The Invincible Full-Moon System - Chapter 1918: Assignment from the High Lord

Rex’s hands were tied.
At this moment, he had several powerful enemies who wanted nothing more than to see him die.
He already has things in mind that he needed to do, which many would consider immoral—and he had resolved himself to go through with it. But even so, there was no need for him to add another powerful enemy on his back.
Being High Lord Rasha’s enemy would be catastrophic for him.
And more importantly, it would only distract him from achieving his goals.
So, he needed to restrain himself from going overboard. This is him holding back. Despite what High Lord Rashal instructed Liebert to do, he decided not to pursue it right now. He was in a pickle and couldn’t have his focus split again.
I’m showing you respect, Rashal. I know you’re sharp enough to notice this.
Informing what he wanted to say to High Lord Rashal’s face through Liebert should be civil enough.
He was quite sure High Lord Rashal would understand it and accept this outcome.
Just like Rex, he’s incredibly sharp and would no doubt see the respect that was present in this message.
“Do you understand?” Rex asked again, pulling on Liebert’s hand to make sure that he was listening.
“Y-Yes,” Liebert cleared his throat when his voice came out hoarse. “Yes, I understand. I’ll relay your message to the High Lord. I’ll tell my team to release Zev. I also have been rude just now—I hope you can forgive me,” He turned to Davina and Lilliana. “Lady Davina and Lilliana, I hope you can forgive me, too.”
Both of them nodded in response.
Even though they were still angry from earlier, they knew when to stop.
They could feel what Liebert could feel.
That Rex was quite angry with the situation, and he was desperately trying to hold back.
Once he really understood his mistake, Rex released his hand and withdrew, settling back into the sofa without breaking eye contact. He crossed one leg over the other, ankle to knee, and gestured. “Go on— then. Deliver your message.”
Liebert cleared his throat again and handed over the envelope before conveying the message.
It was a direct order from the High Lord.
He conveyed that Rex was assigned to the Red Skull Elite Force, which was a squadron of elite forces from the military that answered directly to the High Lord. It’s basically a private kill team of the High Lord and was only known by a few powerful figures.
Just a couple of days ago, the Grey Realm, an important realm tied to the realm cluster connected to the Larta City, was invaded by the enemy forces. And the Red Skull Elite Force was tasked with taking out the invaders.
Based on the intelligence, the invaders came from another hive city bordering Larta City.
Liebert explained that the hive cities also had several realms that were similar to the Cavity, which was a farmland for divine strands. Each hive city paid tax to the Overseer, and depending on the sheer amount of taxes paid, the hive city would gain incredible benefits.
High Lord Rashal came to power recently.
And when he ascended to power, becoming the High Lord of Larta City, he was also bestowed access to the Cavity. He was bestowed the task of handling the Cavity. Of course—the divine strands harvested from that place were owned by the Overseer through its extensions, the Pale Defenders.
It couldn’t be exploited by anyone due to how many divine strands it generated.
Only the Pale Defenders have authority over there.
However, it doesn’t mean High Lord Rashal gained nothing from watching over the Cavity.
He gained something.
And that is an additional percentage bonus, from the number of divine strands produced by the Cavity in a specific period. It wasn’t a high percentage, but it’s still something when the total amount of divine strands produced was astronomical.
For that reason, many of the other High Lords are jealous of High Lord Rashal.
Some even started messing with his territory, which was how the Grey Realm became a target of attack.
Rex and the Red Skull Elite Force are tasked to take care of the invaders from hostile hive cities.
After his visit to the Cavity a few days ago, Rex had learned more than enough about that place. More than he was planning to. What Liebert was explaining now came as no surprise. Divine strands were the currency of the God Realm, so naturally, a problem like this would arise.
“You will attend a meeting with the Red Skull Elite Force. Don’t worry, someone will arrive to escort you.” Liebert then shifted his gaze to Davina and Lilliana. “Both of them may accompany you. It won’t be an issue.”
“Anything else?” Rex asked, and Liebert shook his head. “In that case, I’ll be making my preparations.”
“I’ll be taking my leave, then,” Liebert stood up.
Rex saw Liebert to the door, then closed it with a soft click and turned the lock.
Once he returned to the living room, both sisters were staring at him with a gaze that he couldn’t read.
“What?” He asked, raising a brow.
“Nothing,” Lilliana shook her head and lay her head against the sofa. “Just admiring.”
“Admiring? Me? Admiring me for what?”
“Of course, admiring the way you handled the situation. How can you even come up with a solution to that so quickly? Her eyelids dropped halfway, like she was enthralled by Rex. “For you to come up with a solution that could even hurt the High Lord on the spot, who can do that?”
Frankly, this all started from an assumption.
Before he exited the Cavity, there was a feeling of unease inside his stomach.
The System’s scanning feature had swept through the entire area, scanning everyone around, but with so many people packed together, isolating a single spy proved to be difficult. Normally, he could have sniffed them out, but this was unfamiliar territory.
New scents and new variables. Everything became harder.
Because of that, he decided to assume that someone successfully spied on him.
And that’s how he came up with Zev being in trouble.
Rex placed himself in the spy’s shoes and was certain that Zev would be targeted.
He was the only one who had talked with Rex intensively and would surely have good information.
Davina pulled Lilliana’s hair—yanking her head back as she was starting to flirt with Rex again. Lilliana complained, pushing out her lower lip—but she ignored her. “Is that why you had been taking trips out earlier in the morning?” She asked, remembering waking up without Rex on the bed beside her.
It made her annoyed and empty, but she knew he was doing something and didn’t want to disturb him.
“Something like that.” Rex sat down on the single sofa with a deep sigh.
He worked through the logic coldly and unbiased. A spy with knowledge of his ties to Zev would report to a superior—specifically someone assigned to manage his case, and there were three spies that instantly came to mind.
And from those three, Liebert’s name came to mind.
Out of the three spies that were watching him, Liebert was the only one who made contact.
It was clear that he was the person in charge.
And from there, he used Bellana’s tricks to avoid being detected to spy on Liebert.
Rex had simply tracked Liebert’s movements and intercepted the weaker spies just as they were about to transport the Permit extracted from Zev to Liebert. That was how he’d managed to empty the box. It had been painstaking work, but entirely worth it.
Now, he should succeed in making High Lord Rashal understand his position.
That there’s no need for the High Lord to one-up him when he has no playing cards in his hands.
Other than what he created from their first meeting, of course.
As for Zev, Rex couldn’t check on him, as getting too close would expose his location. All he could do was hope Zev wasn’t killed or anything for having ties with him. But from the look Liebert had earlier, it seemed he was still alive.
Just kept somewhere to be interrogated.
Rex leaned his head back on the sofa, stretched his legs onto the table, and then crossed them.
“Now what?” Davina asked.
“Now…” Rex closed his eyes for a second. “We’ll help the High Lord with this one problem. After that, we won’t accept anything he asks us to do anymore. Our deal doesn’t extend to continuous help. So, we’ll have to see after this problem is resolved.
“I’m sure the High Lord wouldn’t keep his word,” Davina scoffed. “Impossible for him to be truthful.”
She was quite sure Rex had already made sure to have negotiating power.
And he did it most certainly well.
But they don’t have the power to make sure the High Lord would keep his word.
Once the High Lord finished using them to the limit, she was certain he would simply toss them away.
If he backed out of the deal, what could they even do? Nothing. And that’s where the problem lies.
“You’re right—” Rex nodded without opening his eyes. He wasn’t surprised that Davina could also tell where the exact problem lay that he hadn’t addressed. “Making guarantees with a powerful being like the High Lord is going to be hard, but I reckoned both of you can help.”
“Help you?” Lilliana frowned. “How?”
“Like we did with Bellana…” Davina’s eyes narrowed. “Is that right?”
“Precisely,” Rex’s lips curled a little, expecting no less from this genius fiancé of his.
“You want us to make more friends?” Lilliana looked at Rex and then to Davina, totally at a loss. “I’m pretty confident with my social skills, but I don’t think befriending someone at the same or similar status as the High Lord would be that easy to do.”
“It’s not that, you idiot.” Davina tugged at her hair again in exasperation. “We’re going to be working alongside that Red Skull Elite Force squad Liebert mentioned—the ones directly under the High Lord. One of them has to know something. Something we can use as leverage to pressure the High Lord into keeping his word and giving us what we’re owed.”
“I’m not slow,” Lilliana smacked her lips in displeasure while fixing her hair—annoyed at the situation that made her look back. “Just that the two of you are thinking too fast.”
Later that night.
Rex was sitting on the sofa in a meditative position, and his eyes were closed.
Something inside him was churning.
Every sense he had was stretched to its breaking point, demanding his complete focus. The air around him warped and shuddered; pace itself was distorting, but nothing emerged. It was as if he was reaching for something he lacked the mastery to pull through.
And eventually, he opened his eyes.
“Sigh…” Rex looked at his hand, frowning deeply. “It’ll take a really long time at this rate.”
Beyond making the skills from Night-Divine Adaptation permanent, the sudden quest had granted him one additional skill, which was the reason the sudden quest was triggered in the first place. It was the Pure God Sense.
It’s a skill that would help him sense the colorless energy that was dominant in the God Realm.
Immortal Energy.
Rex had been fretting about that very problem, as it’s a weakness, one that puts him at a disadvantage if he fights any Godlings. He can’t sense immortal energy before, so any attack conjured using that energy would bypass his senses entirely.
Now, he has the exact skill he needed.
However, even with the skill, he couldn’t use or even sense immortal energy properly.
The skill is more like a mastery rather than a skill.
It needs Rex to constantly train on using it until he can finally sense and use immortal energy. Unlike what he had hoped for, the skill was only a path for him to take care of the disadvantage. But regardless, he needs to at least be able to sense immortal energy before he meets with the elite squad.
