The Broken Halo - Chapter 370: So Weak?

Chapter 370: 370: So Weak?
The number of demons who came to see what the commotion was all about kept on increasing.
The news spread, and even some initiates that were outside the academy decided to enter the academy and have a look at what was going on.
Some minutes later, it began to look like every single member of the academy came to look at the nine Initiates.
Even the Instructors were curious about this and decided to have a look.
Unfortunately for the nine Initiates, none of their friends or comrades in their respective gangs came out to help them.
In this situation, they knew that anybody that tries to help the nine Initiates would also become a laughingstock one way or the other.
They were all demons and this was the demon realm.
Sympathy was foreign in this realm, and a demon would 99.99999% of the time choose themselves over their friends.
Eventually, a female instructor decided to bring down the unfortunate Initiates.
One of the reasons why she did this was not because she felt pity.
No.
It’s because if the Initiates were left that way for too long, they would begin to die because they were upside down.
After the Instructor brought them down, she clothed them and called some initiates who worked in the clinic of the academy.
They took them to the clinic so that they can be treated.
The crowd began to disperse when they saw this, and Simon was about to walk away but a hand held his shoulder and he paused.
“We need to talk.”
He turned and saw Instructor Valdin behind him.
Simon stared at him for a moment, then he spoke.
“What about my class?”
Instructor Valdin was taken aback since he had not thought about that, and he did not expect that Simon was actually the type to be bothered about his class.
Simon gave off the air that he couldn’t be bothered about anything other than himself.
“Don’t worry about it. I’ll tell the instructor to not find your trouble for being late to the class.”
Simon narrowed his eyes, then he shook his head.
“It’s an important class, a compulsory course to be exact. Don’t forget it’s on politics, and you were stressing on its importance earlier.”
“I can’t miss it.”
Instructor Valdin’s lips could not help but twitch because he was beginning to get annoyed with Simon.
To his surprise, Simon attempted to walk away.
He increased his grip on Simon’s shoulder, forcing Simon to remain in one place.
“Where do you think you’re going?”
Simon calmly turned and looked at the instructor.
“If you want me to follow you, you’ll have to give me a note written in your name that I can skip the class and that the contents of the class should be recorded.”
“Like you said earlier, it’s an important class.”
Instructor Valdin’s lips twitched, then he let go of Simon.
“Fine. Let’s go.”
Simon nodded, then both of them went to Instructor Valdin’s office.
Simon sat on the chair opposite Instructor Valdin, and he calmly looked at Instructor Valdin.
There was a tense silence between them before Simon broke it.
“The note.”
If Simon could see Instructor Valdin’s face, he would see that a vein popped in his temple when he asked for a handwritten note.
Instructor Valdin wanted to say many things, but he decided not to.
He brought out a brown sheet of paper and began to write with his index finger.
His finger glowed with demonic energy, and in less than three seconds, he was done.
All Simon saw was a blur as the Instructor used a single finger to write on the paper.
Instructor Valdin waved his two fingers and the paper flew toward Simon.
Simon caught it and read it.
’Instead of just using his name, his demonic energy is more like his signature, so it’s unique and cannot be easily forged.’
He nodded with satisfaction and stored it in his spatial ring.
’This might come in handy later on.’
He smiled at Instructor Valdin, acting like he was now ready to talk.
“What do you want to discuss with me, Instructor Valdin?”
’How I wish I was not an instructor.’
Instructor Valdin was beginning understand just how infuriating Simon could be sometimes, and he could understand why some of his classmates have come complaining to him about Simon.
He released a deep sigh so as to calm down, then he spoke.
“You are the one that did that back there, right?”
Simon nodded and did not try to deny it.
There was no point denying it since the truth would be known eventually. Besides, he didn’t want the fact that he did it to be hidden.
It was better for his plans like this.
Instructor Valdin looked at Simon with a contemplative expression since he half expected Simon to deny it.
“Do you know the consequences of what you’ve done?”
Simon tilted his head slightly and gave Instructor Valdin a strange look.
“I doubt I broke the laws, Instructors. They killed three of ours, and I only punished nine of theirs.”
He shrugged nonchalantly.
“To me, this is not enough for revenge because a life is priceless and mere shame and disgrace cannot compensate for the loss of a life.”
Instructor Valdin remained silent for a moment, then he nodded.
“You’re right. A life is priceless, but I’m not talking about you breaking the law, Broken Halo. I’m talking about the people you’ve offended.”
Simon immediately gave the most nonchalant chuckle one could ever give.
“They’re cowards with fragile little egos in my opinion. All I did was teach their underlings some manners. If they want to take revenge for this, then so be it.”
“Besides, they were the first ones to break the law. They killed not one, not two, but three Initiates.”
“Are the lives of Initiates actually worthless in the eyes of the clan? Or is it only the truly talented the clan values?”
“Are the rules of the clan so weak that it can be broken so easily by a bunch of students and instructors?”
