Tribulation of Myriad Races - Chapter 1990: Mutual Suffering (1)

Chapter 1990: Mutual Suffering (1)
Were the Torchbearers still around? Nobody could say for sure. As for the recent attackers, they were clearly from the chaos race. But who could be sure that the Torchbearers hadn’t been involved in the recent incidents?
Venerable Desolate and Venerable Nether had returned to the nether territory. Both looked gloomy and cold.
They naturally saw the characters hanging in the air. Venerable Nether gritted his teeth and said, “Chaos race!”
Venerable Scrape nodded. “But I am suspicious about something else. The ones who had attacked the Dao Origin Land…were they really from the chaos race?”
Nobody said anything.
Venerable Scrape continued, “During the battle in the Dao Origin Land, one of their pseudo kings died before our eyes. Her name was Zi Yan. And there were some rumors about her floating around. Is everyone here aware of those rumors?”
“Yes. It is said that she has been in the Lower Realm since the previous epoch.”
“In that case, how did she die in the Dao Origin Land?”
The myriad race experts started worrying. A single chaos race was already annoying enough to handle. And now, they had to worry about the Torchbearers as well.
Sacred Source Marquis said, “Things aren’t looking that good in the Lower Realm either. Devilroil Marquis and Fallen Star Marquis are both dead. Tiangu and the others have been very silent recently. If I don’t know for sure that he’s not dead, I would have thought that the Lower Realm has fallen.”
“Things were going so well. Why did all this happen?”
Venerable Moon frowned. Things were indeed going well for them. They had defeated humanity during the ninth epoch. It was supposed to be decisive. Humanity had failed to make a comeback at its peak. But at the final moment, so many variables had appeared.
Venerable Nether said, “The enemies are all in the dark while we’re out in the open. This is our biggest issue. The victory of the ninth epoch separated us and placed us all in the open. Back then, the myriad races were closely aligned, but things had changed. All our dao centers were built far from each other, resulting in our inability to provide help promptly.”
First, it was the dragons. Then, it was the nethers. Annoyingly, the enemies were still hiding in the shadows. They knew too little about the Torchbearers and chaos race. How many experts did they have?
The myriad races knew nothing. The humans that were still out in the open were on the verge of destruction, but the hidden humans were much more terrifying. They were terrifying enough that the myriad races didn’t even know who they were facing anymore. Their expressions turned unsightly.
They had been careless after their victory during the ninth epoch. They had founded more dao centers, and these dao centers were far apart from each other. Their Daofuses were also far apart. Six thousand years ago, the Daofuses of the three major races would always be near each other, and the same could be said for their dao centers as well.
After the victory, they had all been busy snatching up new territories and spreading themselves thin. Even their numbers had exploded significantly in the Upper Realm. Looking at the destroyed nether race, they felt terrible.
As for the minor races, they were terrified. The nether race was a powerful race, yet even such a powerful race had been destroyed. What would happen to them? Wouldn’t the enemies be able to wipe them out with only a few experts?
Venerable Scrape looked at Venerable Dao, who was looking at Venerable Moon. After exchanging gazes with each other, Venerable Scrape said, “The enemies are in the dark while we’re all out in the open. This is our greatest weakness. Our forces are scattered too far apart for us to help when one of us is in trouble.”
After a long silence, he said, “We were already discussing this matter previously. The Human Mountain is a powerful place, and it is also an excellent land of cultivation. However, there is an unwanted dao influence there. Fortunately, that influence has been weakening for many years.
“The Human Mountain is vast enough to accommodate us, and we intend to rebuild the Myriad Race Alliance. I suggest we all migrate to the Human Mountain and form a united force against the Chaos Mountain. Everyone needs to abandon their dao centers.”
Everyone’s eyes flickered upon hearing that.
Some of the bigger races were unwilling to do so, but the minor races were far too terrified to care. Before long, one of them roared, “My race is willing to migrate to the Human Mountain!”
Migration.
And a full alliance.
The incidents involving the dragon and nether races had pushed for an integration between the myriad races. This proposal would face a lot more resistance if it weren’t for the two incidents.
After all, they much preferred ruling their own little plot of land. Who would enjoy living under the mercy of others?
This was similar to how the myriad races had been forced to reside in the Luminous Domain Mansion. They were unwilling, but they were forced to do so. Now, they were forced to do so again. Unity was necessary for the coming threat.
Su Yu’s heart thumped. Then, he cursed inwardly.
Fuck!
Damn those chaos bastards! Because of them, things were getting tricky.
The myriad races were about to integrate further.
Previously, they could pick a random race to attack. But with the myriad races gathered at the Human Mountain, that was no longer possible. This was the best counter to their usual strategy of launching surprise attacks from the dark.
It would be far more dangerous to attempt something like that when the myriad races were gathered in one place. Would the myriad races really do this? It was unlikely without the destruction of the nether race.
But the disaster of the nether race was right before their eyes. Many would agree to the proposal out of fear. Sure enough, another minor representative voiced his support.
“Venerables, for now, we need to prioritize defeating the humans. I agree that we all migrate to the Human Mountain.”
“Chaos race? Torchbearers? If they are together, then they would be a nightmare to face. But if they aren’t together, they might not be a match for us independently. They wouldn’t have bothered to launch only surprise attacks otherwise.”
“Yes. Humanity won’t be our match when we’re united.”
“If the two are actually hostile to each other as well…that is quite likely to be the case. After all, the chaos race had backstabbed Hundred Battle King back then. We can consolidate our position and stay on the defensive. They will probably start going against each other before we can even do anything.”
“…”
The plan of Yue Hao was a success. They did not need the myriad races to be certain that the Torchbearers were out there. They only needed to make the myriad races wary of this possibility.
Meanwhile, Su Yu was grumbling inwardly that he really wasn’t a part of the Torchbearers. But he couldn’t deny that there was a third party hiding in the dark. Should he push Great Zhou King out to take the blame?
“This is essentially a strategy to ensure mutual suffering.”
Su Yu cursed inwardly. The damn Control King’s lineage would also suffer from what they did here.
Yes, Su Yu’s side would be disadvantaged by what they did. But pushing the myriad races together would not benefit them either. That would only strengthen the force they face in the coming war.
“Damn it!”
Su Yu cursed again. But upon thinking more about it, he sighed. Sure enough, a human would not cease being a human. He would most likely do the same in the same position. What was there to fear?
Yes, doing so would expose some of their secrets. But that was a price they were willing to pay so long as they could give their enemies some pain. Oh, the enemies enjoyed hiding in the dark?
Nope. Not happening. Due to this incident, the myriad races would be constantly wary of a third party even when they were fighting Control King’s lineage.
Venerable Scrape said, “The Upper Realm is vast. We have a lot of powerhouses, but they are split everywhere. Thankfully, Human Mountain is big enough to accommodate millions upon millions of people.
“All races will be notified to gather on the Human Mountain. Those refusing the call will be considered our enemies. It is clear that there are many pseudo kings among our enemies, and there might also be a third party hiding in the dark.
“We will gather all our strength to contend against these enemies. All Daofuses are to gather at the Human Mountain. All Venerables are to sweep through the Upper Realm with me. Any living being refusing to migrate to the Human Mountain can be killed. We will empty the Dao Origin Land and the various danger zones. We have been delaying this for so many years due to a lack of motivation.
“But now, powerful enemies are here. We need to come together, sweep through the Upper Realm, and dig all our enemies out. A Myriad Race Supervisory Division will be formed to watch for any potential traitors. The Human Mountain will be renamed to Myriad Race Mountain. The connection between the Lower and Upper Realms will be investigated. A Myriad Power Tower will be built.
“The tower will be in charge of observing the myriad daos. When any dao undulations are detected, the Supervisory Division will move and remove anyone found outside the Myriad Race Mountain. Only unity can help us. The human race is the favourite son of the heavens. If we leave them standing, a day will come when we fall.”
“…”
A series of orders were given by the Venerables.
Clearly, this was something they had decided on way earlier than this. They had merely been waiting for the right opportunity to take action. Su Yu turned solemn. How bold.
Gathering the myriad races on the Human Mountain before sweeping through the entire Upper Realm, including the danger zones to wipe out any threat behind them. Anyone they found outside the Human Mountain after this would be treated as an enemy, regardless of identity.
This would be troublesome. Where could his people hide after this? The Upper Realm was vast, but it also wasn’t that vast. There were many danger zones in the Upper Realm, but not enough to stop all these Venerables.
As for the so-called Myriad Power Tower, it was likely something similar to Great Ming’s Super Sensory Jade.
Su Yu felt like shouting at someone. Damn the Chaos Mountain! Why did they attack the nether race out of nowhere? They had given the Venerables the perfect excuse to enact this plan. Nobody would protest as that would only invite suspicion.
Sure enough, March, Heavenly Fate Marquis, and Thunderstorm frowned, but none could say anything. Were they supposed to refuse? With the chaos race lurking in the dark, everyone was in danger. It didn’t make sense that they would refuse this proposal when it would only help protect their races.
Wouldn’t that be proof of collusion?
While everyone was deep in thought, Venerable Desolate asked, “So? Any questions? We are doing this to protect everyone from the Chaos Mountain and the Torchbearers. Not even the Dao Origin Land is safe anymore. If you still have any experts hiding there in cultivation, please recall all of them. We will not exclude the Dao Origin Land when sweeping through the Upper Realm.
“Over the years, the various races have been competing over the benefits of the Dao Origin Land. How many experts are still hiding there? Nobody knows. Perhaps there are still some humans hiding somewhere in the Dao Origin Land.
“As a precaution against any spies from humanity, I also suggest that each Eternal and Daofuse of the various races leave a strand of willpower behind to be forged into soul tokens. Only the holders of these tokens can move in and out of the mountain. We’re doing this for everyone’s safety.”
Numerous expressions changed upon hearing that. March nearly said something, but he held back when he noticed that Thunderstorm was about to speak.
Sure enough, Thunderstorm’s voice rang out. “Soul token? No freedom of movement without the token? Isn’t this the same as imprisonment?”
“This is a special measure for a special time.” Venerable Desolate said, “Everything will return to normal after we’re done with the Chaos Mountain. Thunderstorm, your race has not suffered any losses so far so you naturally don’t care. I’m curious. Why has the primordial giant race been untouched so far?
“You are free to ask the other races if survival or freedom is more important. The Myriad Race Mountain is vast, and it is an excellent cultivation land. We only need to suppress the influence humanity left behind back then and everything will be fine.”
Su Yu started cheering for Thunderstorm inwardly, hoping that Thunderstorm would start raging or something. Thunderstorm’s expression changed repeatedly. The surrounding Venerables started withholding their auras. The atmosphere turned heavy, as though it was the calm before the storm.
After a long while, Thunderstorm calmed down and said, “Fine. I can agree to this. However, the primordial giant race must be one of the decision makers of the Myriad Race Assembly.”
Prior to this, he was uninterested in being one of the decision makers. But that had to change. He most certainly wouldn’t allow the three major races free rein over them.
Venerable Scrape smiled and said, “That is only natural. In fact, your race won’t be alone.”
He looked around and said, “Any race with a Venerable is welcome to join the inner circle of the assembly.”
He was trying to force the various races to reveal all their hidden experts. Sure, they could keep hiding. But they would have no voice among the decision makers. Their races would be at the mercy of the decision makers.
Venerable Scrape gave the various large races a deep stare. Were there Venerables among the dragons? What about the phoenixes? And the spirits? The kunpengs, golden pengs, three-headed demon wolves, infernal hounds, golden crows…
Were there any hidden experts among these ancient races? Were these hidden experts trying to hide in the dark while the three major races fight on the frontlines? The myriad races were composed of numerous races. It was only natural that there would be numerous competing interests among them.
The three major races had been wanting to dig out the trump cards of the other races for quite some time. And the opportunity to do just that had finally arrived.
The strength of the chaos race was still unknown, but they were already trying to fully unite the myriad races. This wasn’t a regular reaction to a threat. Rather, this was a premeditated scheme.
The experts of the various races started looking at each other in silence. The various Daofuses started conversing among themselves through voice transmissions. Venerable Moon and the others appeared completely indifferent. Meanwhile, Venerable Nether had an unsightly expression. It was clear what the other Venerables were doing. They were taking this opportunity to seize power.
Those without a voice would be thrown out as fodder during the war. Venerable Nether did not say anything. Rather, he started gathering the remaining forces of the nether race in silence. This was a massive loss for the nether race. They had lost two pseudo kings. This was disastrous.
Suddenly, he said, “The chaos race must have a way to spy on the heavens. Not long ago, some of us sensed someone spying on us. The same must have happened since our two pseudo kings were hidden outside our territory yet they were found so easily. They were the first ones to die. Clearly, the enemies have a way to detect our experts before attacking. Additionally, they are also proficient in formations. They had probably used the Heaven Deceiver Formation of Control King.”
“Were the two attacks launched by the same group of people? Do we know anything?” Thunderstorm couldn’t resist asking as both groups seemed to have similar abilities.
The ability to spy on the heavens and the ability to deceive the heavens. This seemed like the work of the same group of people.
“Perhaps this might be a misdirection by the chaos race to confuse us. But it doesn’t matter. We only need to act as if there is really a third party out there.”
