On a Stormy Night, the Campus Belle Knocked on My Door Seeking Shelter
Chapter 307: I Only Like to Dance by Your Side
Soon, Su Yuqing completely let go.
Her initial shyness was replaced by excitement.
Though her dancing was far from professional, even a bit childishly clumsy, the joy of her complete immersion and the glow that came from letting herself go made her especially captivating under the psychedelic lights.
She no longer cared about what others thought, simply losing herself in the music and the intimate atmosphere of dancing with Chen Mo.
Sweat dampened the stray hairs at her temples. Her cheeks were flushed, her beautiful, large eyes were always on Chen Mo, and a genuine, brilliant smile never left her lips.
After one of Chen Mo’s cool turns, she even grew bold enough to move in closer, gently placing her hands on his shoulders and swaying to his rhythm.
Chen Mo took the opportunity to wrap his arm around her waist. At the edge of the dance floor, they formed a small, intimate space that belonged only to them.
The powerful music, the dazzling lights, and the surging crowd all faded into the background.
In their world, all that remained were the lights reflected in each other’s eyes and the harmonious rhythm of their bodies moving as one.
When the song ended and a slower interlude began, Su Yuqing was breathing lightly, with tiny beads of sweat on her forehead. She looked a little tired, but when she looked up at Chen Mo, her eyes were as bright as if they held all the lights of the nightclub, her smile so radiant it could dispel any darkness.
It was clear she was enjoying herself immensely.
“How do you feel?” Chen Mo asked with a smile, looking down as he gently brushed a strand of hair from her cheek.
“It’s so loud…” Su Yuqing replied, but then her smile grew even wider. She squeezed his hand tightly, her voice filled with an unprecedented excitement. “But… this is so much fun! So liberating! So… this is what dancing feels like!”
Nearby, Chen Xi had been watching them dance together for a while now, a knowing smile spreading across her face.
She recalled how she had been the one to guide Chen Miao in dancing back then. Chen Mo and Su Yuqing were like a gender-swapped version of them.
Back then, Chen Miao had just been a bookworm who didn’t know the first thing about nightclubs or dancing.
He had been nothing but nervous after arriving at the club, but with Chen Xi’s guidance, he, like Su Yuqing now, had discovered the unique joy this new experience brought.
“We can try this more often if we get the chance. If you like it, signing up for a dance class would be nice too,” Chen Mo said, smiling at Su Yuqing.
Hearing this, Su Yuqing paused. She stood on her tiptoes, leaned close to his ear, and added with an affection so thick it was almost tangible, “I only like dancing like this when I’m with you!”
In that instant, Chen Mo’s heart was completely filled by her words and her smile.
He tightened his arm around her waist and, amidst the dazzling, chaotic lights and clamorous rhythm of the nightclub, he lowered his head and placed a cherished kiss on her forehead.
The end of this birthday night—amidst the deafening electronic music, under the dazzling, psychedelic lights, and within the packed, oblivious crowd—was branded as a unique, heart-pounding, and sweet memory, all because of the girl in his arms and her confession: “I only like dancing when I’m with you.”
As the last heavy beat of the final high-energy dance track faded, replaced by a relatively mellow transitional tune, the atmosphere in the entire nightclub seemed to cool down from its boiling climax.
The lights were no longer cutting through the dark so frantically, and the movements of the crowd became more languid and relaxed.
Chen Mo led a slightly breathless Su Yuqing, her forehead damp with sweat but her smile radiant, back to their booth.
Grandpa and Grandma were already back in their seats, sipping from glasses of water. Their faces showed a mix of satisfaction after the novel experience and a trace of fatigue, but their eyes were sparkling. Clearly, tonight had been a rare adventure for them as well.
Chen Xi, on the other hand, was full of energy, talking animatedly with Zhou Hao, Lin Yu’an, Huang Mao, and Zhao Yuanyuan, who were all equally drenched in sweat and flushed with excitement.
“So, did our birthday boy have fun dancing?” Chen Xi asked as soon as she saw them return, a teasing smile on her face. Her gaze swept over Chen Mo’s hand on Su Yuqing’s waist and their flushed faces.
“It was great, thanks, Mom,” Chen Mo replied with a frank smile. He helped Su Yuqing sit down and thoughtfully poured her a glass of warm water.
“And what about you, Qingqing?” Chen Xi asked, turning to Su Yuqing with a smile.
Su Yuqing took the glass and took a small sip. The blush hadn’t completely faded from her cheeks, and her eyes were still sparkling. She nodded. “Yes, it was so new and interesting! Thank you for bringing us here, Auntie. It was a very… special experience!”
Her voice carried a slight breathlessness from the exertion and the lingering excitement.
“As long as you had fun! A coming-of-age party is supposed to have some special fireworks!” Chen Xi waved her hand triumphantly, then looked at the slightly weary Grandpa and Grandma and the young people who had had their fill of fun but also used up a lot of energy. “It’s getting late. Let’s call the second half of this birthday party a resounding success! Time to head home?”
Everyone nodded in agreement.
Grandpa and Grandma let out a sigh of relief, smiling as they agreed it was indeed time to go back and rest.
Zhou Hao smacked his lips, clearly not having had his fill. Lin Yu’an was happy to go with the flow. Huang Mao and Zhao Yuanyuan exchanged a smile, a sense of mutual understanding and closeness in their eyes after sharing such a novel experience.
The atmosphere in the car on the way back was relaxed and warm.
Su Yuqing leaned against Chen Mo’s shoulder. Her body felt a little weak from the exhaustion of dancing, but her mind was still buzzing with energy. She was replaying the deafening music, the psychedelic lights, and that heart-pounding feeling of dancing with Chen Mo when it seemed like they were the only two people in the world.
Chen Mo held her hand, gently stroking the back of it with his thumb, feeling the slight coolness of her fingertips and her reliance on him.
He watched the city’s neon lights streak past the car window, his heart filled with an immense sense of satisfaction.
This birthday—from Su Yuqing’s surprise gift and heartfelt confession in the morning, to the lively and warm gathering of family and friends, and then the sweet experience of dancing together at the club—every moment had been filled with love and joy, more perfect than he could have ever imagined.
He now understood exactly what his mother meant when she said it was “the happiest of days.”
After returning home and seeing everyone off, only Chen Mo, Su Yuqing, and Chen Xi were left in the living room.
Chen Xi looked at the two of them standing side by side, still enveloped in a sweet atmosphere, her eyes filled with gratification and emotion.
She walked up, wrapped an arm around each of them, and pulled them into a tight hug. A gentle smile on her face, her gaze shifted between the two of them. “Seeing you two like this now… it’s just so good.”
“Alright, alright, that’s enough sentimental stuff. You’ve all had a long day, so go wash up and get some sleep.” Chen Xi reverted to her usual carefree manner, waving her hand. “I have to go. Your father is getting impatient.”
Chen Mo and Su Yuqing were both taken aback.
They knew Chen Xi was busy, but they hadn’t expected her to have to leave so soon again.
It was only now that Su Yuqing truly began to understand the emotional weight behind Chen Mo’s childhood words—that he didn’t cry even when his parents weren’t around. It really wasn’t easy for Chen Mo to get more time with his parents.
