The Broken Halo - Chapter 391: The Truth Seeker

Chapter 391: 391: The Truth Seeker
Ari was actually confused as to why the techniques of the Mad Scientist were on the first floor of the library.
No matter how much she thought about it, the techniques should be on the lower floors.
Simon looked at her with a slight tilt of the head.
“But aren’t you the librarian by the way? Shouldn’t you know what books are in the library?”
Ari looked at Simon.
“I am, but now that I think about it, maybe it’s the previous librarian that placed the book there.”
Simon raised a brow.
“The previous librarian?”
Ari nodded. “I’m actually new here. I was the assistant of the previous librarian two years ago and I just became the official librarian last year.”
“So, I’m guessing that the previous librarian was the one that placed the books of that mad man on this floor.”
“Hmm.” Simon hummed, then he looked at the two techniques.
“But if you’ve been a librarian for a year or thereabout, you should have had enough time to know the books that are in the library. Shouldn’t you have stumbled across the techniques of the Mad Scientist at least once?”
Ari chuckled with a light smile.
“Well, the main reason I was made the librarian is to attract more students to come to the library. Besides, I go through the books in the library a few times, but my main focus are the books on the lower floor.”
“The books here are of little value, so I just focus on the books on the lower floor.”
Simon looked at the shelves behind him with slightly raised brows.
“Well, you might want to start going through the books on this floor since it’s obvious that there might be some important books here. The techniques of the Mad Scientist are proof of that.”
Ari immediately shook her head and refused.
“Absolutely not. Do you think I have the time to start going through all the books here? Compared to the lower floors which have fewer books, this floor has far too many books.”
Simon did not bother trying to convince her to do her job since it wasn’t his business and it did not bother him.
But he was curious about the previous librarian, so he decided to ask.
“You said that it’s possible that the previous librarian was the one responsible for the techniques of the Mad Scientist appearing on this floor of the library?”
Ari nodded. “Yeah. Most likely. She was very good at her job, and she’s the main reason why I don’t stress myself too much because she has put everything in place for my job to be easier.”
“So, I’m a little bit surprised that she made a mistake and placed the techniques of the Mad Scientist on the first floor.”
Ari looked down and mumbled with a light frown.
“She rarely makes a mistake.”
Simon tilted his head slightly and was even more curious about this librarian.
“Who is this librarian that you speak of? You seem to respect her a lot. Where is she? Is she still in the clan?”
Ari looked at Simon, and Simon could see just how much Ari respected this unknown librarian from her gaze.
“When she was here, her title was The Truth Seeker. She loved books, she loved reading, she loved knowledge, and she loved discovering new things.”
“She was the one that encouraged me to use my talent to help the clan gather information through espionage.”
“And she was the one that made me to develop some interest in reading and gaining knowledge. If not for her, I’d definitely be with at least three men right now.”
Simon’s lips twitched, and though he didn’t care, it still felt strange hearing such a thing considering the type of society he grew up in on earth.
He ignored her words, and asked another question about the librarian.
“What happened to her… to the Truth Seeker?”
Ari’s eyes was instantly filled with sadness, causing Simon to believe that the librarian was probably dead.
However…
“She left.”
… It was not what he expected.
His expression became slightly strange.
“She left?”
Ari nodded with the same expression.
“Yeah. Because she loves gaining knowledge so much, she can’t stand it when there’s no more knowledge for her to gain. According to her, there was no more knowledge for her to gain in the Shadowgrave Clan, so she quit her job as a librarian and went outside the clan to look for more knowledge.”
“I heard that some clan members and other demons have begun to call her The Wanderer because she’s always everywhere.”
Simon’s expression became even more strange.
“She was able to leave the clan?”
Ari quickly shook her head.
“Oh, no, no, no. I think she has a special agreement with the clan, so she can roam freely about. But whenever the clan is in need, she’ll come helping. That’s what she told me.”
Simon turned and looked at the library. His gaze moving from one shelf to the other.
’If Ari is right, then it would actually be strange for such an individual to make a mistake and place these two books on the first floor.’
’Unless she believes that these two techniques of the Mad Scientist deserve to be ranked intermediate techniques, or she intentionally placed them there for a reason, or she just made a mistake.’
Simon narrowed his eyes, then he looked back at Ari.
“How did the clan acquire the techniques of the Mad Scientist? Does he spread his techniques around? Or did the clan steal them from him?”
“The Mad Scientist spreads some of his techniques in completely random and different places. I believe that the clan took these techniques when they wiped out a minor clan. I’m not completely sure.”
Simon was a little bit confused.
“Why does the Mad Scientist spread his techniques?”
Ari shrugged. “Not sure. Cause he’s mad?… And oh yeah. I once heard some demons say that he spreads some of his techniques all around cause he wants his work to be known.”
“The desire of every scientist is to make their works and creations to be known and used by all, I guess.”
