In the early morning, accompanied by the aroma of food, Vikram walked out of his room, rubbing his somewhat dazed eyes.
What greeted him in the living room was a scene of perfect order.
Anjali had already prepared breakfast and set it on the table, Divya and Sophia had presented it on table.
“Vikram, you’re awake. Breakfast is ready. Come eat.”
He nodded and walked to the dining table.
Today’s breakfast was simple steamed corn and stir-fried cabbage, with a fried egg in each of their bowls.
Although this breakfast was light, it was far better than the greasy skewers they used to eat every morning.
Just as Vikram was about to pick up his spoon, Anjali stopped him.
“Wait, I haven’t taken a picture yet,” she said, finding a suitable angle with her left wrist to snap a close-up of the food.
Vikram was puzzled about what there was to photograph, but then he suddenly remembered what he had said yesterday and understood.
Soon, a picture sent by Anjali appeared in the small group chat.
[Anjali: How about it? Breakfast made by me personally. Doesn’t it look appetizing?]
Looking at the message she sent in the group, Vikram shrugged, understanding her sentiment.
The quality of life in the territory was steadily improving, but there were no entertainment facilities to relieve stress.
She wants to flex, and since she is his wife, he let her have something to share.
While eating breakfast, Vikram scanned the group chat. He initially thought there wouldn’t be much reaction in the group, but the result was completely different from what he had imagined.
[Bobby: No way, buddy, you guys are eating fresh vegetables for breakfast?]
Yesterday, when Sunny Dalal showed off his dinner with a mix of meat and vegetables, not many people paid attention, because most could tell it was food poured from a can.
Such food was considered a luxury, but they were able to get it, as it sometimes dropped from treasure chests.
However, with Anjali’s photo, anyone with a discerning eye could tell the food was fresh.
Canned food was mostly mushy, and the food in this photo clearly lacked that characteristic.
This caused a flood of envious messages from a large number of members in the group again.
[Geetanjali: Damn it, I can barely afford bread, and you guys are already eating fresh vegetables??]
[Radhika: Oh, Anju, can you spare a bite of food for your sister to satisfy her craving? I’m practically starving to death.]
Looking at the envy in the group, Anjali felt that waking up early to prepare such a meal was not in vain.
She immediately looked at Vikram, her expression asking if they could share some food with Radhika.
He nodded, not refusing her, then said, “Just send some over for them to taste. Don’t even think about more than that.”
Vikram had his own ideas. The four of them in his territory would definitely not be able to finish all the food harvested there.
These plants would become important trading resources later, especially as meat-based food became scarcer.
Future trades would have to rely on these fresh vegetables, and he believed the trading price of these foods would not be lower than that of meat.
Thinking this, he had already finished a pleasant breakfast and was preparing for the last day before the natural disaster.
He put on his outdoor gear and stepped out of the territory.
“Vikram, are you going out to collect supplies? I’ll come with you,” Divya said when she saw him about to leave.
As she spoke, she started to get her outdoor gear.
However, Vikram held out a hand to stop her, and calmly said, “I’ll go out Phanty this time. You all stay in the territory and guard the home for now.”
“If anything happens, remember to contact me via chat.”
“But…” Divya wanted to say something more, but Vikram reached out and patted her head. He gave her a reassuring look, then pushed the door open and left.
“Phanty, let’s go,” He shouted, Phanty nodded and brought the Universal Bike.
After they sat on the bike, he started it, and soon they came out of the territory.
Today’s goal was only one: to collect as much livestock as possible.
The increasing number of zombies truly gave him a great sense of urgency.
He had a premonition that before long, all normal creatures in the Wasteland World might become zombies.
If he couldn’t collect enough livestock to establish production before that, he might have to live a life where even eating meat required extreme caution.
On the road, Vikram, driving, felt the scenery along the roadside rapidly receding.
The weather today was unusually gloomy. Whether it was his imagination or not, he felt that the visibility outside was much lower.
Along with the decreasing visibility, a dull feeling also arose in Vikram’s chest.
Frowning, he knew this was definitely a warning before the start of the natural disaster.
Other effects had not yet been discovered, but once the natural disaster officially began, visibility would definitely be the biggest factor affecting outdoor activities.
Just then, a crisp “Snap!” sound came from beside the bike.
“Hiss~” Following that, there was a grating, teeth-on-edge scraping sound.
“What the hell was that?” This sound was very clear, indicating that his vehicle had been scratched by something.
But the problem was, his bike speed was not slow at all just now, and normal zombies would most likely not be able to reach it.
Without rushing to stop the vehicle, Vikram looked at the biological detector with a serious expression.
Upon seeing the position of the red dot on the detector, he quickly widened his eyes, as if he had seen something incredible.
He noticed from his all around, many Zombies appeared.
Vikram’s face was ashen, his brows tightly furrowed.
Before Vikram could stop his vehicle, a zombie came and collided with his vehicle.
Following the first one, few more came. And before Vikram understood anything he and Phanty together with the Universal Vehicle fell to the ground.
“What the fuck are these?” Vikram shouted as he slowly stood up, Phanty also stood up and looked angrily at the group of the Zombies.
Vikram stared at groups of these new types of Zombies, and looked at their information in the system.
[Ordinary Zombies: Blue, speed and jumping gained a boost due to special reasons.]
What do these ’special reasons’ mean? Is it the influence of the Calamity Black Mist?
Besides this reason, Vikram couldn’t think of any reasonable explanation.
During the short time Vikram was contemplating, the Zombies roared at Vikram and ran towards him.
But before they reached him, a few vines came from the ground and captured all of them.
Then Phanty looked angrily at them, and using his blades, he killed all of them.
Vikram took all the loot boxes and began his journey again, these Zombies were just a small disturbance for him.
On the road, after the previous attack, Vikram was able to avoid the red dots on the detector and continue searching for places where livestock might appear.
The direct impact of the Calamity was gradually surfacing, which forced Vikram to speed up his actions.
During this time, he also took note of whether any resource points had appeared nearby.
He searched all the way until it was almost dark again in the Wasteland World before he finally returned to the territory.
—
“You’re back! You must be tired. Dinner is ready; we can eat now.”
As soon as he opened the territory’s door, Divya was already waiting behind it.
Looking at the table full of steaming dishes, Vikram showed a relieved smile.
Although he encountered some unexpected events during his outing today, overall, the harvest was quite abundant.
Despite not finding any new resources on the road, he had acquired three livestock.
He led the two wild goats and one large goose he was holding into the territory, settled them, and then, with a hint of fatigue, sat down at the dining table.
“Was there any activity outside the territory today?”
He asked the two of them while enjoying his nutritionally balanced dinner.
Only after receiving a negative answer did Vikram relax.
The territory was his basic means of survival, and if it were targeted by someone, he needs to find out about that, and before the trouble grows, he should erase them.
That’s why he was concerned about the situation of other Survivors outside.
Thinking this, Vikram recalled the Survivors he had encountered in the villa earlier.
He had invited them to join his territory, but so much time had passed without a definitive answer; it seemed there was no chance.
He sighed lightly. Although the plan to introduce new members seemed to have failed, there were many ways to solve the territory’s security issues.
First he is going to build an observation room, like the Vine Sniper Tower, near the gate of Territory 2.
And he will position both Archer Sprouts there. Since except for them, no one was more capable of securing his territory.
But the issue was the price of the Vine Sniper Tower was so costly.
So he thought of using a mix of a few plants and concrete and a wall to create it. It will not be advanced like the Vine Sniper Tower, but still it would be okay.
After dinner, he first checked the chat channel.
The messages in the group were much more optimistic than when the Zombies first appeared.
At least after most Survivors gained a better understanding of Zombies, the probability of being targeted by them became much smaller.
Coupled with the new resources continuously appearing in the Wasteland World, the channel was filled with praise.
[Tonight is the Black Mist Calamity; I’m actually a little excited.]
[What are you excited about? Did you forget the extreme cold so quickly? You’re really forgetting the pain once the wound heals.]
[What do you know? I got a lot of good stuff at the new resource point. No matter how terrifying this Calamity Black Mist is, I’m confident I can get through it.]
[Tch, you’ve had two kg of horse urine and now you’re showing off. When the Black Mist starts, you’ll definitely be the first to die.]
It was clear that the previous Calamity had left a terrifying impression on most Survivors, so as soon as such a careless message was posted, many people came to condemn it.
However, Vikram didn’t care about any of this. His real purpose in checking the chat channel was to see the proportion of new resources discovered by Survivors.
He wanted to use this to estimate the number of new resources in the Wasteland World.
Currently, about two out of ten Survivors have explored new resources.
This number was certainly only more, not less, as there would definitely be people like him who had explored new resource points but kept quiet.
Looking at these people who had collected new resource materials, Vikram couldn’t help but ponder.
What exactly does the Wasteland World want to do? Providing these materials for no reason, with no danger involved, is basically no different from giving them away for free.
Logically, the difficulty of acquiring subsequent resources should gradually increase, so why has it become simpler instead?
With no clues, Vikram could only leave the territory and go to the gate of territory 2 on the right side
This was where he had planned to build the observation room.
