The Broken Halo - Chapter 459: Teleportation Circle

“Are you guys really my teammates for the mission Instructor Valdin told me about?”
Everybody in the team looked at Simon as he said these words.
Noctis and Silith chuckled softly while the Wraithkin and Varkhul remained silent and indifferently looked away.
“You should be proud captain. Your ’funny’ joke has made us to look like a joke to this newbie.” Silith said with a tinge of mockery and amusement in her tone.
Noctis laughed softly, and even the Varkhul had his shoulders shake for a brief second before he controlled himself.
The captain trembled furiously in anger, and if looks could kill, Silith would have died a thousand times over.
Silith raised her hands in mock surrender, and Noctis had to do the same when he also received a death glare.
“Tch.”
The captain clicked her tongue in anger, then she looked at Simon whose expression was even more strange behind his mask.
She could literally see the bafflement in his eyes, and she knew that Simon’s first time impression of her and her teammates was definitely poor.
She clicked her tongue again while cursing Noctis and Silith in her mind.
“First of all, let me introduce myself.”
Simon raised a brow.
’Shouldn’t you have done that since?’
The captain cleared her throat, then she spoke.
“I am Captain Vexa.”
She gestured at herself, then she pointed at the big Varkhul.
“We call him Gorr.”
She then pointed at the Wraithkin.
“We call him Morrow. Both he and Gorr don’t talk much, so don’t be bothered that they haven’t said a single word since.”
Simon looked at the Varkhul and the Wraithkin, then he nodded slightly.
Vexa then pointed at the Shadeborn who had a creepy gentle voice.
“Just as you’ve heard, that creepy bastard with no sense of humour is called Noctis.”
She then pointed at the Serpentkin while giving her a death glare.
“And this bitch is called Silith. Just be mindful of her, her words are as venomous and sharp as her nature.”
Simon narrowed his eyes and tilted his head slightly with a baffled expression.
He had something to say, but he decided to leave it for now.
Captain Vexa shifted her gaze back to Simon.
“Our team is called the Grey Pact, and you’re going to be a temporary member of the Grey Pact.”
Simon blinked a few times, then he looked at each and every member of the Grey Pact before looking back at the captain.
“So, what is the mission? What am I meant to do? And when are we going?”
Vexa looked at Simon, then she smiled beneath her mask.
“Well, we need you to assassinate just one demon.”
Simon’s eyes flickered.
“Assassinate somebody? If you guys can’t assassinate a demon with your power level, then what makes you think I can?”
Vexa chuckled.
“I’ll explain on the way. Let’s the leave the clan first.”
Simon furrowed his brows slightly, then he nodded.
“Alright.”
Even if Vexa and the rest planned on attacking him the moment they left the clan, he would find a way to survive.
And honestly, he was looking forward to leaving the clan.
Staying inside the clan felt like he was staying inside a prison, and inside this prison were numerous ticking time bombs.
Though he had only spent a little bit over two months in the clan, it was truly stressful for Simon.
Leaving the clan would help him to get a breather or two… hopefully.
He was also curious as to how they were going to leave the clan.
He planned on memorizing the route they would take so that he would know how to escape the clan once he had no choice but to escape.
However, to Simon’s disappointment, the method they left the clan was by teleportation.
They went to a building that was protected and guarded by numerous Shadow Blades and Veilmasters.
The building was actually a tower with four floors, and it was called The Teleportation Tower.
The ground floor was meant for Initiates. The second floor was meant for Shadow Blades. The third floor was meant for Veil Masters, and the fourth floor was meant for the Grave Lords.
The ground floor and second floor had the highest number of teleportation circles, but these teleportation circles were small sized and could only take a maximum of ten Initiates.
Simon was a little bit surprised when he saw over twenty Initiates on the ground floor.
These Initiates were second years and third years, and he was the only first year in this building.
When the demons on the ground floor saw his first year robe, they were baffled and stunned, but none approached him or questioned him after seeing that he was not alone.
Though they were curious, it didn’t matter to them since Simon would be sent back and possibly punished if he was here without permission.
Vera met with one of the Shadow Blades who was in charge of a teleportation circle.
Through her grave mark, she showed their mission and after the Shadow Blade went through the demonic scripts that appeared in the air, he glanced at Simon before looking back at Vexa.
She handed him a sack containing some hell stones, then he weighed it a few times before keeping it in his spatial ring.
He gave her a nod, then Vera walked back to the team while giving a thumbs up.
When Simon saw that they were not taking a route or a road out of the clan but a teleportation circle, he decided to ask Vera where they were going.
However, her response was strange.
“Well… it’s a little bit complicated, but you’ll see.”
This made Simon even more suspicious, but he remained calm and observed everything.
They had to wait for their turn to use the teleportation circle Vexa paid for, and when it was their turn, they entered the teleportation circle.
Simon remained alert throughout but at the same time curious.
He wanted to know how it felt to use a teleportation circle made out of chaos runes and demonic energy.
He had used teleportation circles in the past, but those were made out of order runes and aether.
Before the Shadow Blade activated the teleportation circle, Simon tried to memorize the chaos runes that made up the teleportation circle.
Some seconds later, the teleportation circle glowed with a demonic red light and they vanished.
