
The arrow was just heavy.
The Bulwark captain quickly protected his chest with his arms, but he didn’t stop there.
Rocks covered his arms, adding an extra layer of protection to them.
Fortunately for him, he made the right decision.
BANG!
Despite how small the arrow was, the sound of its impact on the Bulwark was like two trailers crashing into one another.
The Bulwark captain was forced to take a step backward.
Captain Heavy Sniper did not slow down his momentum at all.
Just as the Bulwark captain lowered his arms, the captain appeared behind him, then he swung his demonic energy enhanced bow at the Bulwark’s head.
BAM!
The Bulwark growled in anger and frustration as he was forced to take about five steps to the back.
The captain appeared behind the Bulwark again, then he fired another arrow made out of demonic energy at the Bulwark’s right leg.
The Bulwark captain believed that Captain Heavy Sniper would go for the kill, so he created a layer of earth around his head and upper body.
Unfortunately for him, he believed wrong.
Puchi!
The arrow pierced the right leg of the Bulwark captain.
As this battle was going on, Simon and the rest of the shadow blades were having their own battle.
Simon was mainly dodging the attacks that were thrown at him and was trying not to overexert himself.
From time to time, he would glance at the battle between Captain Heavy Sniper and the Bulwark captain.
That was the crucial battle, and if Captain Heavy Sniper lost, then they were going to fail this mission.
’The captain is good. He’s minimizing his usage of demonic energy to the best of his ability because we’re still going to face enemies inside the tower.’
’There might even be a Greater Demon inside the tower, so he needs to conserve his demonic energy.’
’And unlike the Bulwark captain who is just fighting wildly, the captain is fighting with a clear strategy. He’s the one leading the fight, and unless something unexpected happens, the Bulwark would die.’
’Veilmasters are a step above shadow blades for a reason.’
Simon thought as he calmly dodged a giant sword that nearly cut off his arm.
“Stay in one place, cat!” The Bulwark growled, and Simon was about to respond.
However, his expression suddenly changed to one of confusion.
He distanced himself from the three Bulwarks that were attacking him, then he looked around with a deep frown.
’Did I sense wrong?’
The moment he had this thought, he looked at his feet, and he saw that it was trembling.
This was normal considering the attacks that were been thrown all around.
However, Simon knew that this was different.
’This aura…’ His frown deepened. ’It’s coming from below?’
His instincts were sending warning signals to him and he could also perceive a dangerous aura coming at a fast pace to the top of the wall.
However, he couldn’t perceive it clearly.
The waves in his sea of consciousness churned as he prepared for the worst.
He ran to the edge of the wall, completely ignoring the Bulwarks, then he looked down.
He was hoping to see if he could find the source of this threat, but he found nothing.
He could only see the battle taking place below the wall.
“Why-”
Bang
Before he could complete his sentence, the wall suddenly trembled and Simon’s head snapped to his right.
“Let go you fucking bastard!”
He saw as one of the squad members shouted in anger and also fear as a large hand held his ankle from the ground.
Where did this hand come from?
Many wondered.
However, the moment Simon sensed the aura around this hand, his pupils constricted and he did something he rarely did.
He ran.
