Chapter 1504: Chapter 1504: Outsmarted by One’s Own Cleverness
Being the focal point of the entire scene, Pei Yan’s every move naturally drew the enemy’s attention. Aleister, upon seeing Pei Yan land, recalled the information the Council City had gathered about him and turned to shout to the mage responsible for the city’s defense magic array, "Increase the level of the defense magic array inside the city to prevent ground-based vibration attacks!"
Just as Aleister issued the command, the mage responsible for initiating the second round of forbidden spells above Council City also completed the deployment of the forbidden spell. As a large amount of elemental energy rushed out from the scroll, changes began to emerge on the earth outside of Council City. After a series of violent tremors, rows of ground spikes over three meters long rose from the earth, sweeping across the battlefield in a formidable march.
In front of such a physically harmful forbidden spell attack, even the mechanical puppet army with some degree of magic immunity suffered heavy losses when pierced by these ground spikes. However, Council City was taken aback when they realized the mechanical legion seemed to have anticipated this move. The cavalry corps’ horses retracted their four hooves into their bodies, and the horse legs transformed into jet openings. Driven by this force, all mechanical cavalry corps soared into the air, while the mechanical infantry corps at the rear of the battlefield executed the same maneuver, only with their jet openings located beneath the armor on the rear of their bodies.
Although the mechanical infantry corps flew with a stumbling, chaotic formation under such rudimentary flying devices, far from the agility Pei Yan himself possessed with his mechanical avatar, they easily evaded the ground-based forbidden spell attack.
The mechanical legion’s transformation caught the mages of Council City off guard. They never expected their forbidden spell attack to cause minimal enemy casualties. Apart from some mechanical knights closest to the city walls who failed to take off and were pierced cold, most of the damage was inflicted on the Templar Order, which had interspersed to the rear of the enemy near the city walls and had no way to retreat.
The failure of the first round of attacks left the forbidden curse mages furious. Yet, forbidden spells do not simply end like this; even if you escape into the sky, they will pursue you relentlessly. The stone spikes, forming a spectacular stone forest on the battlefield, started to turn dark red under the forbidden curse mages’ activation. The stone spikes separated from the ground with creaking sounds, opening up fine cracks.
Seeing the mechanical legion in the sky, Jiang Feiyang appeared to understand his intention. Pei Yan breathed a sigh of relief, looking down at the increasingly red stone spikes before him, feeling the explosive power contained within them and the ever-widening cracks at their roots. He could imagine the scene when these stone spikes separated from the ground and, once sufficiently charged with elemental energy, launched skyward in a barrage. At that time, the slow-moving mechanical legion in the sky would have no way to evade and become perfect targets.
Pei Yan, having anticipated the next attack, naturally wouldn’t allow such a scene to unfold. He issued commands for coordinated attacks to the mechanical avatars in the sky while channeling his triple-convergence power to his fists and slammed them fiercely into the ground.
At the moment Pei Yan’s fists contacted the ground, a powerful vibration wave erupted from his body. The earth began to transform dramatically. As countless cracks radiated outward from beneath Pei Yan’s feet, upon contacting the first line of stone spikes, these spikes were crushed under the pressure of internal and external forces, sending burning stone fragments flying skyward amidst the rolling and splitting ground.
Seeing this earthquake induced by the supernatural power demolishing rows of stone spikes, about to affect Council City, the defense magic array within Council City played a crucial role at this moment. Over a hundred mages continuously injected elemental energy into the defense array via magic source stones. Earth elemental defense arrays were activated, reinforcing and stabilizing the land within Council City’s scope with various blessings. When the vibration wave met this layer of defense array, a fierce collision occurred, gradually dissipating the attack’s power generated by Pei Yan thanks to everyone’s efforts.
The dedication of numerous mages prevented Council City from collapsing due to the earthquake’s impact. The remnants of the Templar Order outside the city walls were affected by this confrontation. Although the defense array resisted Pei Yan’s attack, it couldn’t completely suppress the aftershocks beneath their feet, causing all knights to struggle to lower their stances and continuously calm their mounts, keeping the army from falling into chaos.
As everyone felt fortunate to have avoided this attack, angry and shocked howls echoed from the sky. Just stabilized, the Templar Knights barely had time to look up to see what was happening, only to hear the dense sound of air being split like drums from above. They were stunned to find trails of blue light resembling Meteor Fire Rain piercing through the dust clouds formed by shattered stones, appearing above them.
At this moment, both the Templar Knights below the city and the mid-to-low level mage, witches, and priests dwelling on the city head revealed a desperate look in their eyes. Within the Forbidden Magic Domain, all their elemental energies were suppressed, leaving them virtually powerless against such an attack!
This desperate sentiment didn’t last long because they soon faced the arrival of disaster. Boom! Boom! Boom! A series of explosions resounded in the sky above Council City. This time, Aleister and others atop Council City couldn’t stand by and all took action to block the projectile attacks. However, the range of resistance, even at their peak, was limited, and the defense magic array of Council City couldn’t quickly inject new elemental energy to redirect the defense against the ground attacks. After two rounds of electromagnetic cannon bombardment, the existing defense array finally couldn’t withstand it and was torn open with gap after gap.
Three thousand mechanical avatars transformed into electromagnetic cannon platforms, their fired electromagnetic cannons were slightly less powerful than the full-power electromagnetic cannon launched against the White Deer Institute that day, reduced by one-third, but the attack speed and density increased tremendously. This was because Pei Yan advanced to ninth-level awakening successfully, greatly reducing supernatural power consumption and continuously absorbing elemental energy from the heavens and earth to replenish himself. Otherwise, with his previous self, he would have had to cease bombardment and briefly rest to restore elemental energy after such three rounds of firing.
A continuous string of explosive roars erupted outside Council City. Amidst the sky-high flames caused by the explosions, the walls established by Council City collapsed one after another, with many of the most vulnerable mages, witches, and others perishing in the sea of fire. Outside the city walls, the defenseless Templar Knights, seeing countless comrades blown skyward in explosions, lost control amidst their shock, could no longer manage themselves or their mounts’ terror towards the bombardment. Chaos ensued, with panicked horses carrying terrified knights scurrying frantically through the bombardment.
