The Invincible Full-Moon System - Chapter 1885: Shady Vault

Chapter 1885: Shady Vault
Rex looked over the side mirror of the car and checked whether he was being followed.
He has three spies on him at all times.
All of them gave him privacy during dinner, but once it ended, the spies were back. And among them, Liebert was the most motivated. It was obvious since he had been keeping at least a kilometer distance before, but now, he was maintaining half of that distance.
Seems like the test with Aksa put Rex more into his radar.
But then again, Rex has no other choice but to beat them since Aksa wouldn’t stop, no matter what.
It was inevitable.
Fortunately, Bellana was there to help him navigate this.
Before dropping Rex off, along with Davina and Lilliana, she gave Rex three things. First is the sleek black leather glove to lighten his presence, the second is a perfume that’ll copy his scent and presence, and the third is a teleportation device.
That is how he could get to the police headquarters without being followed to meet with Aaran.
Seems like Davina was right about pursuing connections.
It worked so flawlessly that it surprised Rex.
Even now, the System hadn’t sensed any of the spies, so they must still be near the penthouse.
Still fooled.
“How are you able to prepare these things so quickly?” Rex turned towards her, driving the car at a moderate speed. “You even gave me those three things on the spot. I get the glove, but the perfume and the teleportation device?”
“It’s my dad,” Bellana smiled sheepishly. “He’s rather strict, so I do this often.”
Rex somewhat already had that guess, but it’s still surprising.
For her to be very prepared like this, her dad must have been really strict.
“Hope I won’t get into trouble by being near you.”
“You won’t. He won’t know.”
Bellana sounded confident, and Rex was assured because of that.
But that got him thinking.
Soon, I’m going to have a daughter. Am I also going to be strict with her? I don’t know.
More importantly, I haven’t even thought about a name. Forget it. Calidora can pick the name.
Aaran’s portal is on the other side of the city.
It was a long ride. Larta City was bigger than Rex had expected. Perhaps even exceeding Ratmawati City in sheer sprawl. According to Bellana, crossing from one end to the other would take a full day of driving, and that was under ideal traffic conditions, so it’s really big.
Fortunately, they should reach the portal in about five hours.
And during the ride up until the midpoint, Bellana was more silent than normal.
“What is it?” Rex asked, leaning his head back and glancing towards her. “You have something to say.”
“Ah—sorry,” She apologized. “I only got my license not too long ago, so I’m still scared to talk while driving.”
“You saw what happened inside the interrogation room, did you?”
“…”
Rex could easily see through her mind.
Maybe because his enemies, previous to the God Realm, had all been ruthless and barbaric, he forgot this place had order in place. Unlike Davina or Lilliana, who wouldn’t bat an eye at what he did, this young girl beside him is completely different.
Such an interrogation method must have scared her.
And right now, she’s probably regretting helping Rex do this.
But since she was here already, she had to go through with it. She’s basically stuck.
“If you’re that troubled with it, then say something. You might as well ask since we’re here.”
“Is it true?”
“Is what true?”
“Did you kill Aaran’s sister? Is that really her… finger?”
Rex laughed a little.
He was already expecting the question, but it’s still funny to him.
“Why are you laughing?” Bellana glanced at him, pouting, and the car wiggled as she lost focus, but she got in under control again. It seemed it was true when she said she had only gotten her license. “It’s not funny!”
“Kinda funny,” Rex waved his head. “No, of course not. When did I have the time to do that?”
“You said you did it when Davina told you about her deal with him.”
“Yeah, that’s a lie. Just the most logical time to make it convincing to Aaran.”
“So, it’s not? Phew…” Bellana slumped on her chair, finally easing her tense body after a few hours of driving out of fear that she was sitting beside a dangerous person who could kill as easily as breathing. “I was so scared. You should have told me sooner! I thought you’re the type of person who’d kill over a small mistake.”
“I’m not a Seer,” Rex chuckled. “How can I read your mind?”
Of course, though he only implied that he had killed Aaran’s sister, he would do it.
Had Aaran not surrendered, then a more extreme method would’ve been needed.
And on the other hand, Bellana’s eyes widened slightly, and her body tensed again at a realization.
’It’s not Aaran’s sister’s finger, but it’s still an actual finger, right…?’ She swallowed harshly. It seemed she really was sitting beside a killer. “Can I ask you another question? Do you need to go that far with Aaran?”
“Speak clearly,” Rex answered lazily. “Which part did you think I went too far?”
Rex was quite annoyed by this conversation.
It’s like talking with Kyran back when he was still naïve, young, and weak.
But the difference is that the woman beside him right now is a Demigod, making her incredibly strong.
Someone privileged from being born in the God Realm.
“You know… Bringing his family and things,” She clarified. “I don’t think you need to go that far.”
Frankly, Rex somewhat agreed with what she was saying.
He possessed a dozen ways to extract what he needed from Aaran. Pain was always reliable, but patience and manipulation had their merits, too. Bringing the family into it was unnecessary—a blunt instrument when pain would be more than enough.
But he learned something from all of his enemies.
None of them gives a damn about his family.
So, why would he need to care about others’ families?
At least he has the decency not to actually touch them first unless it is absolutely necessary.
“Just drive the car.”
His voice was colder now, and Bellana could tell almost instantly as he didn’t even try to hide it.
Speaking about that made him remember that now, Kaiser and the other Lunirich Gods were actively hunting his family to hurt him and break his will. He needed to reach his destination swiftly and grow strong enough along the way that the Lunirich Gods would feel what it felt like being on the receiving end.
Being Gods for a long time made them arrogant.
Rex would make them remember how it felt to be mortals.
Moments later.
“Is it here?” Rex looked out the window and saw a dark alley.
“It’s supposed to be here.” Bellana tapped the screen on the dashboard—frowning at the glowing map. She cross-checked the coordinates again, half-expecting to find a typo. She had not made one. “Yes. It’s here.” She gestured toward a narrow opening between two buildings. “We just need to go through that alley, and the place should be on our left.”
According to Bellana, there was a secure vault specifically for portals.
Just like a bank, but used to store personal portals.
It’s in the same industry as Bellana’s business.
As Rex already learned, in order to tear through the dimensional fabric of the Primordial Meadow and open a portal to another realm, one would need a permit. There are levels to these permits—and the one Rex got from High Lord Rashal is a permanent permit.
It meant that the portal would stay open until Rex closed it manually.
Not surprised since he got it straight from the High Lord.
But a permit would only allow the opening of a portal from one side.
One would need permission from the owner of the other realm to connect the portal to the designated realm. There was another level above the one Rex had, and that is the Primordial Authority. One that he was haggling with the High Lord.
Everyone used this portal vault for their own portals.
Other than it being mandatory, it was also secure as nobody can access it without identification.
It was only earlier that Rex realized he got a leeway by opening a portal from his own penthouse.
Along the way, Rex had seen numerous brands of vaults.
Since they were official establishments, their buildings were big and bright, easy to spot from practically anywhere. But this alley showed no sign of light. Just darkness, trash, and creative gravities on the wall. One look and it was obvious that it was a shady place.
Bellana even doubted that Aaran gave the right location.
But there are people there.
Rex scanned the alley, and he saw people on an entry through a fragile steel fence gate.
The coordinate should be correct.
Rex got out of the car and closed the door behind him with a quiet click. He swept his gaze left—then right. Nothing. The street was a hollow pocket of Larta City. No people around. Just stillness and the shroud of darkness.
A lesser man might have felt unease prickling at his neck.
But Rex had experience being one of the Black Hands in the SCO, and this was nothing.
“Wait here,” He said and tapped the car door. “I’ll not take long.”
As he took a few steps, he heard a car door being opened and closed.
Bellana also got out.
“I’m coming with you,” she said. Before he could protest, she pressed on. “You won’t know your way around the Cavity once you step through the portal. I will. Dad has regular business there. And besides—” She arched an eyebrow. “Do you really think I’m safer sitting alone in the car?”
Rex wanted to argue, but couldn’t.
He brought her here, so he’s responsible for her well-being.
Keeping her close is the only choice.
Just that, I know how I’ll be treated with a girl around.
Intimidation in order to make sure the people he’s going to meet are not going to make it difficult for him to work if he’s alone, or with a partner who looks as intimidating as him. But with Bellana and her pure, innocent face, that’s not going to happen.
“Keep a straight face. Don’t look around. And leave the talking to me.”
“Right.”
Soon enough, an abandoned warehouse came into view.
A handful of figures stood posted before the warehouse, each clutching an origin-rank weapon. They had the look of thugs—but there was a disciplined edge to their arrangement. The moment Rex stepped through the gate, he felt a dozen pairs of eyes lock onto him.
Some were obvious, while some came from places unknown.
Either way, their number was a problem.
“You’re shaking,” Rex said whisperingly, realizing that Bellana also sensed the gazes. “Don’t be afraid. Being afraid would only embolden them. You’re here with me. If I want to, I could kill them all before you can even realize it.”
That calmed Bellana down a bit.
A man stood in their way when they arrived before the warehouse entrance.
“What’s your purpose for coming here?” He asked flatly. “This is no place to wander around.”
Seeing that Bellana avoided eye contact, two other men beside the entrance stood up and approached.
Both of them circled Rex and Bellana, sizing them up.
One even touched Bellana’s hair gently, making her flinch.
“A portal,” Rex took out the small box from his pocket and opened it. Inside was a small marble with rotating energy inside, and there was the mark unique to Aaran on it. Two sickles merged into one from their handles with roots. “I’m in a hurry.”
The man took the marble and inspected it.
He could recognize the mark, but he didn’t remember Rex.
“This permit belonged to that Aaran kid,” He said and placed the marble back into the box. “But I don’t recognize you. Who are you? And why do you have Aaran’s permit?”
At a signal from the man’s hand, the two other thugs drew their weapons.
“If you don’t give us a satisfactory answer, then this warehouse will be your grave.”
