Chapter 1739: Chapter 782: Anqiao Pavilion (2)
"Even for me, there are people I can’t afford to provoke, and there are times when people take advantage of me, so there’s no need to talk about fairness or unfairness."
"Besides, I just wanted to teach those country folks a lesson, not take their lives! That’s already merciful enough for them!"
Seeing her good friend still frowning slightly and looking displeased, the Bidding Girl also became a bit unhappy.
In the Capital, there is never any talk of fairness.
As the noble daughter of the Ji Family, her high-born status is fairness.
Changing the subject to martial arts, as expected, immediately eased her good friend’s frown.
The Bidding Girl gave a slight smile, a good friend is so comforting.
As for that wild man, she still remembers the pain of that slap!
As long as she catches him, she must tear the mouth of that wild man apart! To vent her heart’s hatred!
...
"Achoo!"
Fang Yu, carrying bags of all sizes, suddenly sneezed.
What’s going on? Who’s thinking about me?
Fang Yu lifted his right hand, which was holding an unknown number of items, and touched his nose.
"Husband, what’s wrong? Caught a cold?"
Ding Hui suddenly got close, that concerned and considerate look, it’s simply not the same person as usual.
The gentle and tender demeanor, if not for that same face, Fang Yu would suspect if she had been replaced.
"Bought some happiness?"
Fang Yu said with some annoyance.
"Hey!"
Ding Hui just laughed, and her mouth wouldn’t close.
Hundred Mischief Lane is just Hundred Mischief Lane, there really are a lot of good things inside.
And they have everything from all over the world, if she wasn’t already short of cash, she could continue shopping!
Ding Hui usually doesn’t like shopping and doesn’t enjoy going to those silk shops and gold and silver jewelry stores that girls love to visit.
Originally, Fang Yu just thought Ding Hui’s hobbies were different from ordinary girls, and she shouldn’t be treated as a typical girl.
But now, Fang Yu understood.
It’s not that Ding Hui doesn’t like shopping, it’s just that the street she shops on isn’t the kind that ordinary girls like.
It’s these streets filled with stalls of demon materials and the air thick with the pungent smell of medicinal materials that are Ding Hui’s favorite.
Fang Yu suspected that if it weren’t for him stopping her, Ding Hui could stay here all day without moving.
Mainly, the stalls on Hundred Mischief Lane have a strong turnover rate, and each new vendor brings a completely new set of items, giving Ding Hui new sensory stimulation, wishing to observe each new stall’s items one by one, feel them out, and haggle for bargains.
This game of finding bargains, Ding Hui has clearly become a bit addicted to it.
Even with Fang Yu’s shallow knowledge of materials, he spotted several items that weren’t worth much, which Ding Hui secured at prices far below market value.
But the problem is, those materials, if needed, could be easily purchased at any regular store with ample supply.
Was there something I overlooked?
Fang Yu looked several times and quickly confirmed that he hadn’t missed anything, it was just that Ding Hui was addicted to bargain hunting, buying things regardless of necessity, as long as they were cheap enough.
"We’ll come back tomorrow!" Ding Hui happily said, but was immediately glared at by Fang Yu.
Ding Hui instantly felt a little guilty and went up to take Fang Yu’s arm.
"Hu~sband~"
She shook Fang Yu’s arm and said in a low voice.
A series of moves, making Fang Yu a bit unable to withstand it.
"... Only buy what we need."
"I promise to only buy the materials we need! I knew Husband was the best!"
Ding Hui was visibly happy, after such a long journey, today Ding Hui was probably the happiest.
Fang Yu, in fact, felt a bit guilty towards Ding Hui, she had suffered quite a bit of hardship accompanying him on this journey.
But such spending was completely within the budget.
However, business is ultimately more important.
"Shall we go to Anqiao Pavilion now?"
"It’s up to you, Husband!"
Now, she’s obedient...
After placing the items in the carriage, Fang Yu took a glance at the ever-alert and enthusiastic Diao Xiaohui.
"Let’s go."
Fang Yu patted her head, got on the carriage, and drove the horse forward.
Leaving behind this crowded, bustling flea market that was still lively even with the sunset, the road ahead became slightly clearer.
The place they were heading to was a place to gather information.
In simple terms, it was about buying information.
But the intelligence from Anqiao Pavilion came in tiers, and for people like them without much status, even if they went to buy information, they could only obtain relatively ordinary information. More in-depth information either came at a high price or required membership in their esteemed organization.
"Who does Husband want to establish relations with first?"
Ding Hui’s voice echoed in Fang Yu’s mind.
"Let’s see who we can contact first, preferably Master Ouyang. I assume you’re most interested in this master. But the Ouyang Family is influential, going straight there without proper investigation seems unwise to me."
This is not some frontier town, but the Capital.
The Capital is full of experts, with even more complex factions.
If there’s anything amiss at the Ouyang Family, or if Yan Wenxi’s token cannot provide protection, rushing in blindly would be akin to seeking death.
It’s not that Fang Yu doesn’t trust Yan Wenxi, but when it comes to matters of life and death, it’s better to be prepared.
If a monster appeared, he might be able to escape, but Ding Hui wouldn’t have the slightest chance of survival.
As the sun fully set and lanterns lit up at both ends of the street, Fang Yu also had Diao Xiaohui light the small lantern on the carriage.
After a short journey, a towering building appeared before them.
The signboard with the big characters ’Anqiao Pavilion’ hung there, quite imposing.
And beneath the signboard, people came and went.
This place was clearly a place for buying and selling information, yet it was as bustling as a marketplace, with a large flow of people.
Fang Yu couldn’t help but feel some confusion.
By logic, conducting this type of business should be done discreetly, let alone having a storefront, even the contacts should be sneaky.
Why was it that there was a shop open boldly, with people coming and going, as if they were afraid others wouldn’t know this was an information-selling business?
Despite his confusion, Fang Yu still got off the carriage.
Just about to help Ding Hui down, someone from Anqiao Pavilion was already running over.
"Sir, I’ll handle the carriage for you. Are you here for business at Anqiao Pavilion? Please, come in!"
Fang Yu was taken aback, this big shop really had good service, even taking care of ’parking’.
But considering the pile of valuable items on the carriage, Fang Yu still gave Diao Xiaohui a look.
"Xiaohui, stay behind while I and... your mother go inside."
Diao Xiaohui nodded woodenly.
"Husband, the way you put it, makes me sound old."
A jade hand reached out from the carriage, undoubtedly Ding Hui’s small hand.
Fang Yu reached out, helping her down from the carriage.
"Lead the way."
Ding Hui said with the elegance of a wealthy woman.
Though in some sense, Ding Hui could indeed be considered a wealthy woman.
That carriage load of items, if sold, while not matching the wealth of the Capital’s wealthy and esteemed, would still support an affluent lifestyle for everyday expenses.
The problem was, many of the materials inside were genuinely unsellable; they needed them for themselves.
What could be sold were just things purposely prepared for sale, so their wealth was just average.
However, the young servant at the door didn’t understand this, politely saluting and instructing someone nearby to take Diao Xiaohui to park the carriage, while he led Fang Yu and company inside with a smile.
At least for the service, this Anqiao Pavilion was quite comfortable.
Entering Anqiao Pavilion with the crowd, Fang Yu noticed the spacious interior, split in half by a huge panel in the middle, with two large curtains on either side, each marked with a big character for ’Buy’ and ’Sell’.
"May I know if the two of you are here to buy or sell information? To buy, please take the left door, and to sell, please take the right door."
The guide explained politely.
Fang Yu and Ding Hui exchanged a glance and headed directly towards the left.
