The Invincible Full-Moon System - Chapter 1891: Core of Lightning

Chapter 1891: Core of Lightning
Rex pushed open a gate and entered the zenith of the tower.
He stopped at the entrance, surprised at what lay beyond.
Before him was a spacious, circular chamber that breathed in stillness. Its vast space is draped in ethereal brown stone veined with quiet veins of gold. No light in the Cavity, but the room was well-lit. The light came from below, soft and deliberate, highlighting gilded carvings and the edges of pillars.
Below, the floor was polished to the point that Rex could even see his reflection clearly.
Something is in the air.
It feels ancient and also gives the impression of a profound, ancient chamber.
No wind stirred, but it’s chilly inside. No furniture inside, but it feels full.
“Meditating in this place would be divine,” Rex muttered inwardly as he entered the chamber. Every step he made echoed, but it didn’t reach far. Like the air was heavy. “Now that I looked at it, this place might have been made exactly for that.”
Rex scanned the chamber with the System.
He wanted to know whether this place was some kind of treasure with unnatural effects.
And he was right.
…
<Hall Anvil of Ages>
Rank: Transcendent
Description: A meditation chamber built that is tempered through hundreds of years and is also blessed by the Weaver of Time. It’s made of a highly energy-resistant material, allowing nothing to escape. Its material also has a unique attribute of breaking down any kind of energy that touches it, allowing better mastery training over all energy.
…
Rex stared at the notification and frowned.
“Transcendent?” He stared at the rank section—and contemplated, trying to recall whether he had ever seen a transcendent rank item before. “I have never seen this rank before. Is transcendent the rank above divine rank?”
<Yes.>
“Huh…” He takes a look around with interest. “It’s the God Realm. Of course, it has access to a higher rank item.”
At the chamber’s heart, Rex came across a meditation platform surrounded by gently running water that formed a perfect hexagon. The water was crystal clear and impossibly pure; its gentle murmur was soft enough to soothe the most violent soul.
It provided a perfect ambient sound that encourages serenity.
“Might as well…”
Rex sat cross-legged on the platform and swept his gaze across the entire chamber.
He could stay here for years without a problem.
Curious as to what kind of power made a transcendent rank item, Rex closed his eyes and entered a meditative state. According to the description, the chamber would break down any energy, making it easier for anyone to master that energy.
So, he wanted to test it out.
His mastery over his energy was already immaculate.
It would be interesting to see what this chamber would provide to someone like him.
Blitz—!
Black lightning sparked across Rex’s full body, crackling gently at first before turning violent. It lashed outward, reaching farther from its source. Sensing it still fell short of the walls, Rex poured more energy into the storm, and it intensified.
And the moment it struck the wall, something incredible happened.
Clang—!
Rex’s brows dipped into a frown when the black lightning was shattered into multiple layers.
From his Awakened senses, he could feel each layer clearly. A core at the deepest part, which was the part that he controlled directly. Above it was a layer that protected the core—incredibly dense. And the outer layer is the crackles that are made up of the violent nature of the element.
Intrigued, Rex did it multiple times.
Every time his black lightning shattered, he branded the sensation into his senses.
It took about half an hour before his senses could fully memorize the sensation.
“I never knew that there were layers to my element,” Rex opened his eyes and looked at the lightning that danced on his fingers. “Ever since the Mortal Realm deteriorated, after the sealing of the Supernatural races, much knowledge was lost. I remember Flunra, when he was still Arnulf, scoffing at Humanity for assimilating with a Spirit to the sixth rank.
“I also remembered how powerful and purer the Fifthborn’s element was,” Rex contemplated.
Just from what he knew alone, it was clear that Humanity had forgotten many things.
As a matter of fact, every Awakened walked a road paved with scraps of Ancient Human wisdom, pieces of a greater whole that were pieced together across decades. Rex had known about this deep down, but only now did he feel its weight.
His elemental prowess is not exceptional.
Measured against the other Elementalists, his was barely adequate. Sub-par.
Rex didn’t feel it because of his innate physical strength from being a werewolf.
His enemies were hurt mainly because of his strength, not so much because of his elemental prowess.
At least, this was the case for the enemies outside of the Mortal Realm.
“But I can’t possibly break down everything and start over,” Rex rubbed his chin, recalling the sensation he felt as he repeatedly struck the chamber walls with his black lightning. “There are three layers, but I can only control the core. I can only control the other two layers indirectly by putting more or less mana into the core.
“Can I do something about it?” Rex closed his eyes again.
Now that his senses can vaguely catch the three layers, he wants to take a closer look at each one.
See how each one operated.
And to do that, he would need to create a big splash, so he stood up.
“Symbol of Lightning…” Rex chanted, and a zig-zag black symbol appeared on his shoulder. He put more mana into it, and the symbol grew, covering his entire arm. Arcane mana swelled inside him, and he channeled it into his right arm before thrusting his hand forward. “Great Spell, Sharp Lightning!”
Blitz—!
A lightning strike the size of a person bursts from his hand, firing straight at the wall ahead.
It cuts through the air chaotically.
And when the impact detonated, black lightning splintered outward—forking through the chamber like the branches of a great, dark tree. It struck the walls and rebounded, a storm of ricocheting bright light that painted the room in stuttering, violent flashes.
Rex stood at the center; the entire spectacle reflected in the gleaming surface of his crimson eyes.
He activated the Extreme State skill and also the Weaver of Madness to draw out his adrenaline.
It allowed him to perceive the world at a slower pace.
And through the crawl of slow motion, he tracked the first black lightning strike as it cratered into the wall. The violent, scattering sparks, which were the outer layer, broke apart on impact and died, fading like mist in sunlight.
He then turned to another lightning strike, but focused on the second layer.
Its dense body held for longer than the outer layer, but it, too, began to wane—the arcane mana inside it was broken down thread by thread as the core pulled it inward and consumed it whole. The only one that remained after the impact was the core, and it demanded more mana to maintain itself.
Rex blinked, and the world returned to its normal speed.
Now, there was clarity in his eyes.
Based on his observations, the core part of the black lightning was the source of the other two parts.
Unaware of the other two layers, he had simply fed the core his arcane mana, and it had split the energy evenly—producing a balanced attack that expressed the spell uniformly. But the element itself has more to show than that.
It didn’t have to always be that way.
From the looks of it, with enough mastery, Rex could dictate the core split as he wanted.
“In theory, I could make the core focus entirely on a single layer. That would produce a different effect—something other than the balanced output.” He thought aloud, already moving toward the nearest pillar. “But first, I need to see what my current state looks like.”
Rex did the same attack, but this time, he aimed at the pillar.
Blitz—!
Crack—!
He rolled his shoulders back and nodded at the sight of the two-meter-deep hole carved into the massive pillar. This would be his baseline—the impact he’s going to use as a comparison. As the pillar repaired itself unnaturally without any use of energy, Rex began charging another attack.
For a moment, he lifted his hand and closed his eyes.
Slowly, he sensed the core that made up the black lightning and suppressed it.
He pulled the arcane mana that the core automatically exerted back and then slowly pushed it out again.
Instead of splitting the arcane mana evenly between the two layers, he decided to allocate everything solely to the second layer. Since the second layer was the closest to the core, he decided to try to allocate to it rather than the outer layer.
At first, everything went well, and the dense layer formed as it normally would.
But the moment it surpassed a threshold, the black lightning went rampant.
Rex tried to control it, but he couldn’t stop the discharge.
Boom—!
From the smoke, Rex was blasted out and screeched across the ground.
He remained on his two feet and managed to catch himself before slamming into the wall.
But as he was about to try standing up, a violent cough wracked his body—blood spilled from his lips. He looked down, stunned. Thumb-sized holes peppered his torso. They were not shallow either. The black lightning had punched deep, burrowing nearly halfway through his flesh.
It was solely thanks to his reactive instinct that he avoided fatal damage from that discharge.
Rex clicked his tongue in displeasure.
“It’s like learning the Brutal Impulse again,” He muttered, recalling the countless times his arm suffered an implosion until he finally mastered the Direct Moon Ability. “Am I being too hasty? Let’s try slowing down the process.”
Undisturbed by the danger in this experiment, Rex continued the same thing.
He slowed down the process, letting the second layer stabilize first before infusing more.
But it was harder than he thought.
Five discharges in less than ten minutes. His form had become a crucible—and without his abnormally potent regeneration, the process would’ve been agonizingly slow. Week of recovery between each try, or perhaps even more.
Instead, he healed and pushed forward.
Not to mention, his control over the lightning element was better than normal.
Rex was able to properly experiment because it’s not possible without perfect control.
One mistake would lead to a discharge, so he needs to be precise.
And it was only then that he remembered his elemental affinity had been upgraded to avidity.
Davina and Lilliana were the ones who made that happen.
At the one-hundredth attempt, Rex held his wrist with his free hand and stared at the lightning intensely.
In it, he could feel the second layer nearing completion. He had infused roughly six-tenths of the arcane mana required for the Sharp Lightning spell. Pushing any further would only trigger another discharge and waste the attempt entirely.
So, Rex settled on that and let the remaining arcane mana free.
His eyes shifted back to the pillar, and with a forceful grunt, thrusts his hand forward.
Blitz—!
Rex’s eyes widened.
He watched the black lightning that burst from his hand, and it was at least twice bigger than it was.
In addition, the recoil from using the Sharp Lightning was far stronger. The strain climbed through his arm and made his muscles twitch. And when the black lightning reached the massive pillar, it didn’t create any detonation.
Instead, it pierced through like a bullet and came out from the other end with a thunderous crash.
Rex paused.
It took a moment for him to snap out of his stupor and walk around the massive pillar to check.
On the wall across the chamber, he saw a dent that was healing. And behind the pillar, there was a hole that matched the size of his black lightning. And it was only then that he suck in a cold breath, “Did it really get that much stronger…?”
