Chapter 1244: Divine Martial Guard
Chapter 1244: Chapter 1244: Divine Martial Guard
"And then? What happened after you left the Hongjun Sword Furnace Villa?" Pei Yan believed that if the elders of Hongjun Sword Furnace truly wanted to kill Dalles and the other, they wouldn’t have made it past the gate, let alone escape all the way back.
"We encountered no issues on the long street outside the villa gates, but when we left the excuse of Hongjun Sword Furnace’s long street, we noticed three people following us. After realizing we were being followed, we quickened our pace and stayed on the main road. Yet, who would’ve thought that after these three followed for a distance, they recklessly started a fight in broad daylight, disregarding the fact that it was the Immortal Palace, attacking us in front of everyone!"
Speaking of this, Dalles coughed repeatedly due to his agitation, and Pei Yan hurriedly supported him, continuously channeling the Power of Origin into him to ease his internal injuries. After a moment, Dalles, having caught his breath, continued, "Two of these three were on par with us; even if superior, it was only by a narrow margin. Facing them alone, we might have been injured but wouldn’t be in such dire straits. The terror lies in the leader of the three; this person is definitely at the pinnacle of the Heavenly Dao level. We were defeated within three moves when facing him together. His swordplay was exquisite, and his angles of attack were unimaginable, bypassing our defense as if it didn’t exist. Whether we tried to crystallize or vaporize, we couldn’t effectively dodge his moves. Fortunately, this person didn’t seem intent on killing us, only assisted from the side when we were about to escape, causing us considerable harm and then withdrew, watching coldly without further interference, maintaining a threat that chased us all over as we fled desperately."
"On the way, passersby and Immortal Palace patrol saw this spectacle and avoided it entirely. Some Palace Patrol Disciples tried to intervene, but after the assailant ruthlessly killed several people with thunderous means, none dared step forward again! Knowing it was difficult for these low-level Palace Patrol Disciples to contain such a master, I declared my identity loudly as I passed the long street of the Immortal Palace’s various villas, hoping someone would assist me. Unfortunately, only upon reaching the Mo Sect Villa did Elder Feng lead people to our rescue, and seeing the Mo Sect people appear, the three assassins ceased pursuit and fled swiftly."
Dalles finished his halting account, and Pei Yan turned his head to glance at the person beside him. Though his eyes showed no emotion, sealed as they were, Feng Tianhe could clearly sense the disdain emanating from him. The defense made for his fellow sect members just then was thoroughly undermined, leading him to shake his head repeatedly in embarrassment and sigh.
Seeing him like this, Pei Yan smiled slightly, knowing it was challenging enough for the elder; after all, he had helped him greatly. It’s understandable to maneuver for the benefit of the Immortal Palace, and there was no need to make things difficult for him further. Thinking this, Pei Yan refrained from sarcasm, instead turning back to pat Dalles’s shoulder with comfort: "I understand what happened! Focus on healing and resting; I will handle this matter properly. Rest assured, I will not let anyone who hurt you go."
"Thank you, Master!" Hearing this, Dalles trembled as he tried to stand and salute but was pushed back by Pei Yan, who held him by the shoulder. He then nodded to Jiang Donghu, who quickly came forward to assist Dalles, helping him upstairs to a quiet room to rest and recover.
While the people inside were busy, hurried footsteps sounded outside, approaching quickly. As the noise grew louder, the surroundings of the investigation team’s quarters became chaotic. Shortly thereafter, Xia Yu, who was responsible for guarding outside, rushed in to report: "Pei Yan, many soldiers have arrived outside. Two people claiming to be the Grand Generals of the Left and Right Divine Martial Guards are here to pay respects as ordered."
"What!" The others in the room remained calm upon hearing this news, except for Feng Tianhe and his disciples, who were shocked, looking at Pei Yan in tremor: "Pei Xiaoyou, Pei Yan! This is an internal matter of the Immortal Palace. If you’re short on manpower for retaliation, I can return to the Mo Sect to dispatch people for you; there’s no need to cause such a stir!"
"It’s the Spirit Lord’s decision." Pei Yan didn’t bother to argue further with Feng Tianhe, coldly dropping this statement.
Upon hearing this, Feng Tianhe was rendered speechless, sitting down dejectedly as if frosted eggplant, muttering, "It’s over; it’s over!"
In the Daoist Plane, the Six Mansions of the Immortal Palace emerging from various selections could indeed be considered the top power in the entire Daoist Plane. They govern various sects on the Daoist Plane with the rights granted by Spirit Lord Lin, yet they are not the largest power within the Daoist Realm. The mid to lower-tier forces suppressed internally and externally on the Daoist Plane are comprised of the Sixteen Guards, formed from selected disciples across sects and Loose Cultivators, created by Spirit Lord Lin. Once people enter the Sixteen Guards, they are severed from previous sect forces, possessing their cultivation technique and system within. Though most in the Sixteen Guards can only advance to the sixth level or below, they excel in numbers, solid cultivation techniques, adept command in group battles, and military excellence, enabling them to receive high-level cultivation techniques favored by the Supreme General, achieving feats not necessarily inferior to sect disciples.
More importantly, from the Sixteen Guards’ establishment to today, their status has never wavered. Lin Ruxue mostly delegates matters of the Immortal Palace, except for the crucial selection and appointment within the Sixteen Guards, which she personally oversees. This has been the practice since the Garden of the Immortals and continues in the Immortal Palace era. Thus, in the Daoist Plane, there exists the saying, "Immortal Palace may flow, but the Sixteen Guards are ironclad."
The Left and Right Divine Martial Guards are among the Six Guards responsible for guarding Luocheng and supporting the Immortal Palace Spirit Lord. In terms of hierarchical relation, the Immortal Palace is above these Six Guards, with specific authority to deploy small groups of the Six Guards. However, large-scale mobilization requires the Spirit Lord’s approval.
Though working for Lin Ruxue, the Immortal Palace holds superior status and strength, often looking down on the Six Guards’ soldiers. When sect disciples conflict with the Six Guards, such small friction barely warrants reporting to the Spirit Lord. Hence, under the Immortal Palace’s bias, the Six Guards often suffer, swallowing grievances until matters conclude blandly. Finding a chance for reprisal now is likely to result in trouble for many sect disciples in the Immortal Palace tonight.
Aware of these inside tales through intelligence gathering at the Daoist Plane’s edge, Pei Yan understands this well. The Sixteen Guards are Lin Ruxue’s private army, solely loyal to her without interest in external relations. The investigation team, avoiding misunderstandings with Lin Ruxue, has not deliberately engaged them, but unexpectedly, has an opportunity to connect through this incident.
After hearing Xia Yu’s report, Pei Yan uttered the word "please," and soon two robust men donning heavy armor followed Xia Yu’s lead, striding in from the courtyard outside.
