The Broken Halo - Chapter 392: An Emergency

Chapter 392: 392: An Emergency
Simon finally understood why the Mad Scientist chose to spread his techniques and not keep it to himself or keep them for somebody he seemed worthy.
A Scientist would definitely love it if their creation or creations was used by a lot of people.
’But I wonder if that’s the whole truth. I’ve never met the Mad Scientist before, but I’m fairly certain that there’s a deeper reason as to why he’s spreading his techniques… And I might be wrong.’
After having this thought, he pondered briefly about The Mad Scientist and The Truth Seeker.
He had come to the library to pick up some mental techniques, but at the end of the day, he ended up learning about two very strange and interesting demons.
’Why do I have a feeling that I’ll encounter both of them at one point in my life.’
He shook his head slightly, then he decided to move on from these two demons.
He looked at Ari who was strangely still reminiscing about her previous boss and mentor- The Truth Seeker.
His expression became strange when he saw this, then he tapped the table.
Tap!
Tap!
Ari was forced out of her thoughts, then she looked at Simon with visible displeasure on her face.
“What is it?”
“How much is it to rent these four books?” He gestured at the four books and asked calmly.
Ari’s eyes widened slightly in confusion and disbelief.
“Despite everything I told you, you still want to rent the books of the Mad Scientist?”
Simon nodded.”Yes.”
Ari’s eyes flashed with a tinge of anger. “You son of a bitch.”
She looked at the book, gritted her teeth, then she looked back at Simon.
“I know what you’re doing.”
Simon raised a surprised and curious brow. “What?”
To his surprise, she started poking his chest angrily.
“You’re trying to find a way to stop my abilities from working on you. You started searching for mental techniques because of me. Because you’ve noticed what I’ve been doing.”
Simon’s lips could not help but twitch, and his eyes could not hide the disbelief and confusion that he had.
He held her finger, removed it from her chest, then he shook his head.
“The world does not revolve around you, Ari. And you’ve wasted my time. Kindly tell me how much it is to rent these four books and let me be on my way.”
Ari angrily removed her finger from his grasp, then she snorted.
“I’ve told you, the more you try to escape from me, the more I want you for myself.”
’Oh my goodness.’
Simon closed his eyes and placed his two fingers on them while releasing a tired sigh.
’This is exactly what I wanted to avoid. Should I just kill her?’
He released another frustrated sigh, then he spoke.
“Can you just tell me how much it is to rent these four books?”
Ari clicked her tongue, then she grabbed the books and started placing them on a corner of her desk.
Whenever she placed a book on that part of the desk, a formation would light up underneath the book and demonic scripts would appear.
She did this for the four books, then she told him how much the four books cost.
“One thousand eight hundred (1,800) merits, and since you’re a slave, that’s five thousand, four hundred (5,400) merits.”
Simon’s eyes widened in disbelief and confusion.
“How come? Why is it so expensive?”
Ari rolled her eyes. “Have you forgotten that you’re renting a book that’s actually meant to be on the lower floors? And mind you, the books on the lower floors are all in their thousands.”
Simon narrowed his eyes, then he looked at Ari with a suspicious look.
“Even if those two books contain the techniques of the Mad Scientist, should they be that expensive? They were ranked as intermediate techniques, and the ranking of the technique in a book greatly determines the price of the book.”
Ari scoffed and folded her arms.
“You should know that you’re lucky it’s even this cheap. I won’t be surprised if you would need to pay ten thousand merits to rent one of his books if it was placed in the right place.”
“You’re lucky the Truth Seeker made a mistake and made each of these books a mere eight hundred (800) merits.”
Simon’s lips could not help but twitch.
’A mere? How much is our weekly stipend?’
He shook his head, then he transferred the five thousand, four hundred (5,400) merits without bothering to give a response to Ari’s words.
Ari clicked her tongue when she saw this, but Simon did not care about her displeasure.
’I need more money. I have not even purchased books on chaos runes.’ Simon thought with a deep frown.
He took the books and made his way toward the exit of the library.
He had to find a place to learn and practice these four techniques.
Just as he was about to think of the best place to go, he suddenly remembered something and he stopped right in front of the door.
Two seconds later, he turned and looked at Ari.
Ari noticed his gaze, and she could not help but frown.
“What is it?”
Simon closed his eyes, and to Ari’s surprise, he turned and walked back to the door.
“Don’t worry about it.”
Ari blinked in utter confusion, but before she could ask any question, Simon left.
’I wanted to tell her not to tell anybody that I rented the books of the Mad Scientist since it could be my trump card, but there’s a very high chance that she’ll ask for something in return.’
’Money might have worked, but what she would definitely see this ass an opportunity to force me to have sex with her.’
’If I refused, she can threaten me and tell me that she’ll make it public or tell the factions that I rented the techniques of the Mad Scientist. And this would either force me to sleep with her or it would just make things more difficult for me.’
’And at the end of the day, the factions might not ask her to clarify what books I rented. And she might still tell the factions or somebody that I rented the books of the Mad Lord even if I sleep with her.’
’So, instead of me paying a price and still worry about her ratting me out, I’ll just assume the worst that the factions would find out that I have the techniques of the Mad Lord.’
He looked at the four books in his hand, then he sent them into his spatial ring.
A second after he did this, his Grave Mark began to vibrate.
He looked at it with a slight frown.
’Akaza?’
He sent his intent into the Grave Mark, and Akaza’s voice immediately entered his head.
“Broken Halo, where are you? There’s an emergency. Some members of the gang have been poisoned.”
