One Piece: Digivolving Destiny

Chapter 72: The Azure Blood and the Lost Days

  • Next Chapter

The telepathic voice of the massive, three-headed Azure Dragon echoed smoothly within the minds of everyone standing on the ruined Great Lawn.

It was a voice that carried the weight of eons ancient, calm, and deeply profound.

“Mortals of this realm… and Sovereigns of the distant sea,” the dragon spoke, its deep sapphire eyes locking directly onto mine.

“For millennia, I was bound in chains of dark iron and corrupted fire.

You did not just break my master; you broke my cage.

I offer you my absolute gratitude.”

For a moment, nobody knew what to say.

Thor lowered Mjolnir respectfully, and Captain America stood at ease.

Then, Jasmine stepped forward, resting the heavy handle of her Coil Mjolnir over her shoulder.

She looked up at the towering leviathan and offered a cheerful, completely unabashed grin.

“Well, if you’re feeling grateful, big guy,” Jasmine projected her voice, entirely unbothered by the fact she was talking to a cosmic entity.

“Would you be willing to give my Captain a single drop of your blood?

It would help him forge a pretty amazing construct.”

The Avengers immediately tensed.

“Absolutely not!” Doctor Strange protested, stepping forward, his Cloak of Levitation bristling.

“You cannot be serious!

Giving a Warlord from another dimension the genetic and spiritual blueprint of an ancient cosmic leviathan?

That is a recipe for multiversal disaster!”

“I second the wizard,” Iron Man added, his faceplate snapping down.

“No offense, pirates, but giving you a pocket-sized Ghidorah feels like a terrible strategic move for everyone involved.”

The dragon ignored the heroes.

Its center head lowered until it was mere feet from Jasmine and me.

“A drop of blood to walk alongside the Sovereign who shattered my chains?

I am willing.”

“Hold on,” I said, raising a hand to stop the transaction.

I looked up at the dragon.

“I appreciate the tribute.

Truly.

But it’s useless right now.

My Jade Wings require an immense infusion of kinetic Fa-Jin energy to complete the initial genetic mapping and summoning process.

Given your sheer mass and cosmic density, the energy required to forge your clone would kill me in my current state.

I’m completely tapped out.”

The dragon’s eyes seemed to smile.

“If it is energy you require, Warlord, then I shall provide it,” the leviathan replied.

“My primary domain is not hellfire or lightning.

It is the absolute absorption, conversion, and transference of all forms of energy.”

Before the Avengers could protest again, the dragon exhaled a soft, concentrated stream of pure, blue flame that washed completely over me.

It didn’t burn.

It was incredibly cool, vibrating with raw, unfiltered cosmic power.

The energy flooded into my cellular structure, completely bypassing my physical limits and hyper-charging my internal reserves.

My muscles coiled tight as the sheer density of the transferred power threatened to overload my system.

“Stand back,” I warned Law and Jasmine.

I drew the Jade Wings, the indestructible blades gleaming in the starlight.

Before I could accept the dragon’s blood, I had to make a sacrifice.

The spiritual capacity required to hold an entity of this magnitude was immense.

I reached inward, plucking at the spiritual tether connecting me to one of my stored constructs.

“Release,” I commanded.

A pulse of green light erupted from the blades.

The jade construct of Pudding the clone I had utilized for her memory-manipulation capabilities materialized for a brief second before shattering into a cloud of sparkling, harmless emerald dust, her essence completely returning to the ether.

The slot was open.

The Azure Dragon didn’t hesitate.

It bit the edge of its own tongue.

A single, glowing sphere of pure blue, cosmic blood fell from its massive maw, landing perfectly onto the center of the dark jade blades.

The blades violently absorbed the blood.

I clamped my hands onto the hilts and fed the massive reservoir of cosmic energy the dragon had just given me directly into the weapon.

The park was bathed in blinding, emerald and sapphire light.

The earth shook violently as the green smoke poured from the blades, spiraling high into the night sky.

The smoke condensed, rapidly solidifying into a colossal, towering, three-headed dragon forged entirely from indestructible, dark green jade.

The Jade Azure Dragon spread its massive wings, letting out a roaring, three-toned cry that shattered the remaining glass in the surrounding blocks, before seamlessly dissolving back into the blades to rest.

The real Azure Dragon bowed its heads one final time.

“May your seas remain unconquered, Sovereign.” With a massive beat of its wings, the ancient leviathan took flight, shooting upward like a blue comet and disappearing into the starry expanse of the cosmos.

A few minutes later, the high-pitched whine of repulsor tech broke the silence.

A sleek, automated drone bearing the “4” logo of the Fantastic Four descended onto the grass, dropping a secure, shock-proof case into Tony Stark’s hands before flying off.

Stark punched a code into the keypad and opened the case.

He pulled out the silver, baseball-sized sphere and a heavy bandolier of Stark energy cells, tossing them directly to me.

“The fixed-point portal generator,” Tony said.

“Like I said, it won’t cross dimensions, but set two points in your world, and you’ve got an instant door.

I also had Reed throw in a little extra.” Tony pulled out a sleek, rectangular device that looked like a high-tech microwave.

“It’s a molecular food synthesizer.

Same tech they use on deep-space exploration ships like the Orville.

It rearranges matter to perfectly recreate any food or drink you ask it for.

Figured your ship’s cook might want a vacation.”

I inspected the portal sphere, tossing it lightly in my hand, then looked at the synthesizer.

“A machine that cooks anything.

The chef is either going to worship this or destroy it.

I appreciate the trade, Stark.”

I channeled the last of the Fa-Jin into my right hand.

Holding the brass Sling Ring that Strange had demanded, I squeezed.

The mystical metal groaned before completely shattering into fine brass dust, sifting through my fingers onto the grass.

Strange visibly relaxed, the tension finally leaving his shoulders.

“The Mystic Archives are blind to your world.

We are settled.”

The Sorcerer Supreme raised his hands, weaving a complex, sparking golden mandala.

The air in the center of the park tore open, revealing a massive, swirling orange gateway.

Through the portal, we didn’t see the apocalyptic skies of New York.

We saw the dark, quiet ocean, the salty sea breeze, and the massive, familiar wooden decks of the Titan’s Glory.

“Time to go,” I said, looking back at my crew.

Mayday ran forward, throwing her arms around my waist for one last, tearful hug.

Peter and MJ stood beside her, their faces filled with profound, eternal gratitude.

“You ever find yourself in our neck of the woods again, Warlord,” Spider-Man said, giving a two-finger salute, “the first round of pizza is on me.”

I nodded, returning the salute to the assembled Avengers.

At the edge of the portal, Laura and Gwen stood shoulder-to-shoulder.

Laura carried nothing but her survival instincts, her dark hair blowing in the portal’s wind.

Gwen had fully retracted her symbiote, looking nervously at the gateway.

They took a deep breath, leaving the shadow of the Weapon Plus program behind forever, and stepped through the rift alongside Law, Robin, and Jasmine.

I turned my back on the Marvel Universe and stepped through the golden door.

With a sharp crack, the portal snapped shut behind me, severing the dimensions.

The transition was instantaneous.

The smell of sulfur, ozone, and burning concrete was violently replaced by the overwhelming humidity and the rich, heavy scent of the Grand Line ocean.

My boots hit the solid Adam Wood decks of the Titan’s Glory.

Above us, the moon hung high and full in the night sky.

The ship was gently bobbing in a hidden inlet tucked securely near the Franky Family territory on the outskirts of Water 7.

It was incredibly peaceful.

No sirens, no demonic invasions, no crumbling skyscrapers.

Laura and Gwen immediately dropped to their knees, gasping as the heavy, oxygen-rich atmosphere of the One Piece world hit their lungs.

“Well, well, well!

Yohohoho!”

A cheerful, echoing laugh drifted down from the upper deck.

A tall, impeccably dressed skeleton wearing a top hat and holding a violin walked gracefully down the stairs, tipping his hat to the group.

Laura’s jaw dropped, her adamantium claws instinctively sliding out with a SNIKT.

Gwen stumbled backward, the symbiote rapidly pooling around her neck.

“What the hell is that?!”

“Relax, newbies,” Jasmine laughed, patting Gwen on the shoulder.

“That’s just Brook.

He’s a musician.”

“Ah, Captain!

Trafalgar, Robin, Jasmine!

Welcome back!” Brook cheered, adjusting his afro.

“And you brought guests!

How delightful!

I would offer to make tea, but I have no stomach to digest it!

Yohohoho!”

I cracked a smile, the sheer absurdity of my crew grounding me instantly.

“It’s good to be back, Brook.

How are things in Water 7?

Did we miss much while we were gone?”

Brook stopped playing his violin, tapping his chin thoughtfully with a skeletal finger.

“Miss much?

Well, I suppose that depends on your perspective, Captain!

The shipwrights have been making excellent progress on the fleet upgrades, and the crew has been enjoying a rather relaxing period of training here in the city.”

Law frowned, stepping forward.

“How long were we gone, Brook?”

“Oh, precisely four days!” Brook stated cheerily.

Robin raised an eyebrow, exchanging a look with Law.

“Four days?

But we were only in the other dimension for slightly over twenty-four hours.”

“Time dilation,” Law muttered, shaking his head.

“One day there equaled four days here.

We’re lucky we didn’t stay to sightsee, or we would have missed a season.”

I looked out over the quiet, sprawling canals of Water 7, the city sleeping peacefully under the moonlight.

We had a new portal system, a cosmic dragon resting in my blades, and two lethal new recruits from a shadow-war.

“Four days isn’t bad,” I said, breathing in the sea air.

“Get the recruits settled into their quarters.

Tomorrow, we get back to work.

The Grand Line isn’t going to conquer itself.”
