Chapter 1363: The Event Where I Fight Seriously
I moved towards the field on my own, joining the crowd that were gathered there for the combat event.
At this point, most of the people around weren’t paying much attention to me though I figured that it was more because they didn’t recognise me.
Most of them were gathered around a table with a female Mahun seated behind it which I assumed was where the contestants would register to participate in it.
I joined the line and wondered if they really placed one person here to handle the registration of all the people around here.
Still… The line moved relatively quickly and it was soon my turn and the person spoke without looking up at me.
“Number?”
I blinked at her, completely not expecting that question.
I mean… I was expecting her to ask for my name or something but what did she mean by number?
I tilted my head at her, “Number? Err… Sorry but… I don’t know what you’re talking about?”
The woman clucked her tongue but still did not look up, “Your number. The participation number. You should have been given one if you actually signed up for this event.”
“Err… Sorry, but I was not given one.”
The woman became visibly upset and looked up to growl at me, only to freeze up when she saw my face.
“A… Aster?”
I tilted my head, “Yes… But do I know you?”
“Umm… No, boss… Err… Sorry!! Please forgive me! I will sign you in right away!”
Boss? Oh… She must be a staff member under Emilia’s employ.
I knew it… She not only took over the village at the side, she also took over the entire arena too…
She quickly checked off something on the paper in front of her and I was directed towards the very edge of the field where a few other staff members seemed to be stationed.
I only knew they were staff members because they were all wearing the same uniform as the one that was seated at the table.
I also noted that was also the only spot that was devoid of any other contestant and I have a feeling I know why.
When I reached there, the staff members immediately tensed up when they saw me, one of the female Amraps quickly coming forward to give me a slight bow.
“Lady Aster… It is an honour to meet you here. I believe you are looking to participate in the combat event?”
I nodded, “That’s right. So… What’s the plan here?”
She straightened herself, “It is fairly simple, Lady Aster. This is an event where participants are allowed to use their full strength to fight against their opponents without holding anything back. The winner will be the one who is left standing at the very end.”
I pursed my lips, “I assume that there is some kind of enchantment that prevents people from dying during this event?”
She nodded, “That is the case, Lady Aster. We have specifically approached the Nilm Family themselves to provide us with the enchantment so there is no need to worry about any casualties. So please feel free to go all out and show off your strength.”
Oh? I didn’t even know Mother was involved in this.
But now that I know that she had enchanted this place, I would be less worried about going too overboard.
“So… How does the fight work?”
“It’s a free for all, Lady Aster. Everyone would be fighting each other within the designated space.”
“And how big is the space?”
“The entire field, Lady Aster.”
I turned to look back at the arena, realising the others were already working on clearing out the rest of the space to prepare for this event.
This event is really that big, huh?
I’m guessing that the other events will only continue after our event was finished, because I know for a fact that there’s supposed to be more events after this…
Partially because Ira and Tsara have yet to participate…
As though reading my mind, the Amrap staff spoke up again, “Ahem… Lady Aster… There’s only this many people today because they know they are going to fight you… On normal days… Half of the field is generally enough to accommodate everyone.”
Huh… I see…
My gaze drifted back towards the crowd and I only just realised that everyone there was basically an opponent I would be facing.
“If I may add, Lady Aster…” She continued, prompting me to turn back to her. “Even though it’s meant to be a battle royale… I am quite confident that it would turn into a group battle where everyone would be targeting you exclusively…”
“Ah… Well… I was actually already expecting something like that…” I admitted with a wry smile.
“As expected of Lady Aster. In that case, I wish you luck and don’t hold back in this fight.”
I was going to thank her until I saw her strip off her top, exposing her bare chest before she stepped out of her pants as well.
What the heck are you doing?!!
At least she was still wearing shorts underneath so she wasn’t completely naked… But that didn’t really make it any better.
Then I noticed that all the staff members behind her were also taking off their uniforms, only to reveal weapons and equipment underneath.
They then took out some badges with numbers printed on them to attach to their clothes and I realised those must be the numbers that the staff wanted from me earlier. Which also means… These people are also participants?!
So they also let staff members participate… Alright then…
As though on cue a figure leapt out onto the middle of the field and smashed their fists together, sending a loud ’bang’ reverberating through the area and catching everyone’s attention.
Wait a minute… That’s Odeta!
“Wahahaha!! Hello everyone!! We all know why you’re all here!! All of you want the honour of challenging my beloved Sister Aster and watching her fight, right?!!”
Everyone within the arena cheered, their voices sounding like a thunderclap with how loud they were.
Odeta swept her hand towards our direction, “Everyone over there will be fighting for their life in this final event for the biggest competition we’ve ever had here!! My beloved Sister Aster!! She will be the one to crush them all!! So all of us are here to watch that happen!!”
Wait, wait, wait… Why are you even talking like it’s a given that everyone else is going to lose?
Not that I have any intention to lose to begin with but seeing that you are the announcer… You should at least be impartial in this event, right?
Unexpectedly, the other contestants laughed at her words before letting out another cheer as though her words only spurred them on even more.
Odeta turned towards us with a big grin on her face, “Now!! May I present to you… Sister Aster, the Invincible!!!”
Cheers erupted throughout the field as people clapped and stomped their feet, all of them looking in my direction.
I realised that Odeta wanted me to step forward so I started walking towards her until I was standing beside her.
On the way there, however, I did hear some people whispering to their friends.
“That’s the supposed invincible Aster?”
“Apparently… She’s shorter than I thought…”
“She doesn’t actually look that strong… Are you sure this isn’t a mistake?”
“Maybe she tricked Odeta? Probably making use of some illusion or something to make her believe that she’s stronger?”
“Damn… I better go make another bet then…”
I stopped beside Odeta who was still grinning at me before she turned back towards the crowd and gestured towards me.
“Remember her!! Sister Aster, the Invincible!! The one who brought down a dragon with her own two hands when she was only just a baby!!”
Ok… First of all… I wasn’t a baby, ok? I was a child at the very least so that baby part isn’t true…
Odeta then punched her fist up into the air, “Are we ready for this?! The battle of the century is here!! The biggest fight this arena has ever seen!!”
Another cheer went up into the air and I guess that was the sign for us to get ready for the fight.
I was ushered towards the other end where I faced against the entire hoard of competitors who were obviously aiming to beat me.
So much for this being a battle royale…
I’m going to be honest, girls… If it’s a one on one, I think I would still stand a chance even if I had to fight all of them one after the other…
But if I have to fight against so many of them and all at the same time… I don’t think I can actually do it…
I’m already thinking that I would probably just struggle for a little bit before I eventually get myself beaten by one of them and that would be it.
Right then, Odeta turned and gestured towards the spectator box where my girls were seated, prompting all of them to wave at the crowd.
“By the way! The winner… The last one standing in this event… Will get to go on a date with all the lovely sisters over there at the best sweets shop in town!!!!”
…
…
I’M GOING TO BEAT ALL OF YOU!!!
