One Piece: Digivolving Destiny
Chapter 120: Summary: Escalation and Evolution
The thick, neon-green fog rolling out of the tree line twisted the jungle into obscurity.
The horrifying, bone-cracking sounds of rapid mutation ceased, replaced by deep, wet, guttural roars that shook the roots of the Giant Jack. As the chemical cloud parted, the terrified Skypiean and Shandian militia took an involuntary step back.
Dr. Indigo and his remaining two dozen mercenaries had transformed into towering, grotesque chimeras of bulging muscle, jagged bone plating, and fused chemical vats. Their veins pulsed with sickly green bioluminescence, and their eyes were completely devoid of sanity. The unrefined IQ pathogen had turned them into mindless, hyper-aggressive Kaijus.
With a unified, deafening screech, the bio-weapons charged the barricades.
“Don’t let them breach the line!” Wyper shouted, raising his overheated Flame Gun.
“Save your ammunition!” Law’s voice cut through the panic. The Surgeon of Death stood on a high root, his nodachi drawn, a massive blue Room already expanding over the entire vanguard. “We handle the freaks.”
Before the closest mutant mercenary could bring its massive, bone-plated fist down on the barricades, two blurs of motion darted past the defenders.
Shachi and Penguin moved in perfect synchronization. Sliding under the beast’s guard, Shachi’s blades sliced cleanly through the monster’s left Achilles tendon, while Penguin vault-kicked off a root to slash a deep, blinding arc across the creature’s glowing eyes.
The beast shrieked, stumbling blindly.
Bepo roared, launching himself from the barricade. The polar bear mink spun in mid-air, delivering a devastating, high-velocity spinning heel kick directly to the mutant’s jaw. The sheer kinetic force snapped the beast’s neck, sending it crashing into the dirt.
The remaning crew didn’t give the Kaijus a second to breathe.
A second mutant lunged forward, jaws snapping shut. Gwen swung down from the canopy on a line of black webbing. She fired two thick, dense streams of symbiote webbing, entirely encasing the creature’s arms and pinning them to its torso.
“Batter up!” Maria yelled, sprinting past Gwen. Her Garuda shield shifted into its heavy club form. Channeling the raw, explosive leg strength of her Ulti-Zoan body, combined with Garuda’s ability Star Rage, Maria leaped and brought the Virtually-charged club directly down on the webbed mutant’s skull, cratering the beast into the bedrock.
Three more mutants tried to flank them, only to run into a devastating wall of pressurized water. Koala pivoted on her heel, and executed a Fish-Man Karate shockwave that blasted the beasts backward into Law’s waiting domain.
“Amputate,” Law muttered smoothly, a flurry of invisible surgical strikes separating the three beasts into dozens of harmless, twitching segments.
The mercenary mutants were locked down and dismantled in less than thirty seconds.
The only one remaining was their leader.
Towering over the battlefield, the mutated form of Dr. Indigo let out a deafening roar. His body was a horrific amalgamation of muscle and shattered glass vials, leaking corrosive green gas from his pores. He locked his glowing eyes on the barricades and charged, his footsteps cracking the earth.
Jacob stepped out from the line, cracking his knuckles. “I’ve got the doctor.”
Jacob took a boxer’s stance, His shoulders popped and shifted, revealing the hidden, double-jointed anatomy of the Longarm Tribe. His arms folded inward, coiling like massive, fleshy springs.
He raised his hands, the magical, star-patterned gauntlets gleaming in the ambient light.
The mutated Indigo swung a massive, clawed hand, attempting to crush Jacob into paste.
Jacob triggered his double elbows, launching his fist forward with explosive, unnatural propulsion. He dodged the heavy swing by a fraction of an inch and buried his right gauntlet directly into Indigo’s ribs.
One.
The first hit of the Star Combo hit with the force of a heavy sledgehammer, staggering the giant beast.
Indigo roared, spewing a cloud of corrosive gas. Jacob ducked under it, his left arm snapping out like a whip.
Two.
Three.
Jacob’s fists became a blur of extending and folding joints. With every consecutive, uninterrupted strike, the magical property of the gauntlets activated. The weight behind his punches exponentially multiplied.
The fourth hit cracked Indigo’s bone plating.
The fifth hit landed on the beast’s knee with the impact of a fired cannonball, buckling the massive leg.
Six. Seven. Eight.
Indigo thrashed wildly, regenerating his torn muscle tissue through the pathogen’s supported healing, but he couldn’t escape the barrage. Jacob was relentless, his footwork keeping him perfectly inside the monster’s guard, his Longarm anatomy allowing him to generate terrifying velocity from zero distance.
Nine.
The ninth punch struck Indigo’s chest with the weight of a falling galleon. The colossal Kaiju was literally lifted off its feet, its ribs shattering inward, blood spraying from its maw.
“Goodnight, Doc,” Jacob gritted his teeth, dropping his center of gravity.
Ten.
Jacob uncoiled his right arm, driving a devastating, apocalyptic uppercut directly under Indigo’s jaw. The sheer, multiplied mass of the tenth Star Combo strike launched the massive mutant twenty feet into the air, completely shattering its jawbone and sending a shockwave through the clearing that parted the jungle mist.
But Jacob wasn’t finished.
As the massive, broken Kaiju hung suspended in the air, Jacob lowered his gauntlets and snapped his fingers.
Twin Impact.
Ten specific points of contact across Indigo’s massive body, every single place Jacob’s Star Combo had landed, suddenly flared with violent, blue kinetic energy.
The secondary impacts detonated simultaneously. The delayed shockwaves exploded inward. The sheer, compounding internal destruction overwhelmed the pathogen’s regenerative abilities. The mutated beast’s body violently tore itself apart from the inside out, dropping to the dirt in a lifeless, steaming heap.
Jacob exhaled a long breath, his arms folding back into their standard human appearance.
Behind him, the unified Skypiean and Shandian militia lowered their weapons. The jungle was silent. The ground war was officially over.
High above the jungle, deep within the dark, metallic bowels of Shiki’s floating fortress, Laura’s adamantium claws slid through a heavy iron deadbolt with a sharp screech of shearing metal.
She kicked the reinforced door open. Inside the damp cell, a dozen emaciated Skypiean slaves huddled together in terror, their wings clipped and their bodies bruised.
“This seems to be the last cell with them, let’s get them out of here, Gamma,” Laura said over her shoulder, retracting her claws. She looked at the terrified prisoners. “Come on. The cages are open. We’re getting you out of here.”
Gammamon bounded into the room, his white horn glowing softly to light the cell. “Let’s go!”
The Skypieans, recognizing their last hope to freedom, frantically filed out of the cell. Laura led them down the winding stone corridors, stepping over the unconscious, battered bodies of pirate guards. The evacuation route was completely clear, courtesy of the manic, terrifying swarm of Mr. Meeseeks that were still cheerfully hunting down stragglers on the lower levels.
“Keep heading down this corridor until you see the blue guys,” Laura instructed the lead Skypiean, pointing toward the western exit bays. “They’ll secure you a ship.”
As the freed slaves rushed toward safety, Laura and Gammamon stepped out onto a massive, sweeping stone balcony to cover their retreat.
The balcony overlooked the fortress’s central courtyard.
Laura froze, her eyes widening at the absolute destruction below them. The plaza was unrecognizable. The bedrock had been completely pulverized, turned into a massive crater of molten glass and shattered stone.
In the center of the devastation, Golden Lion Shiki floated effortlessly in the air, his golden coat pristine, his legendary sword-legs gleaming without a single nick.
And standing below him, barely on his feet, was Ace.
The Fire Fist was a bloody mess. His torso was covered in deep, jagged lacerations from Shiki’s Haki-infused air slashes. He was panting heavily, his chest heaving, his left arm hanging limply at his side. He was completely outmatched by the veteran’s Devil fruit ability and swordsmanship.
Yet, Ace’s fists were still ignited. He stared up at the Golden Lion with a fierce, stubborn, blood-stained grin that absolutely refused to yield.
“You’re a stubborn brat,” Shiki’s voice carried up to the balcony, cold and absolute. “But the Will of D. alone doesn’t bridge the gap between a rookie and a ruler.”
Shiki raised his right leg, the pitch-black Armament Haki coating Oto as he prepared to deliver a fatal, decapitating flying slash.
Gammamon gripped the stone railing of the balcony. The little Digimon’s eyes widened, watching Ace struggle to raise his arms to block an attack that would undoubtedly kill him.
“Ace…” Gammamon whispered.
A fierce, overwhelming surge of protective emotion erupted from Gammamon’s digital core. The digital hazard symbol on Gammamon’s forehead suddenly flared with blinding, crimson light.
Laura took a step back as the air around the little dinosaur violently warped. A massive pillar of red and gold data cascaded down from the sky, engulfing Gammamon entirely. The sheer thermal energy radiating from the pillar began to melt the stone balcony.
The digital code rapidly expanded, rewriting and evolving his core structure. The small, quadrupedal form stretched and grew. Massive, muscular limbs formed. Thick, crimson scales materialized.
The pillar of light shattered like glass.
Standing on the balcony was no longer a small triceratops. Towering at over eight feet tall, a bipedal, heavily muscled crimson digimon let out a deafening, draconic roar that shook the floating island. The champion-level Digimon, BetelGammamon, flexed his massive claws, his body radiating waves of intense, localized heat.
Down in the courtyard, Shiki swung his leg, launching a massive, invisible blade of Haki directly at Ace’s neck.
BetelGammamon launched himself off the balcony, crossing the distance with explosive, terrifying speed.
He aimed directly for the Golden Lion. BetelGammamon pulled his massive, crimson fist back, his knuckles igniting with a compressed, blinding sphere of pure solar fire.
“Solis Golpe!”
BetelGammamon slammed his blazing fist directly into the flat side of Shiki’s crossed sword-legs.
The impact was catastrophic. A shockwave of fire and kinetic force erupted in mid-air, stopping Shiki’s descending air slash. The sheer, unexpected physical strength of the Champion-level Digimon sent the legendary pirate rocketing backward through the air, forcing Shiki to violently use his ability just to catch himself before crashing into a stone wall.
BetelGammamon landed heavily in the molten glass of the crater, placing his massive, crimson body squarely between the Golden Lion and the battered Fire Fist.
The red dragon looked over his shoulder, flashing Ace a fierce, fiery grin full of razor-sharp teeth.
“Tag out, Ace,” BetelGammamon’s voice was deeper, resonating with draconic power. “Catch your breath. I’m taking the next round.”
