Our Anniversary, You Chose Her – I Chose Divorce
Chapter 882: Are Walker Grant’s Eyes Healed?
After he finished speaking, he didn’t spare Annie York another glance. Instead, he walked toward where another car was parked nearby.
Annie stood alone at the restaurant entrance for a long time. The night breeze washed over her, clearing her mind. Her hands clenched into fists, and a resolute gleam surfaced in her eyes.
Mr. Vance was right. She hadn’t done anything to wrong Chloe, nor had she hurt her. She was simply... fighting for her own happiness.
"..."
"URGH..."
Inside the car.
Chloe Reed’s head spun as the alcohol hit her, bringing on a wave of nausea that made her dry heave.
Fiona Linton quickly rolled down Chloe’s window. She began massaging her acupressure points to soothe her. "There, there, Chloe. Don’t feel bad, a little massage will make it all better."
The cold wind brushed against Chloe’s face, scattering some of the nausea. She half-opened her eyes, watching the scenery blur past. Suddenly, a familiar figure drifted into her line of sight. As the car sped forward, leaving the spot behind, the figure grew further and further away.
Chloe instinctively turned her head to look back.
"Walker Grant?" She murmured his name, eventually shouting it out loud. "Walker Grant!"
"Jeez, how could Walker Grant be here? Chloe, are you drunk? You must be seeing things." Startled by her sudden shout, Fiona quickly pulled her back inside, terrified she might tumble out the window.
Chloe slurred, "I saw him... He can see again. He was right there..."
She pointed behind them, her expression dead serious. However, the alcohol had gone straight to her head. Her flushed cheeks and misty, unfocused eyes made her earnest demeanor look adorably silly.
Fiona gently pressed her hand down. "You’re mistaken. That wasn’t Walker Grant, and his eyes haven’t healed. He’s back at Jardinelle."
"No... it was him," Chloe insisted stubbornly. "I wouldn’t mistake him... It was him."
That figure was so incredibly familiar. His handsome profile had already been deeply etched into her heart. How could she possibly be wrong?
Fiona humored her. "Alright, alright, you weren’t wrong. When we get back, we’ll interrogate him. We’ll ask him why he didn’t tell you his eyes were healed, and why he wasn’t waiting at home for you..."
Chloe rested her head on Fiona’s shoulder, her gaze turning slightly hollow. After a moment, a tiny sniffle escaped her.
"Huh?"
Fiona caught the sound and quickly cupped Chloe’s face to check on her, only to realize she was crying. Large tears rolled down her cheeks one after another. She sobbed silently, looking so fragile it made one’s heart ache.
Fiona immediately tensed up, her own slight buzz evaporating. "Chloe, what’s wrong? Are you feeling sick? Tell me, where does it hurt?"
Chloe didn’t say a word. She just wept silently, her beautiful eyes brimming with tears.
"Chloe, say something..." Fiona pleaded, beside herself with anxiety. Seeing Chloe like this, she had no idea how to comfort her.
Chloe pressed a hand against her chest and closed her eyes in agony. Her voice was hoarse and choked with emotion. "It hurts so much... Fiona, those people were killed because of me. I’m a sinner."
Fiona’s heart twisted at her words. She threw her arms around Chloe, her own voice trembling as she comforted her. "No, none of that was your fault. It was Vera Holloway and those mercenaries. They’re the ones who killed those people. They are the sinners. You’re innocent. You’ve been innocent from the very beginning."
