The Broken Halo - Chapter 387: The Mad Scientist

Chapter 387: 387: The Mad Scientist
“Eternal Mind Maze.”
Simon was instantly intrigued by the name of the technique.
He took the book, then he began to go through it.
The more he flipped through the pages of the book, the brighter his gaze became, and the more amazed he became.
About seven minutes later, he stopped going through the book and he closed it.
He closed his eyes and began to recall and ponder on everything he just read.
The Eternal Mind Maze was an offensive mental technique that could be easily defined.
It was a technique that placed the mind of an enemy in a maze.
At a glance, this technique sounded awesome and amazing, and it actually was, but it was not… as efficient and effective as one might think.
To put somebody’s mind in a maze was not an easy thing to do, and it’s also very confusing and baffling if one thought about it.
When Simon went through the book, he had several questions like…
How do I create a mind maze in the mind of my enemy?
How do I create a mind maze in the mind of my enemy during a fight?
How does it affect the mind of my enemy?
How does it work?
The name of the mental technique intrigued Simon, but for somebody like him who had lots of experience, he could think of several possible problems of this technique.
The first is the sea of consciousness.
The sea of consciousness was literally a sea or a body of water to be more precise. How could one put a sea inside a maze or how could a maze affect the sea?
This was Simon’s biggest question, and even if the maze could affect one’s sea of consciousness, how was he to create a maze in the sea of consciousness of his enemy?
He could not think of solutions to these questions, but the book had the answers to some of his questions.
’I was wrong. I’m not to create a maze in the mind of my enemy, I’m to first create a maze in my own mind, then transfer the maze into the mind of the enemy.’
’The way this works is ingenious, and the way it affects the target’s sea of consciousness is even more ingenious.’
’I first thought that this technique had the ability to put one into an eternal slumber because of its name, but it doesn’t do that.’
’What it does is to weaken and confuse the mind of the target, and… I believe that I can actually evolve this technique into something that can put one into an eternal slumber if the person is not able escape the maze at all.’
The more Simon pondered on this technique, the more changes he was making to the technique in his mind.
He had not gone through the technique properly, but the little he had read was giving him lots of ideas on how he could improve it.
’But this is not an attack that can be used repeatedly. It has to be prepared beforehand, and it’s more or less a trump card… Though, I might be able to make it easier to use so that it won’t just be a trump card.’
There was another question that was in Simon’s mind as he pondered on this technique.
’But why is it ranked as an intermediate technique? Is it because of the high requirements?’
The Eternal Mind Maze had very high requirements, and if he was to guess, it was why the clan ranked it as an intermediate technique.
’To create the maze in one’s mind, one would need a vast amount of mental energy. Not only that, one would need to have the ability to be extremely focused and one would also need to be creative and intelligent enough to create a maze that’s actually not so simple’
’The maze has to be as complex as possible and it also has to be extremely sturdy. And the more complex it is, the more mental energy would be needed.’
’The size of the maze also matters.’
He opened his eyes, then he furrowed his brows slightly.
’I guess they made it an intermediate technique because of how inefficient the technique is despite its difficulty. But, it still feels highly irresponsible of them to put it as an intermediate technique when it should be an advanced technique at the very least.’
He shrugged nonchalantly.
’Oh well. It’s good for me though. I’ll take it. It’s a lot better than some of the mental techniques I’ve seen.’
He was about to continue searching for more techniques, but he looked to his right when he sensed a presence through Shadow Sense.
He frowned, then he saw an initiate walk toward the bookshelf and he began going through the mental techniques on the shelf.
The distance between the two of them was not too close and not too far away, but Simon knew that this initiate was here to watch and observe him.
He was not here for any mental technique.
’Is he here to see the books I picked? They want to know what techniques I’m learning?’
Simon sneered, and a second later, the Initiate took a glance at him.
When he saw that Simon was looking at him with an indifferent gaze, he was taken aback, then he nodded at Simon.
Simon did not respond, but his eyes flashed, and the broken black ring around his pupils rotated slowly.
The air between both of them was uncomfortable, but Simon indifferently looked away, causing the Initiate to scratch his head in confusion.
Simon was no longer bothered by the initiate because from now on, the Initiate would be seeing an illusion.
It was just a minor illusion though.
In the real world, he was still holding the books containing the Eternal Mind Maze technique, the mental spear technique, and the mental wave technique.
But in the mind and eyes of the Initiate, he was only holding the two basic offensive mental techniques.
He returned the Eternal Mind Maze back to the shelf.
’From now on, you’ll only be seeing picking up a book, go through it for some minutes, then return it. You’ll never see the books I pick.’
His eyes flashed with a cold light, then he took a glance at the book of the Eternal Mind Maze technique.
’I wonder who the author is. He’s a genius for thinking of this.’
He opened the book and searched for the author’s name, but when he did, his expression became strange.
’The Mad Scientist?’ He thought with raised brows.
