Her words were a probe into Walker’s attitude, an attempt to gauge if he would be willing to return home for the family reunion dinner. Because of this, a look of sheer nervousness appeared on her face as soon as she spoke.

"Mhm." Walker gave a faint response, turning his head toward Judith as if listening earnestly.

Seeing this, Judith was overjoyed. She even became a little incoherent, listing out the dishes prepared for the Spring Festival one by one. "Walker, is there anything else you’d like to eat?" she asked, looking at him with a face full of anticipation.

"That’s enough," Walker said calmly. He then turned to Noah, his tone softening a few degrees. "Noah, if there’s anything you want to eat, you can tell Grandma."

Judith nodded repeatedly. "That’s right. Is there anything else you want to eat, Noah? Tell Grandma, and Grandma will add it to the menu. I’ll make it for you then."

Noah actually thought about it seriously before answering, "I haven’t decided yet. Can you let me think about it for a while?"

"Of course," Judith agreed. She would agree to whatever Noah asked for.

Walker was willing to come home for the New Year, and she was truly happy. Because of this, she even ate an extra bowl of rice at dinner.

After the meal, Chloe and Fiona were taking a walk in the garden when Judith approached them. Looking at Chloe, she said, "Thank you for helping to persuade Walker. This is my New Year’s gift to you." Holding a gift box, she handed it directly to her.

Chloe’s expression remained indifferent. She lowered her eyes and typed on her phone: *There’s no need.*

Judith looked at her with complex eyes. "You don’t need to be so polite with me. You and Walker haven’t divorced yet, so it’s perfectly reasonable for me, as your mother-in-law, to prepare a gift for you. Consider it a token of my gratitude for you staying by his side and taking care of him."

Chloe calmly typed out her reply: *I’m taking care of him because he got hurt because of me. It’s only right that I do so. I appreciate the gesture, but I won’t accept the gift. He and I will divorce sooner or later, and I believe you’re looking forward to that day too, right? So it’s best if we just stay out of each other’s way.*

Hearing this, Judith’s face darkened a fraction. She felt that Chloe was being ungrateful.

She scoffed coldly, shoved the gift box into Chloe’s arms, and said sternly, "I’ve already bought it. Are you expecting me to give it to someone else? I can’t afford to lose face like that. If you don’t want it, you can throw it away." With that, she turned and walked right off.

Chloe knitted her pretty brows. She simply didn’t want to be too involved with the Grant family; after all, she and Walker would divorce eventually.

Fiona stroked her chin. "Since she gave it to you, just accept it. People of her status don’t like being defied."

The fact that Judith could control her temper and not hurl insults at Chloe was already quite impressive. As Mrs. Grant, the matriarch of Breyburn’s top wealthy family, she was always the one giving others attitude. When had she ever been forced to swallow her pride like this? Yet now, she had to exercise immense restraint in front of Chloe. If she bought a gift and still got rejected, wouldn’t she lose all her dignity?

Fiona shared these exact thoughts with Chloe.

After listening, Chloe was completely bewildered. Was that really the case?

Fiona linked arms with her and smiled. "Oh, stop overthinking it. If you really don’t like it, just bury it in a closet somewhere. Out of sight, out of mind."
