The Devil CEO's Contract Wife - Chapter 294: Close Encounter [2]

Chapter 294: Close Encounter [2]
I weighed heavily on her because for a second there she moved, just enough to catch the brighter light, but she suddenly came to a stop, her black heels coming into view.
My patience ran thin; I walked, not slow, but enough to tell that desperation clung to my movement. The last thing I wanna give away, but I think we have both passed that point where nothing else matters except colliding.
Vixen backed away into the darkness as if she wanted it to swallow her up, but there was one thing she didn’t know about me, no matter how she claimed to do.
I work well in the darkness.
The lights had ceased their flicker, and what was left was to navigate through. She wore a very thick perfume that was enough to obstruct my nose, so I followed it as well as her heel against the floor as she tried to get away.
I stretched my hand out, predicting a hold on her arm, but what I felt was only a brush, my fingertips grazing her back, and then nothing.
The lights came back on, and I found out I’m alone.
I ground my teeth when I caught the door she had escaped through.
No one, and I mean no one, could have known there was a door there.
“Don King!”
I turned to Carlo.
“Where did you go? The main event is about to begin.”
I inhaled sharply as I moved, and I didn’t halt my steps until I grabbed him by the collar.
“D-Don…”
“Vixen…” That was the only word I uttered, and it was enough to pull a reaction out of him.
He swallowed a ball of saliva.
“Talk.”
“She donated! In your name…”
“Did she?”
“Y-Yes!”
I released him, and he stumbled backwards and almost dropped on the floor if his men hadn’t held him.
“She monitored the project too…”
“Excuse me?”
“It was all in your favor. Wasn’t it in your favor?”
At this point, none of them had the faintest idea that Vixen was a mystery… to me, too.

“Adrian and I are friends now…” Esme said, handing me the egg. “We spent a lot of time together at school and at the cafe. He loves chocolate too.”
I cracked the egg open and poured it into a bowl.
“What are you two up to?” Catherine said, coming to us.
“Making breakfast!” Esme replied. “Daddy said he needed my help.”
“Is that so…?” I felt her hand on my back, and I leaned down for her to kiss me on the cheek. “Morning, honey.”
“And you, little lady, are you forgetting something?”
Esme gasped, and Catherine helped her down the counter.
“Now off you go and make sure you finish up.”
“Aww…” Esme pouted.
“What’s wrong?” Catherine asked me the moment Esme was gone. “You are quieter, and that means something is up.”
“Esme is talking with Adrian,” I replied, even though that wasn’t my reason.
“They are getting close…” Catherine said. “They have made up, and those rumors circling the academy are over. I thought their interaction was gonna end with just that but the headmistress asked me to talk with Adrian about what happened.”
I wasn’t worried about that. Agatha has been preoccupied lately. Despite how much she cherished her son, her lost assets were vividly more important.
Due to Vixen’s involvement, Agatha’s actions have grown rash, too.
Catherine’s hand cupped my face and redirected me toward her eyes.
“Where did you go?”
I set the bowl down, picked her up, and set her against the counter, my lips connecting with hers.
“Honey…” she moaned when I went lower, covering her nipples through the nightdress with my mouth.
I felt them go hard instantly.
Catherine rasped. “W-We can’t, Esme might…” She hissed when I used my teeth, hands flying to my shoulder to get me to pause, but I didn’t.
I only pulled back to cover her lips once more.
“Honey!”
I released a breath and placed my forehead on hers.
“I have a meeting with the board of directors. I haven’t thought about it until now,” I said.
My mind has been covered with the underworld.
Catherine giggled. “That’s a first. Ares King isn’t prepared for a meeting. How is it going anyway? The …um.. underworld?”
“It’s chaotic…” I admit.
“And your grandmother?”
That seemed to be her major focus, and I understood perfectly.
I moved her close, and she gasped at the sudden action. I could feel her wet pussy against my sweatpants.
“I’m close to taking her down.”
“You play the long game…”
I blinked at her abrupt words.
“Corner them and then… decide if you wanna give them death or not.”
Her words caught me a bit by surprise… she spoke as if she had an idea how things would go down.
“What makes you say that?”
“Because I know you…” She replied far too softly, and the way her hazels bored into mine.
“Memento mori …” she quoted. “Do you think your grandmother deserves death or is that mercy?”
“What do you think?”
“You’re asking me?”
“Yes…” I said, observing her closely.
I considered Catherine as someone who didn’t have a black consciousness, which was why the underworld was no place for her. The sense of justice down there was way different, and it comes with perks that had no label of morality.
Yet at that split second, I saw something in Catherine I hadn’t seen before. Darkness.
I’m captivated.
The sharpness in her gaze and how stern she spoke without offering emotions towards the situation.
“Do what you see fit…” She replied, masking up what I had seen earlier, and I became eager to pull that back out.
“I didn’t expect this…”
“What?”
“I was expecting you to say that there’s no need to put her down. Isolating her and knowing she has nothing against us anymore was the best choice.”
“It doesn’t matter if that happens; she would still weasel her way through any means. Some situations are better off being taken care of permanently.”
