Chapter 462: Zoro

"There you are!" Luffy said, jogging up to me. "You won’t believe this! Zoro said he’ll join my crew if I bring him his swords!"

I tilted my head. "That so?"

He nodded enthusiastically. "Yup! He’s tied up, though. Crazy guy’s been fasting for days, just waiting to be executed like it’s no big deal!"

I chuckled, amused by both the lunacy and loyalty that seemed to define Zoro. "Well, good thing I found these then." I slipped the cloth bundle from my shoulder and tossed it toward Luffy.

He caught it midair, eyes wide as he unraveled the cloth. "Whoa! You really got them! Wado Ichimonji and... all three!" His eyes sparkled like a kid handed a treasure chest. "You’re awesome, Alex!"

"Like I said—just redistributing stolen assets," I replied with a grin.

He stared at the swords for a second longer, then looked back at me. "Zoro said if I could find his swords, he’d trust me. He’s a good guy. Kinda scary—but a good guy."

"I know," I said softly, and I meant it. Even before meeting him, I knew what kind of man Zoro was. Loyal, unshakable, and terrifying when crossed. The kind of man you’d want watching your back.

We hurried through the courtyard toward the large stone building near the back of the base—an execution platform stood nearby. Koby was crouched behind a stack of barrels, looking nervous but focused, eyes darting back and forth as he kept watch.

He saw us and waved frantically. "Luffy! Alex! He’s still tied up in the yard. No guards right now—but they might be back soon!"

"Good job, Koby," I said, patting him on the shoulder as we passed. "You’re doing great."

His face turned red, but he beamed. The kid had guts. He just needed a little belief—and maybe someone to punch a Marine for him when things got rough.

We slipped into the courtyard. And there he was.

Zoro.

Tied to a wooden post, arms stretched wide, body bloodied but defiant. Even weakened and under the sun, his aura was impossible to ignore. His eyes snapped to us the moment we entered.

Luffy grinned and stepped forward, waving the bundle. "Oi! I brought your swords!"

Zoro’s eyes narrowed slightly, taking in both Luffy and me, before finally focusing on the cloth in his hands. "Tch... you actually did it, huh?"

"Of course!" Luffy said proudly. "And I brought someone with me too." He pointed a thumb toward me. "This is Alex. He’s the first member of my crew! So with you, that makes three!"

Zoro raised an eyebrow, giving me a long, assessing stare. "Hmph. You don’t look like a pirate."

I smiled faintly. "I get that a lot. For your knowledge, I am just a temporary member."

Zoro smirked, then let his head drop back against the post. "You give me my swords, I’ll cut my way out of here. But once I’m free... I’m yours. Just don’t get in my way."

"Deal," Luffy grinned as he handed over the bundle.

Zoro’s hands were still tied, so I stepped forward and drew a dagger from my belt, slicing through the ropes in one fluid motion.

His arms dropped to his sides as he grabbed the cloth, unwrapping it with care. The moment his hands touched Wado Ichimonji, his expression changed. Fierce. Focused. Like part of his soul had just been returned.

"Feels good," he murmured, then looked at me. "Thanks."

"No need," I replied. "Just make sure you don’t die. You’ve got a lot to do in this world."

That’s when we heard it.

"HEY! INTRUDERS!"

Koby’s voice rang out from the entrance of the yard.

I turned, already pulling up my hood and loosening my muscles. "Here we go..."

Luffy cracked his knuckles. Zoro slid all three swords into his sash with fluid grace. It was like watching a weapon being loaded.

"About time I stretched," Zoro muttered, stepping forward. "Let’s cut a path."
