Wasteland: I Awakened A Plant System - Chapter 222: Saving At The End Moment

Percy, the only one who noticed, immediately cried out in alarm, “Brother, be careful!”
Hearing the warning, Ron just came to his senses. He knew his younger brother would never speak carelessly.
Without thinking, he immediately dodged half a step in the crowded space.
However, even though he was fast enough, this Zombie, attacking from behind, was clearly different from the ordinary Zombies in front of him.
The strength of a Mutated Zombie is roughly equivalent to a Survivor with thirty points in physique, and some special variants are even much stronger.
Most Survivors would have to be extremely cautious when facing one head-on, let alone an attack from behind.
Sure enough, not long after, “Swish!” the sound of clothing being torn by sharp claws rang in the ears of the five.
Along with it came Ron’s low growl, “Ah!!!”
“Ron!”
“Brother!”
The first to react was Draco. The moment he saw Ron’s back was injured, his shield remained in front.
But the spear in his other hand accurately pierced the Mutated Zombie that had ambushed Ron.
Unfortunately, this attack did not succeed; after grabbing Ron, Zombie immediately retreated several meters, dodging the blow.
“Tsk.” Seeing the opponent escape, Draco clicked his tongue, not daring to chase.
With so many Zombies still surrounding them, it was already difficult enough to hold them off with shields.
Naturally, he had no energy to deal with that Mutated Zombie.
Just then, Percy’s cry of alarm came from beside him.
“Brother, are you okay? Don’t scare me.” While Harry and the others were still fending off the horde in front, Percy spared a moment of his attention and saw the injury on Ron’s back, his face instantly turning pale.
Hearing the commotion, Draco frowned and immediately looked at Ron’s condition.
He quickly saw a shocking claw mark appearing on his back.
Although Ron had made a dodging movement earlier, the attack still left a very deep wound on his back.
From time to time, some black blood could still be seen in the wound.
Seeing this situation, the first thought in the minds of the four was that it was over.
Being scratched by a zombie was no joke; as long as a wound appeared, it basically meant the injured person was sentenced to death.
At least in all their time in the Wasteland World, they had never seen an exception.
Feeling the pain from his back injury, Ron’s expression changed.
Besides the scratches from the zombie, there was also a sensation of ants biting at the exposed wound on his skin.
“Am I infected?”
Even without prior experience of zombie infection, the reaction in his wound made him think of the zombie virus.
For a moment, fear, resentment, helplessness, and a hint of regret intertwined.
It wasn’t regret about joining Vikram’s Territory, but rather regret for his own insufficient strength and getting distracted during battle.
“I’ve held on for so long, and now I’m going to die because of this tiny zombie?”
In the minus 20-degree Celsius temperature, Ron was drenched in sweat, almost gritting out the words.
The others, witnessing all of this, also felt their hearts pound, and a fear of death spread among the five of them.
Before they could even fully process everything, Ron was infected just like that.
“It’s okay, it’s okay, big brother, I’ll help you squeeze the blood out now, you’ll definitely be fine.”
“Brother Draco, help me block the zombies in front, I need to save my brother.”
Percy yelled hysterically, disregarding Draco’s reaction, and unhesitatingly dropped the shield in front of him.
He immediately prepared to help Ron squeeze out the blood.
As soon as Percy dropped his shield, the pressure Draco faced suddenly increased dramatically.
A single shield was clearly insufficient to block zombies from so many directions.
He could only put away his spear and desperately hold up two shields by himself.
Currently, neither Ron nor his brother were holding shields to fend off the surrounding zombies.
Among the remaining three, there was also a woman with limited combat ability.
The burden that Vikram had alleviated by luring away half the zombies immediately returned to its original state.
Percy’s voice rang out beside him again.
“Big brother, don’t move, I’ll help you squeeze out the toxins right now, and then nothing will happen.”
Percy’s words, whether to comfort Ron or himself, were punctuated by sobs.
Upon hearing this, the three of them all sighed deeply.
They had thought that with Vikram’s arrival, they would be able to escape, but they hadn’t expected the unexpected to arrive sooner than hoped.
As Percy spoke, he reached out to squeeze the blood from Ron’s wound.
But his hand was grasped by a slightly larger hand.
This hand belonged to the already infected Ron.
“It’s no use, Percy, I know what zombie virus is like. Instead of wasting time on me, think of a way to get rid of these damn things.”
Ron looked at Percy, whose eyes were filled with tears, a hint of bitterness flashing in his own.
Percy tried to say something more, but Ron cut him off with a gesture.
“Don’t say anything else. I’m already infected anyway, so I have no more worries now.”
“Percy, give me your weapon!”
“Before, when fighting these zombies, I was afraid of getting hurt and always held back, unable to use my full strength. Now, I’ll show you how powerful your big brother is.”
Percy had always been obedient to his big brother’s words, and even though he knew Ron didn’t have much time, he didn’t refuse.
He wiped a tear from his eye and immediately handed over a long saber.
Ron took the weapon, a long saber in one hand and a metal baseball bat in the other, then turned and charged into the zombie horde.
There were about a hundred zombies surrounding them earlier, but Vikram had drawn away a large portion, leaving only about forty on the field.
With the Mutated Zombie not yet making a move, these ordinary zombies were no match for Ron, who had 30 points in physique and no longer feared infection.
With a series of crisp sounds, the zombie pile quickly became a scene of shattered heads and flying limbs.
A few minutes later, the pressure on the three defenders instantly lessened significantly.
With someone to draw the zombies away, they naturally had a chance to fight back.
Besides Percy and Ginny still holding shields, Harry and Draco each pulled out their weapons and furiously attacked the chaotic horde of zombies.
The number of zombies rapidly decreased with their addition.
From over forty, it dwindled to about a dozen.
“Great, we’re finally almost done with these damn things.” Harry slashed down the zombie in front of him, a slight curve of excitement on his lips.
“Wait!” Just as the situation began to improve, Harry’s face suddenly stiffened.
As if remembering something, his eyes widened.
“Where did that sneaking zombie go?!” Looking at the eleven remaining zombies on the field, Harry felt a sudden sense of unease.
The strength gap between ordinary zombies and Mutated Zombies was still very large.
It was clearly impossible that it had been killed without them noticing.
That left only one possibility… that zombie had hidden again, planning to ambush one of them.
Thinking this, he immediately looked at the four people.
It would have been better if he hadn’t looked; as soon as his gaze turned to Ron, he saw a sight that made his eyes nearly burst from their sockets.
That slightly larger Mutated Zombie had actually crawled out from a pile of corpses and bit towards Ron’s neck.
At this moment, Ron, who was already in a killing frenzy, clearly hadn’t expected to be ambushed again.
When he turned his head and noticed the zombie charging at him, all he saw in his vision was a large, foul-smelling mouth.
“Am I… going to die?” Compared to the fear he felt when he was first infected, he now seemed surprisingly calm.
“Most of the zombies on the field have been killed. Even without me, they should be able to deal with this one Mutated Zombie.”
Ron calmly closed his eyes, awaiting his fate.
“Bang!” However, what responded to him was not pain in his neck, but a chilling sensation on his face.
It was like raindrops on his face, the only difference being that, unlike the colorless and odorless rain, this liquid had a distinct metallic smell.
Half a minute passed.
“Huh?” Realizing something was wrong, Ron opened his eyes.
Looking at the still bloody scene, his eyes were full of confusion.
“Why am I not dead yet?”
“You want to die? Did you ask me, the sharpshooter?”
Vikram blew on the smoke rising from the barrel of his desert eagle, speaking in a rather showy manner.
Hearing the movement behind him, Ron lowered his head and found the Mutated Zombie that had ambushed him twice lying at his feet.
Compared to its previous ferocity, it looked quite quiet and docile with a bullet in its temple.
It was then that he remembered the voice from behind him, and he immediately turned around.
Upon seeing the scene before him, Ron was stunned.
What met his eyes was a RV. Inside the van sat three women, three children and one man, and what was striking was that all three possessed equally high Appearance.
Judging by their healthy, glowing complexions and vibrant spirits, these three were definitely Survivors who lived a life of abundance.
“What, not even a greeting? Have you forgotten me after only a few days?”
In the snow-covered ground littered with zombie corpses, everyone stared at Vikram and the five others inside the car, and they stared back.
Strictly speaking, their relationship was merely one of chance encounters.
If not for the threat from the Green Wind Shelter, the two groups might never have crossed paths again.
Ron was astonished by his incredible luck, being saved at the last possible moment.
The others, however, were mostly dumbfounded by Vikram’s gear.
“Brother Vikram… Brother Vikram, did you save me?” Ron, who had just narrowly escaped death, still had a look of lingering fear in his eyes.
“Of course! My shelter doesn’t recruit dead people. You’ve just agreed to join my Shelter with such difficulty, so no matter what, I have to put some effort in, right?”
Vikram squinted his eyes, forcing a bright smile and showing off his white teeth, hoping to leave a good impression on these new members.
However, the blood splattered on his face from killing zombies made him look a bit unapproachable; his blood-red face combined with that smile was somewhat unsettling.
But unsettling as it was, it didn’t stop the five of them from casting grateful glances his way.
If Vikram hadn’t acted fast enough to draw away so many zombies, they would all have certainly died today.
Feeling a little uncomfortable with people constantly staring at him, Vikram waved his hand.
“Alright, save the thanks for later. There are still a few zombies to clean up. Let’s get down to business first.”
With that, Vikram and his two companions slowly got out of the car.
A total of one machine gun and three pistols; dozens of zombies had died under such firepower just now.
The remaining less than ten stragglers were even less of a challenge.
In less than half a minute, the three of them worked together to eliminate the last threat. He didn’t use his Druids again, because he also wants to train his wives. When he is not here, they should be able to fight the Zombies.
After clearing out the zombies, Vikram looked at the group again.
Unlike before, when he had merely glanced, this time he used the system’s analysis.
“Name: Harry Potter, Strength: 36, Speed: 37, Stamina: 37, Reaction: 36”
“Name: Ron Weasley, Strength: 41, Speed: 40, Stamina: 41, Reaction: 39”
“Name: Draco Malfoy, Strength: 39, Speed: 41, Stamina: 39, Reaction: 40”
“Name: Percy Weasley, Strength: 37, Speed: 36, Stamina: 34, Reaction: 36”
“Name: Ginny Potter, Strength: 28, Speed: 30, Stamina: 29, Reaction: 30”
“Hiss!” Seeing these stats, Vikram gasped.
Looking at the five people standing there, his eyes immediately lit up.
