Chapter 1943: Chapter 1943

Rao Yinyin listened to his words, and the anxiety of the whole night finally settled a little.

So, she recounted the entire process of what happened to Director Ma.

Director Ma listened patiently without interrupting.

When she finished, Director Ma smiled and said, "This guy seems to be a habitual offender. Mr. Rao, don’t worry, you won’t face any punishment for this matter. On the contrary, this guy is threatening you with this kind of thing, which already violates the criminal law."

However, Rao Yinyin didn’t relax after hearing this and remained tense.

Director Ma guessed she might be hiding something and asked, "Mr. Rao, is there anything else you left out? Rest assured, this conversation will not be leaked. You can speak freely."

Rao Yinyin hesitated for a long time but eventually confessed.

"He knows my identity."

"What?"

Director Ma didn’t immediately understand what she meant.

Rao Yinyin said, "He knows my surname is Rao and knows my job. He came for me specifically."

Director Ma’s expression instantly became serious: "Anything else?"

"He... said he recorded what happened tonight." Rao Yinyin blushed and lowered her head.

"Don’t worry, Mr. Rao. I’ll immediately arrange for the police to check the hotel room and also check his phone. If he did record any inappropriate videos of you, we will confiscate and charge him."

"Thank you."

"You’re welcome, Mr. Rao. Let me take you back to rest first."

"Okay."

Leaving the office, Director Ma called Zhang Changjun over, gave a few instructions, and then left with her.

Fifteen minutes later, he personally escorted Rao Yinyin to the guest house.

Wang Xiaowu, sitting at the front desk, saw them coming and quickly came up: "Mr. Rao, finally you’re back."

Rao Yinyin’s expression was a bit unnatural, and Director Ma said beside her: "Mr. Rao’s phone was stolen during dinner tonight, and there were some business secrets in it, which caused the delay."

Rao Yinyin cast a grateful glance at Director Ma.

After all, the reason she was taken to the police station was somewhat disgraceful.

Though she was open-minded about relationships, that didn’t mean she could endure gossip.

"Rest early, Mr. Rao."

Director Ma returned to the car and immediately called Song Guanchao.

It was already past four in the morning, and Song Guanchao was still awake.

Hearing about Rao Yinyin’s situation, Song Guanchao knew that his guess was correct.

He was indeed set up.

As for who did it... there’s no need to ask!

It was none other than Wei Zejun!

Song Guanchao couldn’t help but suspect that the coffee shop’s situation was deliberately exaggerated by Wei Zejun just to lure him out of Jiangzhou.

He thought for a while but still decided to go there tomorrow since he was already here.

Moreover, the problem on Rao Yinyin’s side was temporarily resolved.

He tossed his phone aside and went to sleep.

After sleeping for five or six hours, he got up.

First, he called Wu Qiangwei, told her about last night’s events, and asked her to pay attention to Rao Yinyin’s safety and find a way to comfort her.

Although the matter was resolved, whether it would affect Rao Yinyin’s view of Jiangzhou City was hard to say.

As long as she wasn’t a fool, she would surely guess that the purpose wasn’t her, but to undermine this investment.

"I’ll go meet the coffee shop’s founding team later and try to return early. I’ll handle this matter when I get back."

Wu Qiangwei really wanted to advise him not to sour relations with Wei Zejun, but this time, the other party really went too far.

However, the more excessive the other party behaved, the more she felt something was amiss.

"Identify who did it first."

Song Guanchao didn’t think it was necessary but didn’t want to argue with her over the phone, so he just hummed and hung up.

He went to the next room, took out a room card, and swiped it to enter.

Chen Yirou had just finished freshening up and changing clothes.

"Aren’t you going to sleep a bit more?" Chen Yirou said, "You have dark circles."

"I slept well, let’s go."

Song Guanchao didn’t show any negative emotions in front of her and left the hotel with her, smiling.

At half-past ten in the morning, they arrived at Xuefu Coffee’s company headquarters.

The company wasn’t large, only slightly over two hundred square meters, but there were plenty of employees, and all were busy.

The large office was filled with the sounds of employees making phone calls.

"Sorry, our President Hu doesn’t have time this morning," the woman in charge of reception at the front desk said, looking up from the appointment schedule.

Song Guanchao asked, "What about in the afternoon?"

"President Hu has other arrangements in the afternoon, the soonest you’d be able to meet is next Wednesday."

Song Guanchao and Chen Yirou exchanged a glance, seeing the surprise in each other’s eyes.

The head of this company wasn’t just extremely busy.

It’s unclear whether it’s genuinely busy or a deliberately created fa?ade.

Chen Yirou smiled and said, "I’m the head of Nanjiang Province’s Investment Promotion Department, and this is the Director of the Jiangzhou Municipal Government’s Office. Please convey to President Hu that we’d like to talk with him for about ten minutes."

It seemed their statuses worked, as the receptionist said, "Please wait a moment while I ask President Hu."

She walked briskly into the company in her flat shoes.

About two minutes later, the receptionist returned: "Please follow me."

She led them into a small reception room and poured them tea: "Please wait a moment; President Hu will see you once he finishes his current task."

"Okay, thank you."

They weren’t acting haughty; as long as the coffee shop was as described in the email, waiting a bit longer was okay.

What worried Song Guanchao now was whether the information about the coffee shop was false and that all this was just to lure him out of Jiangzhou City.

After about twenty minutes, the receptionist opened the door: "Sorry to keep you waiting, President Hu has finished his task. Please follow me."

They came to an office, and the receptionist knocked and pushed the door open.

The office was about twenty square meters, with one desk, a few sofas, and a coffee table with an ashtray filled with cigarette butts.

The open floor-to-ceiling windows allowed the wind to carry the smoke smell away.

President Hu was young, about thirty, around 1.78 meters tall, with a slim build. Wearing dress pants and a dark shirt, he looked more like a teacher than an entrepreneur.

"Hello, President Hu," Chen Yirou introduced herself.

President Hu shook hands with the two of them and invited them to sit on the sofa.

Perhaps the ashtray was really too full, so when the receptionist brought over tea, he said, "Change the ashtray."

The receptionist took the ashtray out and soon returned with a clean one.

President Hu took out a cigarette to light, but seeing there was a lady present, he refrained from smoking.

"Director Chen, are you looking to invest in our company?" President Hu spoke directly, without any beating around the bush.

Chen Yirou nodded: "We believe President Hu’s coffee brand has great investment potential, so we came to evaluate it."

President Hu asked, "How much can you invest?"

Chen Yirou’s expression remained unchanged, but those familiar with her, like Song Guanchao, noticed her dislike for President Hu’s way of asking.

Though Song Guanchao hadn’t led many investments himself, he also thought President Hu’s question was problematic.

They had said they were there to evaluate, not knowing much yet, and then asking how much they could invest.

Sounded like a scammer.
