Chapter 1250: Arrogant and Overbearing
Chapter 1250: Chapter 1250: Arrogant and Overbearing
"Pei Xiaoyou, what exactly has happened that has caused you to mobilize the Divine Martial Guard into the palace? Do you realize such an outrageous incident has never occurred since the Immortal Palace was established! Pei Xiaoyou, with the battle imminent, everything should prioritize war; do you know the impact your actions could have, shaking the hearts of the people?" Among the four elders, Elder Cao Jiu Zhou of the Clear Wind Talisman Transformation Sect, who has had the longest connection with the investigation office, stepped forward to inquire, directly pointing out that given the current situation, stirring unrest would be inappropriate.
"Do you really not know what has happened?" Pei Yan stood up from his position and walked slowly behind the chair, resting one hand on the chair back while gently scratching his brow with the other, coldly laughing sarcastically.
"Pei Yan, we know some things happened just now, and we also know your people suffered losses! But these are your personal matters; you can tell us, and we’ll seek justice for you, but you can’t make such a mess that drags us all into it!" Pei Yan’s words caused the four to look embarrassed, and Elder Chao Zimin of the Infinite Thunder Sect came forward to argue, his face reddened.
Pei Yan chuckled dismissively, saying, "Expecting you to seek justice, I fear all my investigators would be killed to silence them! When they were attacked before, why didn’t you come out to seek justice? I’ve already shown you Immortal Palace offices lots of face! Although I went to demand the culprit, I still gave you time to find the real criminal, but how long has it been? Just one day! My people were chased down the street! If I don’t react, they’ll be killed right at my doorstep."
"But... but stepping back ten thousand steps, this is still your conflict with Hongjun Sword Furnace; there’s no reason to involve us!" Elder Yu Qiuran from the White Deer Institute murmured softly.
"What are you talking about? What does this have to do with my Hongjun Sword Furnace? His people were attacked after leaving our separate courtyard." Elder Xin Yutang, who came with the Hongjun Sword Furnace to speak to Pei Yan, protested with dissatisfaction upon hearing the White Deer Institute elder suddenly switch sides.
"This matter really does involve your Hongjun Sword Furnace. The people attacking mine used your Hongjun Sword Furnace’s sword techniques! And this time, I examined their injuries first; the attacker’s power is by no means ordinary. How do you explain this?" Pei Yan coldly snorted as he denounced Xin Yutang.
"This, this, this!" Xin Yutang was momentarily speechless. Elder Liu Xuanji had told him before coming that this attack might be a deliberate framing, which turned out to be true. Feeling aggrieved and embittered, Xin Yutang immediately argued, "It couldn’t have been us! Pei Xiaoyou, why would we do such a thing! If we truly wanted to kill them, they wouldn’t even step outside our courtyard! Why make it so publicly known? For what? For some secret technique handed down from us? Or to let everyone know we are the culprits?"
"I don’t care why! My people have been twice injured by your sect’s secret techniques, and today you must give me an explanation. As for the other sects, I’m sorry! The bandits in the Immortal Palace come and go freely, and you are all negligent! Fine! Wasn’t it my people who called for help on the street and no one cared? I care! Today, the Immortal Palace is under lockdown, and every residence must be searched. I will see where the culprit can run! Qian Younuo!"
"At your service!" In the shadows, enjoying Pei Yan calling his name, Qian Younuo immediately stepped out to salute in response.
"When you go back to relay orders, have your subordinates escort several elders back to their residences, tell them to stay there quietly! Move a step, and kill!"
"I obey!"
"Pei Yan! It’s fine to let us return to our residences! At least allow us to go to the Immortal Palace Guard to inform the disciples and calm their hearts!" Elder Cao Jiu Zhou from the Clear Wind Talisman Transformation Sect saw Pei Yan’s resolute attitude, knowing he was intent on finding the mastermind in this matter, reluctantly asked for a compromise.
Pei Yan completely disregarded the friendship formed over the period, flatly refusing, "No! Didn’t understand my words? Immediately return to your residences, you may not go anywhere!"
The words brought the four elders to the brink of tears, knowing that the Forbidden Guard Office was where their disciples were. If anything went wrong, it would cause great losses within the sect, and in anger, Elder Chao Zimin from Infinite Thunder Sect furiously rebuked, "Pei Yan, what do you mean! I see you are not seeking the real culprit but deliberately targeting each office in the Immortal Palace! Don’t you know the consequences of doing this? If a real fight breaks out, it would be a massacre leaving no stone unturned, are you trying to destroy the Immortal Palace?"
"Qian Younuo, did you not understand my words? Escort several elders back to their residences!" Pei Yan, no longer bothered responding, knew his people were already outside the Immortal Palace, advancing towards the palace.
"Esteemed elders, this is the Spirit Lord’s..." Qian Younuo blocked the elders, bowed, and started advising them to leave, but impulsively Elder Chao Zimin stepped forward and slapped Qian Younuo heavily on the head.
A Tier Seven High-Rank Military Officer being slapped by a Tier Nine Heavenly Dao Expert, regardless of power or status, Qian Younuo could not evade the blow. The heavy slap dented his helmet’s faceguard, and the impact forced the faceguard to press against his cheek. Blood spurted from his mouth and nose, nearly knocking him to the ground.
Having grown up in the military with a bloodline not commonly seen among cultivators, Qian Younuo, now enraged and with his eyes red, glared angrily at Chao Zimin, his hand instantly placed on the sword at his waist. With a swoosh, the blade was drawn half an inch but halted, intimidated by Chao Zimin’s aura, frozen midair unable to pull further.
"I advise you not to draw it! You’ll only disgrace yourself! Who do you think you are! Trying to interject in a conversation among sect elders; you’re not suited to maintain order here!" Chao Zimin disregarded Qian Younuo’s glare, sneeringly mocking him.
"Draw it! Why aren’t you drawing it! I want to see how they will react!" Pei Yan, never indulging in the chaos, stood beside Qian Younuo, placing his hand on his wrist holding the sword, egging him on.
"Pei Yan, you!" Chao Zimin, watching Pei Yan openly defy him for an ordinary military officer, was infuriated till his eyebrows stood upright, pointing at Pei Yan, speechless.
"With me backing you, why not draw it!" Pei Yan ignored Chao Zimin again, seeing Qian Younuo hesitate, smiling, reminding, "Didn’t you have something to say earlier? I’ll give you the chance, repeat it in full for them!"
"This is the Spirit Lord’s decree; today everyone in the Immortal Palace must comply with the lockdown order, no one is permitted to use their sect token to enter the Immortal Palace Guard!"
