Chapter 1497: God of Mechanics

  • Next Chapter

Azote confidently spread his arms, and behind him, close to the city wall, seven or eight mage towers released hundreds of figures in succession. These figures flew over the city wall and headed towards the battlefield as soon as they exited the mage towers.

These alchemy puppets, controlled by the alchemists within the mage towers, were much smaller in stature than Xia Yu’s steel giants, but their nearly four-meter height still made them quite noticeable in the midst of the battle. The height difference did not cause Pei Yan to underestimate them. Compared to the steel giants’ dull reaction to the outside world, these alchemy puppets appeared much more agile.

As the alchemy puppets flitted across the battlefield, they were not only able to autonomously handle attacks from the Knight Order of mechanical knights on the ground but could also spare the time to swing their giant swords to launch source energy slashes, which were much larger and more powerful than those of ordinary temple knights. Moreover, three magic arrays intersected on their bodies, and fireballs burning with fierce flames shot out, bombarding the distant steel giants.

Under such attacks, the larger steel giants became perfect targets, and after sustaining several source energy slashes and flame bombardments, large cracks appeared on their bodies, causing the cannon muzzles on their surfaces to fall silent. Although Xia Yu’s divided attention and abilities gradually repaired these cracks, faced with the agile and continuously attacking alchemy puppets, which leapt above the mechanical knight army, the somewhat less intelligent steel giants lost their most destructive counterattack method, unable to use long-range firepower strikes.

“Is there something embedded inside similar to Spirit Stones? They can actually continuously launch such dense source energy slashes while still releasing single-target magic damage equivalent to a mage’s level. Oh! They can also strike with source energy attributed slashes! The production level of these alchemy puppets is quite high!” Pei Yan watched the alchemy puppets on the battlefield continuously display formidable power, not withholding his words of praise because these alchemy puppets were truly outstanding. Setting aside their single attack method, in terms of destructive power, they already possessed the attack strength of a seventh-level awakener, and their inherent alchemy puppet characteristics rendered their physical defense and close combat capabilities superior to ordinary cultivators of the same level.

“Stop pretending, Pei Yan! Get your mechanical duplicates moving! I believe they possess more formidable combat power than my alchemy puppets; they are your trump cards, right?” Azote, indifferent to Pei Yan’s praises, looked up at the three thousand mechanical duplicates split from Pei Yan himself, hovering in mid-air. These duplicates had been suspended at the army array rear ever since they appeared, not moving even a fraction despite the battle reaching such an intense level. Azote, deeply understanding Pei Yan’s abilities, was filled with caution and awe towards these mechanical duplicates.

“That’s one of the trump cards indeed! But I don’t need them now!” Pei Yan disregarded Azote’s suggestion and looked at him with a sympathetic expression, helplessly saying, “Mr. Azote, I broke through to the ninth-level awakening before coming here, reaching a level equivalent to a Heavenly Dao Strong Person.”

“Is that so? Does it have anything to do with me? Are you saying you can kill me? Hehehe, Pei Yan, even without breaking through ninth-level awakening, you could have easily killed me before. I’m just an alchemist! I didn’t come here expecting to return alive. You should know even if you kill me, these alchemy…” Azote thought Pei Yan’s words were threatening his life and responded disdainfully.

“No! Mr. Azote, you misunderstood! I will not take action to kill you!” Before Azote could finish speaking, Pei Yan interrupted him with a wave of his hand and continued, “What I meant is after advancing to the ninth level, my abilities received a new awakening! In this awakening, I can transform the essence of any material in any dimension and construct it into the mechanical body I desire, and within a short time, endow it with intelligence to have its own consciousness.”

As Pei Yan spoke, Azote’s expression began to change dramatically. This was an ability every alchemist dreamed of. While feeling envious, he quickly thought of something, his face suddenly drained of color, and Pei Yan’s voice continued to echo next to his ear: “Besides the special alchemy puppet that merges with cultivators above the eighth level, which I cannot fully control, all other mechanisms and alchemy puppets will bow before me. To exaggerate a little, I have already become the God of Mechanics.”

At this point, Pei Yan looked at the panicked Azote, who turned and sent out warnings to the mage towers, and sighed: “Therefore, Mr. Azote, the thing you should regret the most in your remaining life is not modifying me, but summoning these alchemy puppets before me.”

“No!” Shouting for the alchemists inside the mage towers to quickly recall the alchemy puppets, but it was too late. Watching the battlefield scene unfold, Azote let out a cry of despair.

In an instant! The alchemy puppets that were just assisting the Templar Order in launching effective counterattacks suddenly froze, and their steel bodies began to tremble and warp. The Templar knights engrossed in fierce battle did not notice this eerie change. Even if someone saw it, they considered it a preparation for a new attack by the alchemy puppets and did not think much of it. However, they did not expect that this new attack preparation was targeted not at the enemy but at themselves.

Soon someone noticed that the alchemy puppets, which were supposed to charge at the enemy, simultaneously turned around, and before everyone could understand what was happening, strange cannon muzzles appeared on the surfaces of these alchemy puppets as well, aiming at themselves. The temple knights began to realize something was amiss, but it was too late. The alchemy puppets’ arms swung wide, and giant source energy slashes were wielded against the unsuspecting comrades. Meanwhile, the extended cannon muzzles fired condensed fireballs of source energy flames, bombarding the army array.

This attack was something the temple knights positioned behind the army array hadn’t anticipated at all. For every temple knight, the source energy within them is their lifesaver on the battlefield, so they wouldn’t elevate it to the highest defense level for nothing unless facing the enemy head-on. Therefore, this sudden attack resulted in an unforeseen outcome. A large number of temple knights were inexplicably swept aside by their own alchemy puppets, even with protection from the battlefield mages and priests against aerial strikes. Numerous temple knights couldn’t even let out a scream before being split in two, along with their mounts, their scalding blood instantly dyeing the ground dark red.

“Use forbidden spells then!” Azost stared at his friend Azote, who had drifted into a dazed state, then looked at the devastated battlefield and finally made the decision he didn’t want to make.
