The Devil CEO's Contract Wife - Chapter 291: A Talk With Adrian

Chapter 291: A Talk With Adrian
Mrs. Hill took off her glasses, eyes downcast for a while. “And you were right. Esme was pushed, but that still doesn’t—”
“I know, and rest assured, I have talked with her.”
Mrs. Hills nodded. “I’m still unable to reach Adrian’s mother; she seems occupied lately.”
“I’m sure she will come around.”
“I was hoping you could talk with him.”
“Why me?”
“I just feel he might need it… especially now his mother is elsewhere. You’re family, aren’t you? And it would also work to put down those ghastly rumors for good.”
Talk with Adrian. Not in a million did I picture this, but I do admit I saw this coming along the way. Also, the main reason I convinced Ares not to get him expelled.
“I’ll see what I can do…”
Mrs. Hill smiled. “That would be much appreciated. Thank you.”

Adrian took a sip from his milkshake, not pausing once since he grabbed a hold of that thing.
I moved my eyes to Esme, sitting with Scott, before I veered them back to Adrian.
“So! Enjoying your milkshake…?”
He finally set it aside, a bit nervous. “Yes.”
“That’s the sweetest thing you have ever said.”
He gave me a look.
“I was being sarcastic.”
“Can I get another milkshake?”
“Depends.”
“Depends on what…?”
“Why did you spread those rumors?”
He fixed me with a pointed look. “Because it’s the truth.”
“What is the truth exactly?”
“Mr. King is my father, and you stole him away from mother and me.”
“Is that what she told you?” I rested my arms against the table. “And you believed her.”
“She’s my mother…” he stated.
“Yes, she is… but telling things to hurt others isn’t right. Do you agree?”
He leveled his gaze and fell silent. He’s considering, at least that is something. It was better than just staring into my soul like he could rip it out.
“It hurts…” he murmured all of a sudden, pain gripping his voice.
“Hurts?” I asked softly.
He turned his head to Esme. “For years, he never glanced at me, but with her it’s different.” He looked back at me. “Why am I different? Does Mr. King hate me?”
“No…” I replied without hesitation because I knew deep in my heart that Ares didn’t hate Adrian; he had done nothing wrong to earn that.
“Really…?”
“Mr. King has always been a reserved person. He’s silent most of the time, and honestly, it took a while before he could express himself more. He weighs a lot on his shoulders… too much.
He’s a hard man who is all about business.”
Adrian seemed to be thinking through my words, and I continued anyway.
“He may be indifferent at all times, but he does feel more than we do. A lot actually..”
“You think so?”
“Yes, I know so…”
“I hugged him most of the time, but he didn’t return it. I thought he… he hated me or…”
“Trust me, Adrian, he doesn’t.”
A bright smile crossed his lips, brighter than the ones I have ever seen.
“Now, back to what we are talking about. Spreading those rumors.”
“They are the truth.”
“I’m not criticizing if it’s a truth or a lie.”
“I hurt Esme…”
“Yes, and she hurt you, too. The least both of you can do is apologize to each other.”
He nodded.
“Can I ask a question?”
“Sure…”
“Mr. King is my father, isn’t he?”
“Do you want the truth?”
“My mother tells the truth already, but I have only heard it from her and no one else… It makes me question it sometimes, even though I don’t want to. Granny, she…”
“She what?”
“Told me I’m the heir, but I don’t know why sometimes I…”
“You have doubts?”
He nodded. “Which is why I wanna hear it from you. You’re his wife and the closest person to him.”
“Yes, I am. But I don’t think you wanna hear it from me…”
He dipped his gaze.
I moved my eyes to the window where a car was parked. “That’s for you.”
“Can I… Can I come here with you guys tomorrow?”
His words drove a smile on my lips. “Sure! Only if it will be our little secret.”
He smiled.

I walked into the room, eyes taking in everything. My heels pressed into the broken glass, a satisfying feeling grasping my entire body.
Hearing a muffled sound, I turned to the man tied up against the chair, his mouth covered with a tape.
“And is this… Tyler Jackson?” I asked. “You’re famous in the underworld.”
Isaac removed the tape. “Be quick, I’m eager to dissect him.”
“Do you have any idea who I am?!” He yelled, but behind that outrage, he was trembling like a wet rat.
“Who are you exactly?” I asked, coming close.
“Trust me, Vixen, I don’t care who you are, but you don’t wanna mess with—”
“Agatha’s whore?” I asked, taking the pictures from the table. “She really holds you in such high regard if she’s willing to fuck you in luxury hotels.”
I showed him the pictures, and his eyes widened. There were shots taken within the room when they were in the middle of their disgusting activity, but the twist was that it wasn’t him.
He looked heartbroken, seeing his supposed lover with another man and many others.
“The best way to secure more power. She’s not ashamed to use her body…” I walked back to the table to drop the pictures. “In fact, her body is her weapon. A method she uses for people like you. You all have histories in Midnight, and your connections are deeply rooted; that’s how she has been able to maintain power.”
I faced Tyler, and he looked so miserable right now. She has been with him for years, even when Elias was still alive. The poor dude thought he was gonna stand by her side after her son claimed everything.
“You’re the last…”
His bloodshot eyes connected with mine just as I gathered all the pictures and tossed them into the fireplace to burn.
“He’s all yours, Isaac.”
