One Piece: Digivolving Destiny
Chapter 78: The Haki Bloom and the Pirates of Jaya
Three weeks.
For three brutal, agonizing weeks, the primal jungles of Goliath’s Rest had been an absolute meat grinder.
The survival team Law, Robin, Brook, Laura, Gwen, Perona, and the Heart Pirates’ Bepo, Penguin, and Shachi, were battered, bruised, and completely covered in dried mud and monster blood.
But as they stood in a dense clearing near the center of the island, the atmosphere around them had fundamentally shifted.
They were no longer panting, acting like prey trying to survive the Grand Line.
They stood back-to-back, breathing in controlled, rhythmic measures.
They had become the apex predators.
The jungle canopy shook.
Trees the size of watchtowers violently snapped and crashed to the ground as the island’s true rulers finally revealed themselves.
A pack of colossal, ancient Sabertooth Tigers surrounded the clearing.
These weren’t normal beasts, they were the size of galleons, their muscles coiled like steel springs, and their thick, matted fur naturally hardened by rudimentary, localized Armament Haki.
The Alpha tiger, bearing a massive scar across its eye, let out a deafening roar that sent a physical shockwave through the mud.
“Form up,” Law ordered calmly, his spotted hat pulled low, entirely unfazed by the wall of muscle surrounding them.
Suddenly, Gammamon trotted out from the underbrush, completely ignoring the massive, drooling tigers.
The little white dinosaur hopped onto a large boulder right at the edge of the clearing, unwrapped a chocolate bar, and took a happy bite.
“Hey guys!” Gammamon called out cheerfully, his mouth full.
“Victor told me to tell you something!
He said if you can’t beat these big kitties, it means you failed the survival test!”
Laura wiped a streak of blood from her cheek, her eyes narrowing.
“And?”
“And,” Gammamon smiled innocently, “that means you have to go back to the ship and restart the jungle drop and the nightmare training from Day One!
on a new island”
The collective reaction of the crew was immediate, absolute horror.
Penguin and Shachi visibly paled.
Brook’s jaw literally dropped to the floor.
Perona, who was hovering a few inches off the ground, her gothic dress ruined by mud, let out a horrified shriek.
Even Law’s stoic expression cracked into a look of profound, soul-deep dread.
The thought of repeating the last three weeks of unyielding hell was a fate infinitely worse than death.
“I am not going back to sleeping in the mud!” Perona yelled, aggressively pointing her parasol at the massive beasts.
“Kill them all,” Laura growled, her eyes flashing a vibrant, toxic green.
“Right now.”
The Alpha tiger lunged.
Laura also she exploded.
Drawing on the absolute limits of her endurance, she unleashed her Gamma mutation.
Her muscles rapidly expanded, her skin shifting to a deep, indestructible green as she hulked out into a towering, terrifying powerhouse.
She didn’t rely purely on her mutant strength, though.
She closed her eyes for a fraction of a second, her newly awakened Observation Haki perfectly tracking the Alpha’s trajectory.
She sidestepped the massive jaws by an inch.
With a visceral roar, she coated her fists and her extended adamantium claws in dense, pitch-black Armament Haki.
She drove her blackened claws directly into the tiger’s side, effortlessly shredding through its natural Haki defenses and burying the Alpha into the dirt.
Across the clearing, Gwen was like a phantom through the shadows.
She let her Observation Haki map the entire battlefield.
When two tigers swiped at her, she dodged the blindingly fast strikes by mere millimeters, refusing to waste a single movement.
Her symbiote tendrils shot forward, but instead of liquid webbing, she hardened the tips with jet-black Armament Haki, turning them into indestructible spears that pierced the beasts’ thick hides.
Law stood perfectly still in the center of the chaos.
He had blindfolded himself with a strip of torn fabric.
He refused to use his eyes anymore.
His massive blue Room enveloped the clearing, and his Observation Haki mapped every falling leaf, every drop of blood, and every muscle twitch within it.
“Shambles,” Law whispered.
He seamlessly swapped a charging tiger with a falling boulder, raising his Nodachi.
The blade turned pitch-black with Armament Haki, allowing him to slice cleanly through a beast whose natural armor had previously resisted his spatial cuts.
Robin stood calmly beside him.
“Cien Fleur: Gigantesco Mano.” Two massive, blooming arms erupted from the jungle floor.
Coated heavily in Armament Haki, the giant hands grabbed a leaping tiger mid-air, perfectly anticipating its blind spot through Observation, and violently slammed it into the earth.
Brook moved like a freezing winter gale.
Effortlessly reading the beasts’ movements, he channeled his Armament Haki directly into his cane sword.
The black blade amplified the chill of the underworld, freezing the tigers solid from the inside out with a single, spectral slash.
High above the fray, Perona proved her worth.
Her Observation Haki allowed her to weave effortlessly through the beasts’ desperate, leaping strikes.
“Negative Black-Hollow!” she shrieked.
She materialized a massive, explosive Special Hollow, but instead of pure ghost energy, she managed to coat the exterior of the phantom bomb in a thin, dense layer of Armament Haki.
The armored ghost crashed directly into a tiger’s skull, detonating with a concussive shockwave that shattered its natural armor.
Even Law’s crew had evolved.
Bepo moved as a terrifying martial arts master, his furry fists coated in black Haki, expertly dodging lethal strikes with sharp Observation.
Nearby, Penguin and Shachi fought back-to-back, panting heavily, but their weapons glinted with the rudimentary, shimmering coating of basic Armament hardening, and they weaved around attacks that would have killed them three weeks ago.
Motivated by the sheer terror of redoing their training, and the want to go back to the ship to rest.
Made it so that they absolutely dismantled the Sabertooth pack.
Two hours later, the Titan’s Glory descended through the clouds, the massive Sky-Rift Roc carrying it gently over the clearing.
I stood on the boarding ramp as the crew limped aboard.
They looked like they had been through a war, but the aura they radiated was dense, focused, and lethal.
“Conguratulation everyone,” I said, giving them a single, respectful nod.
“You conquered the Goliath’s Rest.”
As they collapsed onto the Adam Wood deck, I walked among them.
I didn’t send them to the infirmary immediately.
Instead, I placed my hands on their shoulders, one by one.
Drawing on my reserves of Fa-Jin and spiritual life energy, I channeled a warm, glowing green aura into their bodies.
The dense energy flowed through their battered muscles, rapidly knitting fractured bones, closing deep lacerations, and flushing the lactic acid from their systems.
In less than ten minutes, the entire team was physically healed, leaving only the mental exhaustion of their three-week crucible.
“My dress is still ruined,” Perona pouted, though the relief on her face was undeniable.
“Get cleaned up,” I told them.
“Then meet me in the medical bay.
We have new toys.”
An hour later, the core crew, showered, in fresh clothes, and eating massive sandwiches provided by the Food Synthesizer, gathered inside the reinforced medical bay.
I stood at the front, unlocking the secure metal case on the table.
I pulled out one of the glass vials containing the glowing blue Compound V serum.
“While you were surviving the jungle and getting stronger, I was busy analyzing this,” I began, holding the vial up.
“This is Compound V.
In its home universe, it permanently mutates baseline humans.
But Grand Line biology, specifically Devil Fruit users or those with existing mutations like Laura and Gwen, violently rejects permanent rewriting.”
I looked at Law.
“If a baseline human takes this without Haki to protect their cells, they melt.
But if we take it, the serum acts as an apocalyptic adrenaline shot.”
I explained the 19-Minute Rule.
“If you drink this, it won’t give you any new superpowers.
Instead, it will exponentially multiply your physical strength, your Devil Fruit capacity, and your Haki output by exactly five times.
The effect lasts for exactly nineteen minutes before your immune system safely burns it out.
This will be our crew’s ultimate trump card.”
Law stared at the glass vial, his medical mind instantly grasping the terrifying implications.
A Room five times its normal size, sustained without the usual stamina drain.
“That’s not all,” I said, putting the glass vial back in the case and reaching into my mystic pouch.
I pulled out a collection of gleaming, golden rings.
“I have sixteen of these.
They are called the Nega-Bands, forged as rings.
I took this entire set directly off Evil Dr.
Strange in the Marvel universe.”
I tossed one to Laura, Gwen, Law, Robin, Brook, Perona, Bepo, Penguin, Shachi, and Gammamon.
They slipped the golden rings onto their fingers, except for Gammamon who put his on his tail.
“From now on, these rings will be the symbol that you belong to the Verdant Abyss crew,” I explained, holding up my own hand to show the band gleaming on my finger.
“They aren’t your normal everyday jewelry.
These rings turn your mental energy aka your Haki, directly into physical energy, granting you a massive physical boost in combat.
They also allow you to generate durable forcefields, achieve limited flight, and perform short-range teleportation up to ten meters.”
The crew stared at their hands in awe.
Perona admired the gleaming gold against her pale fingers, highly approving of the aesthetic.
“I already gave one of the Nega-Bands to Jasmine before she left for the South Blue,” I added.
“No matter where she is, she carries our symbol.”
“Flight and teleportation,” Law murmured, testing the weight of the ring.
“This changes our entire engagement strategy.”
“Which is why you need to learn how to use them,” I said, walking past them toward the door.
“Because your graduation exam starts in a few days.”
For the next few days, the Titan’s Glory sailed out of the Calm Belt and back into the standard waters of Paradise.
The deck of the ship turned into a high-tech firing range.
The crew spent hours getting accustomed to the Nega-Bands.
Flashes of golden energy erupted across the ocean as Gwen practiced forming dense forcefields mid-air to block incoming projectiles, while Laura utilized the ten-meter teleportation to close the distance instantly, appearing directly behind Law in sparring matches.
Brook found himself happily hovering above the deck, combining the ring’s limited flight with his lightweight skeletal frame to achieve impossible speeds, while Perona giggled as she repeatedly teleported away from Penguin to avoid doing her chores.
The rings seamlessly integrated with their newly awakened Haki and combat style, turning the Verdant Abyss crew into a highly coordinated, heavily armed strike force.
When we finally spotted land, the crew was dialed in.
I stood at the bow, looking at the bustling, chaotic port town in the distance.
“You guys are physically ready,” I told the crew as they gathered in front of me.
“You have Haki, you have the Nega-Bands, and you survived Goliath’s Rest.
But you need a live-fire exam against human combatants.
Plus, Marine HQ is getting anxious about my Warlord status.
We need to collect some high-value bounties before we vanish into the New World to keep Sengoku off our backs.”
“Where are we?” Laura asked, cracking her knuckles.
“Jaya,” I answered.
“Specifically, Mock Town.
It’s the notorious haven for the worst, most cutthroat pirates in Paradise.
Men who think they’re untouchable.”
As the Titan’s Glory dropped anchor just outside the harbor, the commotion in the town was immediate.
Through Observation Haki, I could feel the greedy, violent intent spiking across the island.
The local pirate alliances had recognized the Warlord’s flag.
Arrogant, high-bounty captains were already rallying their crews on the docks, thinking they could ambush us, claim our heads, and make a massive name for themselves.
“They are treating us like a target,” Gwen smirked, the symbiote slowly sliding over her face as she tapped her Nega-Band.
I didn’t draw my blades.
I simply sat on the wooden railing of the ship, looking at the horde of heavily armed pirates gathering below.
“Let’s go test those new powers,” I told my crew, gesturing toward the town.
“Clear it.”
The Verdant Abyss crew leaped from the ship, descending upon Mock Town.
