Chapter 393: The Crater’s Monsters, A Lot of Mana Points!
Slash!
As soon as Leon jumped into the crater, he unleashed all of his abilities on the monsters present, his sword and spells cutting through the chaos with practiced precision and deadly efficiency that came from countless battles fought and won.
And though it was slightly more difficult to fight ten of them at once given their numbers and varied abilities, the area was massive, making it easy for him to dodge or attack whenever he needed without being overwhelmed by the volume of enemies surrounding him.
Alphox even joined at some point, jumping from the spot where Leon had jumped from and swinging his claws in midair toward a monster’s back with surprising ferocity for such a small creature, his tiny form a blur of motion.
SLASH!
Surprisingly, Alphox’s attack was actually enough to kill that specific monster, as it fell to the ground and turned into particles that Leon obtained, the mana flowing into his jar and increasing his total.
’How fucking strong is that baby dragon?’ Leon thought at that moment, genuinely shocked by the display of power from his pet, ’I mean, he’s level 3 and able to take on level 100 monsters like they’re nothing, that’s insane.’
Regardless, after around thirty minutes of constant fighting and moving through the crater, dodging attacks and countering with his own, Leon managed to kill every monster that had been trapped down there, the crater falling silent.
[+178 Mana Points.]
"Damn," Leon said, impressed by the haul from that single location.
And with that significant addition, his total mana points rose dramatically, bringing him much closer to his goal.
[Mana Points: 698]
’Hehe...’ Leon grinned internally, satisfied with his progress and the lead he was building.
Leon’s mana storer jar was now around 70% filled, which made him assume that it was able to hold at most 1,000 Mana Points total before reaching capacity and overflowing.
Or at least, it seemed like Iris never expected anybody to get more than that, so she didn’t prepare for that possibility and set the limit accordingly without anticipating someone like Leon.
Leon now knew for a fact that he’d at least be top 2, nobody else but him could get so many mana points with the time remaining in the event.
And yet, that didn’t mean he’d sit on his ass and do nothing, instead he was even more eager to get to 1,000 Mana Points now and secure his victory beyond any doubt.
Tick!
[60 participants remain.]
"Kaaaaa~"
Alphox sat on the ground and closed his eyes, seemingly more exhausted than Leon was from all the fighting they had done, his small body visibly tired.
"You can rest," Leon smiled, and the baby dragon nodded before returning to his pet space, disappearing in a flash of light that faded quickly, "I’ll manage on my own from here."
Leon headed toward the edge of the crater where and looked up, indeed, it was pretty high and would be difficult to climb normally without the right tools or abilities.
Someone stupid would jump without a plan and get stuck here, if they weren’t killed by all the monsters first that is, becoming trapped forever.
But Leon simply lifted his staff and cast his spell with practiced ease, his mana flowing through the implement.
Vines of Torment!
The vines erupted from the crater’s walls and surrounded Leon, slowly lifting him up with their strong grip, their tendrils wrapping around his body securely.
This skill was usually used to attack and restrain opponents in combat, but indeed, just like he had done in the [Time Tower], it could help in such situations as well when used creatively outside of battle.
After a few seconds of the vines constantly helping him up, climbing the rocky walls, Leon arrived at the top of the crater, breathing in the fresh air of the mountains.
A wide grin spread on his face, ready to head forward and eliminate more monsters to increase his lead and secure his position.
But as he turned around to head deeper into the mountains, he stopped in his tracks at the sight before him that made his blood run cold.
"Oh shit," Leon said, his eyes widening in surprise and concern.
Right before Leon, a massive transparent wall was very slowly closing in, its surface shimmering with a faint blue light that pulsed with energy.
It made a slow buzzing sound that echoed through the mountains, and he immediately assumed it to be the "barrier" that the panel spoke about when only 12 hours remained in the event.
He didn’t want to find out what happened if he went outside of it though, so he gave up his plans of going deeper into the mountains and exploring further.
’But wait, if the barrier continues to close in, doesn’t it mean that eventually... only a small part of the domain would remain for everyone to fight in?’ Leon realized, the implications dawning on him.
Leon assumed the [Treacherous Mountains], [Forest of Doom] and [Ruined City] would be completely overtaken by the barrier given enough time, shrinking the play area.
Meaning that eventually, only the plains would remain as the final battleground for the remaining participants to fight over.
’Need to be quick, and get as many kills as possible before the time runs out and the area shrinks too much,’ Leon thought, his mind racing with strategies.
The next hours of the event, up until the last one, were spent with Leon simply killing anything on his way, moving through the shrinking domain and eliminating any threats he encountered.
The amount of monsters had dropped significantly, to the point he sometimes didn’t even one in an entire hour, the area feeling empty and barren of enemies.
Eventually, the barrier overtook the mountains, city and forest, forcing him to head back to the plains where the final confrontation would happen with all the remaining participants.
And as time passed relentlessly, a notification appeared that signaled the final stretch of the event was upon them.
Ding!
[Only one hour remains in the event.]
