Chapter 123: Wolf vs Hyena

‘That tortoise monster is too tough! Even Flora’s attacks cannot pierce its shell. Do I have no other choice but to summon Nyx now?’

Oliver was struggling right now.

Flora was more specialized in controlling monsters and limiting their movements. Even her status-inflicting plants, such as sleep and stun, had little effect on Tenebros.

But he could not expect much more from her. Even though she was a Super Rare monster, she was still a support specialist, not a damage dealer.

Among all of his monsters, Onyx possessed the greatest firepower. However, Oliver was reluctant to reveal it as he did not want everyone here to see his monsters.

He knew that all of the remaining students were most likely watching this battle right now from the auditorium.

He still did not know who he could trust. Because of that, he needed to be careful. Every card he revealed now was one less surprise he could use in the future.

‘It seems I have no other choice.’

Oliver had already made his decision. He still had other options he could use. However, he was certain that if he chose them, Kai would undoubtedly bring out his SS Rank monster. And Oliver was not yet sure whether his own monsters were capable of fighting against it.

Suddenly, Kai jumped high into the air. Oliver immediately raised his head and then noticed Corvus flying close to Kai. A bad feeling suddenly appeared in his heart.

Then he noticed something else. Kai was closing his eyes. As Corvus flew beside him in the opposite direction, both of them opened their eyes simultaneously. Corvus only opened the single eye in the center.

“Begone! Feeble Whisper!”

Kai had finally used Corvus’ strongest skill. A

gust of wind swept across the battlefield. Immediately afterward, all of Corvus’ eyes closed and blood trickled from them as the crow let out a weak cry.

Then its body dissolved into countless dark feathers before returning to Kai. Corvus would be unable to fight for several days after using such a powerful ability.

Kai landed on the platform and looked toward Oliver and Flora. He then slowly relaxed his body, believing the battle was already over.

Feeble Whisper was one of his ultimate skills. It was a wide-area ability that caused all nearby enemies who made eye contact with him to gradually lose their senses one by one. Once someone was caught by it, no one had ever managed to escape.

However, something unexpected suddenly happened. Oliver suddenly appeared right in front of him. Kai’s eyes widened.

Oliver’s appearance had completely changed. His body was now covered in a costume woven from vines and flowers. Long pink hair flowed behind him, while a pair of sharp ears protruded from the sides of his head.

He was now synchronized with Flora.

Before Kai could react, Oliver raised his hand. Roots burst forth from his palm and they rapidly expanded before shooting toward Kai. The roots slammed into him and sent him backward.

“Keh!”

For the first time in the entire competition, Kai had been directly hit. Oliver did not stop as more roots emerged from his hand, pushing Kai farther and farther back.

Kai tried to regain his footing, but Oliver’s relentless assault gave him no opportunity. The roots continued pushing him toward the edge of the platform.

Oliver knew this was his chance.

He had maximized his Familiarity with Flora a few weeks ago after undergoing vigorous dungeon grinding together. The synchronization granted Oliver a new set of skills focused on controlling plants. It also allowed him to produce plants directly from his body, just like he was doing now.

Tenebros tried to rush forward and help its master. However, Oliver immediately summoned thick vines and bound its neck along with the necks of its two snake tails as the vines tightened like chains.

Oliver then clenched his fist. Immediately, the vines dragged Tenebros down and pinned its massive body firmly onto the platform. No matter how much it struggled, it could not move.

“Such power!”

Isaak was astonished by Oliver’s performance. He had been thoroughly enjoying their battle since it started. More importantly, he had always been curious about the student personally selected by Grandmaster Irmelia. Now, he was finally seeing the answer with his own eyes.

Meanwhile, Kai was nearing the edge of the platform. When he saw that his monster had been immobilized, he clenched his teeth. The situation had turned against him in an instant.

Then he let out a furious roar.

“Umbragore! Devour him!”

Suddenly, his shadow expanded across the entire platform. From within the darkness, Umbragore emerged between Oliver and Kai, shattering the roots that were pushing Kai back.

The colossal beast then strode toward Oliver, its terrifying aura surging outward as it released a deafening scream that echoed throughout the surroundings.

Oliver, however, was not afraid. In fact, he had been waiting for this exact moment.

“Husk!”

Husk immediately appeared in his original form, standing nearly five metres tall, and charged forward to clash with Umbragore.

The instant they collided, loud roars erupted from both creatures, shaking the entire platform. A violent surge of black and crimson aura exploded from their bodies, filling the void.

“What is that?!”

“He has another powerful monster?”

The students in the auditorium were shocked. Husk’s appearance was overwhelming, with a crimson aura covering its entire body. Its mere presence dominated the battlefield.

Kai was also surprised.

However, his shock only lasted for a few seconds. He still believed that Umbragore was the strongest monster here.

BOOM!!!

BOOM!!

Each time the two monsters clashed, an explosion erupted from the impact. Shockwaves spread across the platform as black and crimson energies collided repeatedly.

Oliver watched as Husk kept Umbragore occupied. He then shifted his gaze toward Kai. Just like before in the Hall of Castillon, darkness had already spread across nearly half of Kai’s body.

Oliver narrowed his eyes. Right now, he was still in synchronization form with Flora. And only one minute remained before the form ended.

He planned to make full use of every second he had left.
