Chapter 1291: Chapter 1291: Ruthless Mockery

"This, this, this doesn’t prove anything! Just because the way of walking is a little different, you conclude that person isn’t one of us? That’s too far-fetched! Maybe we were feeling a bit unwell yesterday, and that’s why there’s a difference in comparison!" Ding Zhiyi understood that even he wouldn’t believe such an explanation, but like a trapped beast, he still made a final argument.

"Sigh! I really don’t know what to say to you guys! Still not admitting it, huh? Then let’s continue!" Pei Yan sighed helplessly, shook his head, fast-forwarded the video, froze on a frame, and pointed to the image, saying: "From walking out of the Teleportation Array to the disguised individual entering a pavilion inside the White Deer Institute and disappearing, it took a total of eight minutes. This is the garden the masquerader passed through before entering the final pavilion. Notice Xu Wendong’s footprints on the right side of the flowerbed soil, leaving several prints. Right after the lockdown, we investigated the scene and extracted these footprints after comparing them with the video."

Pei Yan snapped his fingers, and the images on the wall changed again. Two footprint patterns appeared in the projection. Pointing at the image on the wall, Pei Yan continued to explain: "The left is the footprint we extracted from the scene, and the right is the footprint we secretly extracted after capturing Xu Wendong. I’m not going to explain the technicalities of how different body weights and heights affect footprints here because your IQs wouldn’t understand. We’ll just compare the appearance of the scene-extracted footprints. The masquerader’s shoe is larger than Xu Wendong’s current shoe size, and the tread patterns of the two shoes are different! In the rush, the masquerader can transform clothes similar to yours through teleportation imaging, but they wouldn’t notice details like the tread pattern!"

Pei Yan said this while looking at Xu Wendong mockingly: "Less than an hour from the incident until you were detained, don’t tell me you changed into another pair of shoes and had foot surgery!"

"I originally have small feet and wore shoes that didn’t fit last night! I changed them at the White Deer Institute!" Xu Wendong, saying this, had already become somewhat hysterical.

"Ha ha ha!" Pei Yan rolled his eyes and sneered coldly, clapped his hands, and the video played again before pausing. He pointed at Mi Langcai in the image, then extended his left hand to point to the fingers of his right hand, saying: "There’s something your Daoist Plane people might not know, which is that fingerprints are unique to each individual by nature. The person in the footage disguised as Mi Langcai pushed the garden gate subconsciously, and we extracted this fingerprint from where he pushed."

With Pei Yan’s narration, the images changed again, and two fingerprint comparison images were presented on the wall. Pei Yan explained: "The left side is the masquerader’s fingerprint, while the right side is Mi Langcai’s fingerprint. The two don’t match at all!"

"That’s a trait that only people from your Foundational Plane have. This is the Daoist Plane!" Mi Langcai argued.

"Alright! Let’s not discuss whether our physical structures are similar. Then why were none of your fingerprints found on the wooden door? We extracted six distinct fingerprints from the door, none of which matched yours. From when the masquerader entered the pavilion until this area was completely sealed off, in that two-hour window, no one cleaned that door. How do you explain that?" Pei Yan questioned again.

"There are too many explanations! Who would notice such trivial details! It’s all fabrication! You’re twisting the truth...," Xu Wendong was already driven crazy by Pei Yan’s relentless questions. Ignoring that his primal energy was sealed, he charged at Pei Yan, shouting desperately and hoarsely.

Smack! A crisp sound echoed, and before Xu Wendong could finish speaking, Pei Yan slapped him in the face. Xu Wendong found his mouth crooked, eyes slanted, and bleeding from the mouth and nose, but the pain didn’t stop him. Instead, he became more ferocious, baring his teeth and claws, lunging at Pei Yan intent on a life-and-death struggle. Yet, given Xu Wendong’s current sealed power, he was no match for even a normal Pei Yan.

Facing Xu Wendong’s assault, Pei Yan didn’t even evade; he grabbed the oncoming fist, applied slight force, and the sound of bone cracking resonated. Before Xu Wendong could scream, Pei Yan kicked his knee, producing a crisp crack, and Xu Wendong’s left leg twisted grotesquely. With a scream, Xu Wendong was conveniently tossed aside by Pei Yan. Trying to stand several times but failing, Xu Wendong could only crawl on the ground, holding his injured leg, glaring venomously at Pei Yan but not daring to voice another word.

Even so, Pei Yan, in a rage, didn’t plan to spare him. Seeing Xu Wendong still dared to look at him that way, Pei Yan stepped forward and began stomping ruthlessly on Xu Wendong’s head. The partly-mechanized shoe heel struck Xu Wendong’s head like an iron hammer repeatedly. Ding Zhiyi and Mi Langcai, unable to watch their long-time brother suffer such brutality, tried to intervene despite knowing they couldn’t match Pei Yan. However, they were stopped by Zheng Jia Ru and Xia Yu. After being subdued and shackled, they were pushed back against the wall.

"Spit! Ungrateful! You’re dissatisfied with suffering less before seeing King Yan! You come here to act petulant and argue with me, really thinking I’m a great kind-hearted man!" With one final kick that shattered the jaw of the unrecognizable Xu Wendong, Pei Yan spat at the unconscious figure and no longer concerned himself with the man. He turned to Ding Zhiyi and the others, taunting: "What, still not convinced? I say your tricks before me are like child’s play, do you believe it now? Yes! In terms of street experience, life experience, personal strength, and even endurance to punishment, most people in our world don’t compare to you. Back then, we couldn’t even pry the truth out of Li Songtao, who was two levels below you, despite using every method in our bureau! Because we had no leads on him, we could only resort to harsh interrogation."

As he spoke, Pei Yan lit a cigarette with a flame produced from his fingertips. After calming his emotions with a few breaths, he flicked the ash onto the paralyzed Xu Wendong’s face and continued: "But when it comes to lying, fabricating the scene, and anti-investigation skills, even a bike thief caught from our prison surpasses you guys. Regarding this case, even without our bureau’s investigators, any school kid who’s watched two hundred episodes of Conan could solve it. You three idiots thought you were clever! You thought sacrificing yourselves would trick us; do you still think your actions were so noble?"
