Chapter 1939: Chapter 1939

Chen Yirou slightly tugged at her lips, pulled her hand away, and hummed: "Don’t flatter me. I’m busy enough with work as it is, I don’t have time to run around with you."

Song Guanchao took her hand again: "How is this running around? You’re the director of the provincial investment promotion department, if you lend a hand and the investment really succeeds, you’ll have credit too."

"And..."

He paused and said, "When the city establishes a new venture capital company, you can also buy shares."

Chen Yirou’s eyes flickered slightly, coincidentally meeting his gaze. Those words carried a hint of persuasion.

There’s no doubt that this proposal successfully piqued her interest.

If she could hold a certain share in the venture capital company, it would be like having a goose that lays golden eggs.

The venture capital company would have the nature of a state-owned enterprise, backed by the City Government.

With the City Government as support, the venture capital company could directly call on the City Government’s staff when finding projects.

The most profitable ventures are never those with the highest returns, but the rule makers.

While a venture capital company can’t reach the heights of a rule maker, it’s still a rare opportunity.

Chen Yirou once again pulled her hand away and looked at him seriously: "How sure are you about convincing Mayor Wu to establish a new venture capital company?"

Since Song Guanchao is discussing this matter with her, she focuses on business and wants to confirm everything that needs to be confirmed.

"One hundred percent." Song Guanchao looked serious, but his answer was hard for Chen Yirou to believe.

It’s not that she doesn’t believe in him, but his words seem too definitive.

As a civil servant in the investment promotion department, she’s more aware than most of the difficulties in establishing another venture capital company when one already exists.

"You don’t need to doubt my words. When I say one hundred percent, I mean one hundred percent," Song Guanchao repeated.

Chen Yirou remained silent for a few seconds and said, "I’ll trust you this time."

Song Guanchao smiled and said, "These past two days, I’ve been hosting a foreign company’s inspection team. We can approach this coffee brand next week."

"Next week?" Chen Yirou chuckled a bit helplessly: "Aren’t you a bit too relaxed? If Starbucks has already approached them, by the time you go next week, you might not even get a taste."

"What do you mean?"

"We should leave now."

"Now?" Song Guanchao was taken aback: "Isn’t that a bit too hasty?"

Chen Yirou snapped: "A coffee brand with such potential needs to be acquired quickly! You need to seize it before other investors react! Also, didn’t you want to establish the venture capital company? This is something you can talk to Mayor Wu about right now."

"Approaching the coffee shop and establishing the venture capital company, you need to do both simultaneously. As soon as the coffee shop is negotiated, immediately invest through the venture capital company. Don’t waste a second; sign the contract first."

Song Guanchao tapped his phone, waking the screen, and checked the date. Sam’s executives had just arrived today, and he had already scheduled to accompany them for an inspection tomorrow.

If he were to leave now...

"Do you have something to handle?" Seeing his expression, Chen Yirou guessed he had unfinished business at hand, likely something important.

Song Guanchao replied, "Sam’s executives just arrived today, and we have an inspection scheduled for tomorrow."

"Sam?" Chen Yirou was surprised: "I heard Walmart Group rejected you?"

"That’s just a rumor spread by ill-intentioned people."

"I never realized you have quite a knack for attracting investments," complimented Chen Yirou earnestly. "Leave the inspection work to others. They’re already here, and they won’t miss you anyway."

"Alright." Song Guanchao didn’t overthink it: "Send me your ID number, I’ll book the tickets. You go pack up your things, and I’ll finish up here and come pick you up."

"Okay." Chen Yirou stood up and, as she was leaving, asked: "You still remember where I live, right?"

Song Guanchao looked up and caught a trace of barely noticeable anticipation in her shy eyes. With a light smile, he said: "Turn on the hot water, I’ll take a shower at your place before we go."

"Ugh." With a light scoff, Chen Yirou turned and left. Song Guanchao noticed that the tips of her ears had turned visibly red.

He turned the computer screen around, forwarding the emails to his phone, then shut down the computer and gathered his personal items.

Scanning the cluttered desk, he didn’t bother to tidy up and walked out the door, heading towards the elevator.

"Director Song." Shu Xue blinked; Song Guanchao had been frequenting Mayor Wu’s office more and more these days.

"I’m just going to speak with the Mayor about something, no need for tea."

Song Guanchao smiled at her, knocked on the door twice, and only pushed it open after hearing Wu Qiangwei’s voice.

He told her about the discussion with Chen Yirou and then informed her that he would soon leave on a business trip with Chen Yirou.

"Chen Yirou?"

"She’s the director of the office under the provincial investment promotion committee, and we were classmates at the party school." Song Guanchao wore a calm expression, but inside he was mentally complaining: I said so much, and that’s all you remember?

He didn’t know what to say, but once the urge to complain passed, he suddenly realized that considering it from a male-female perspective wasn’t unfounded...

Especially since he did have an affair with Chen Yirou.

But no one else knew about it — he wouldn’t say, and neither would Chen Yirou. No one could find out.

Wu Qiangwei observed him with a few glances, catching a hint of exasperation in his eyes, and suddenly felt somewhat annoyed, her mood turning unpleasant.

This jerk thought she was being unreasonable?

"Off you go. I’ll handle Sam’s visit," Wu Qiangwei’s tone turned noticeably colder as she spoke, then she looked down and picked up some documents.

Song Guanchao sighed inwardly. I didn’t say anything; how did it come to this?

He always thought Wu Qiangwei was mature and steady, different from those flamboyant and petty schemers.

But why did she suddenly join their ranks?

Song Guanchao shook his head subtly, pressed down on the handrail, and stood up slowly.

Wu Qiangwei, pretending to read documents, dimmed her gaze slightly.

At that moment, she suddenly noticed Song Guanchao had somehow come around to her side of the desk, standing behind her, with his hands resting on her shoulders.

She looked up, just about to ask, but Song Guanchao happened to be leaning down.

So her actions seemed like she was voluntarily offering her lips, pressing them onto his.

Her pupils contracted slightly, and in the next moment, Song Guanchao’s tongue slipped in.

The hands on her shoulders slid smoothly down her neckline, grabbing hold.

Her body trembled, the file in her hand fell to the desk, and her curling eyelashes fluttered.

Song Guanchao pulled the chair back, wrapped an arm around her waist, lifting her from the chair, and gently placed her on the desk.

Then he stepped forward half a step, using his body to spread her legs, one hand around her waist and the other caressing her hair, kissing her passionately.

A few minutes later, Song Guanchao withdrew his tongue, and Wu Qiangwei looked at him with dazed eyes.

Seeing him smiling at her, she inexplicably felt a flicker of anger and pushed him forcefully.

Song Guanchao caught her hands, pressing her palms against his chest, kissing her again without saying a word.

Wu Qiangwei patted his shoulder softly twice, but ultimately succumbed to his tender, affectionate kisses.
