The Broken Halo - Chapter 360: Only If He Knew

Chapter 360: 360: Only If He Knew
Simon could not believe how unlucky he was in this situation.
He had always been unlucky ever since he reincarnated in the demon world, this he knew. However, this was just different.
What were the odds that the southern tower would expose him as he was running on the northern wall.
He was just a Fiend, and the threat he posed should not be comparable to that of the shadow blades and veilmasters.
So, why was he made a target and exposed?
Well, Simon actually understood why.
When Simon ran and escaped for his life after the appearance of the Bulwark, he did not choose to escape far away.
No.
He found this as an opportunity to enter the tower and complete the mission.
In this situation, Simon knew that he was being greedy, and in a way, foolish.
However, Simon was not doing this for only a thousand low grade hell stones anymore.
He was interested in the formation of the Bulwarks that prevented shadows from being formed in various parts of the stronghold.
This was a formation that could be helpful to him in the future when he was strong enough to escape or destroy the clan.
He would also not be surprised if one of the reasons why the Shadowgrave Clan attacked the Bulwark Clan was because of this formation/array.
He obviously wanted the thousand low grade hell stones, but his main aim was the formation/array that restricted the Shadowgrave Clan.
In this situation, he doubted he would be able to accomplish the mission since he had been exposed.
However, he would do what he could.
Since he could not die a true death in this simulation and since he could heal himself very quickly, he knew that his odds of survival were not so low.
However, he still could not believe how his luck was bad in this situation.
As his figure was illuminated by the red beam of light, all eyes were on him.
The battle at the top of the wall had already drawn the attention of the clan members and the bulwarks at the same time.
The battle at the bottom of the wall paused as everybody was looking at the top of the northern wall.
Some had to dodge and escape for their lives because of falling debris from above or corpses.
However, they could all see Simon… running toward the northern tower.
Some bulwarks tried to stop him, but they were blocked and stopped by a clan member or clan members.
The battle continued in earnest, but it did not get worse since everybody began to realize that Simon was just a Fiend.
The clan members had hope earlier, believing that Simon was maybe one of their talented and powerful Archfiends or maybe even a Greater Demon who was hiding and decided to join the battlefield.
But to their disappointment, he was just a Fiend and an Initiate.
What could he possibly do or accomplish?
Majority of the bulwarks too were not bothered about Simon after sensing that he was just a Fiend.
However, some cautious and knowledgeable ones still tried to kill him since they knew that whenever their southern tower marked a target, it meant he was dangerous.
Why he was dangerous… they had no idea.
Fortunately for Simon, the shadow blades and veilmasters prevented these bulwarks from attacking Simon.
But unfortunately for Simon, there was a particular half-step Demon Lord that was left unchecked.
The bulwark that was at the top of the wall was one of the commanders of the Bulwark clan, and when he saw the red beam of light landing on Simon, he narrowed his eyes in slight confusion.
He could not help but look at the southern tower in the distance, then he looked back at Simon.
Because he was a commander, he knew that whatever or whoever the southern tower makes a target means that demon or thing should be given high priority.
The bulwark commander had no idea why Simon was made a high priority target, but he decided to act.
“I guess I’ll go through your corpse and see what makes you so special.”
He clenched his fist, expecting what happened to the shadow blades he killed earlier to happen to Simon.
However, nothing of such happened.
An earth spike shot out from beneath Simon just as he was about to take a step forward.
The earth spike should have impaled Simon from his crotch right up to his head, but it didn’t.
Simon quickly moved to the side, and he stumbled and fell in the process because of how sudden his movement was.
His body rolled down wildly on the wall, and it looked like Simon was going to tumble to his death.
But a few seconds later, he got to his feet and continued running.
The bulwark commander frowned deeply when he saw this, then he clenched his fist again.
Another earth spike shot out from below Simon, attempting to impale him, but Simon dodged it for the second time.
He stumbled, but he didn’t fall and roll. He maintained his balance very quickly and continued running.
The third earth spike shot out from the wall, and Simon dodged it again.
This time around, he dodged it very fluidly and did not stumble even once.
When the bulwark commander saw this, he realized that this was not a fluke from Simon.
’It’s either he has an affinity for the earth element, he has a skill that allows him to sense danger ahead of time, or his reflexes are just highly absurd and abnormal for a Fiend.’ The bulwark commander thought with a deep frown.
Based on this alone, he realized that Simon might be weak compared to him, he was definitely a talent of the Shadowgrave Clan.
And not just any talent.
He was most likely one of their top tier talents.
’Killing one of their top talents would surely piss these bastards off. It’d be nice to see their reaction.’
His eyes flashed with a cruel light, then he cranked his neck to the sides, causing cracking sounds to resound in the air.
He was ready to put in more effort so as to kill Simon.
Only if he knew that Simon was a slave.
