The First Legendary Beast Master - Chapter 1697 This Is Why They're Fun

Chapter 1697 This Is Why They’re Fun
Rae moved to the edge of the pool area to engage a group of warriors who had gathered to face her.
Her Golems were spreading in the other direction, except for the two spider shaped ones, who were in the shadows, waiting to strike.
She was about to move when Cara appeared between them in human form, and handed the closest warrior an orange. Confused, the man simply took it. He had no idea why someone was giving him food in the middle of a battle, or how a child had managed to survive the rampage of the New Home Merchant Clan’s Elders this long.
Then, Cara reached up and sliced his throat open with a blade that hadn’t been in her hand half a second earlier.
“Hey Rae, Fruit Gusher. Get it?”
Then the badger vanished, stepping through the Chaos Plane to her next target, while leaving Rae to face the fury of the slowly regenerating warrior and his allies.
The bleeding warrior dropped the orange and charged, enraged beyond sensibility.
Rae parried his strike with one armoured forelimb while she drove another forward into his chest, silently thanking her sister for ensuring nobody would consider running from her.
The warrior got [Guard] up in time to block the strike, but it sent him sliding twenty metres backward, tumbling down the stairs as he went. That shocked his allies into moving, and Rae laughed as her Golems ambushed two of them, punching holes clean through their armour before the warriors realized they were in danger.
“Always keep your barriers up in combat,” Rae reminded them helpfully, though they were already dead.
“{See, this is why they’re fun.}” Yewan informed his new Legendary perch.
This spot felt like it was even safer than the Karl space.
“I see what you mean, they are quite the interesting bunch. Are you a friend of the Battlemage with the golems?”
“{The Dana Mage? She’s a Golem Mistress now. Which is a funny name because the headmistress of the learning group isn’t in charge of heads, but the Dana Mage IS in charge of Golems.}”
The older dragon chuckled. “Human language is funny like that.”
Dana had spread her Golems in an arc so she could fight her way through the crowd toward the nearest cluster of Elders, who were looking hard-pressed. She had started the fight with Tian and Opal, but had only managed to retain Opal’s assistance, with the butterfly using [Reality Warp] and [Illusionary Domain] plus [Forest Trickster] to create an optimal battlefield for them, complete with combat capable flora and fauna.
The enemy couldn’t escape the battlefield that Opal had created, and it extended all the way to the Elders, giving them a bit of a reprieve, as the illusions were assisting them.
Tian had gone to heal and resurrect the Elders from the New Home Clan who had fallen in battle, before it was too late to do it the easy way. And now they had their full numbers back. But having Thor along made things so much easier.
He was in Behemoth form, and being larger than a city block, he was simply smashing anything that got in his way, including the enemy.
As Tian was learning, physics did actually work in the Immortal Realm, at least in some ways. If you put a hundred tonne behemoth’s foot on someone’s chest, they either used a skill to resist it, or they squished.
And humans were very squishy.
They weren’t like Behemoths, dragons, or even himself. He was an Immortal Rank beast, his hide was tough enough to turn away minor attacks. But humans weren’t like that, they remained fairly fragile unless they had a passive skill for
it.
Which was just weird.
The Karl… no, he wasn’t human. The Dana Mage… probably wasn’t either. Ophelia? No, not her, for sure. Lotus… probably was. She was quite soft and cuddly.
Tian decided that maybe it wasn’t bad that humans were squishy.
From further down the battlefield, closer to where Dana’s Golems were fighting, Leo sighed in frustration. Given a few more years, that could have been him serving as the mobile command post for the recovery team.
He would be big enough, and unlike Thor, he could float.
The False Island Giant Turtle was clearly the superior mobile base, but he was still too young for the job.
Vines shot up out of the ground as Leo advanced, grabbing and immobilizing the enemy combatants, so that Leo and the Golems could slap them, and Cara could loot them dry.
The badger was using a combination of [Pilfer] and manual pocket checks to get as much loot back from the enemy as she could.
If these people didn’t want to give up the fifth that the Clan was owed, she would take the other four fifths as well, as a penalty for stinginess.
The former members of the Gralpedrin Templars didn’t understand what was going on. Surely, whatever sort of artifact the New Home Merchant Clan had activated to empower them during the battle didn’t have this much range?
And shouldn’t their combat bonuses have expired by now? Most such mass scale talismans only lasted an hour or two and needed years to recharge. But the more that they fought that damnable badger, the stronger it was
getting.
At first, they were leaving wounds on it, but now it was barely noticing the damage. Unfortunately for them, they couldn’t leave. Everything that they owned was still in the Clan, or on their person, and the badger was determined
to get it all.
But Cara was not the one that had attracted the attention of the Legendary Black Dragon.
No, it was Karl who had that honour.
Fighting in cat demon form had become inefficient, with both his and Dana’s Golems in the compound. Instead, he had used his [Mirror Images] to create another pair of World Dragons, and he had gone on a rampage in dragon form. That still wasn’t quite enough to turn the tide of the battle, though. Karl checked his Skill Tree, and saw the first two skills he had access to.
[Pet Sitter] Summon Up To 5 [Lesser Watchers] to Supervise Lesser Beings on
your behalf. Pet Sitter may observe the world through the senses of the [Lesser
Watchers]
[Dominion] Increases Maximum Casting Range to Maximum Sensory Range.
Increase Area of Effect Spells Radius at a cost of 100 mana per meter.
He only had enough points to get one of the two right now. But in this
situation, he would follow the advice of the Supreme Ranked Darklight Host
members, and get [Pet Sitter] first.
{New Skill Learned} [Pet Sitter]
Karl called the [Lesser Watchers], hoping for the best, as the skill didn’t specify
how strong they were, or what sort of skills they had.
What he got was not at all what he had expected.
The Lesser Watchers were not cute and cuddly things that any beast would
love to be watched by. They were some sort of Eldritch Horror, standing five metres tall, with a tentacle for one arm, and a head that almost looked like someone had stretched an octopus over a human skull.
