Owned By The Psychotic Billionaire (Mafia BL)
Chapter 155: The Defiance I Now Crave
ORION’S POV
The leather steering wheel feels solid beneath my fingers, but I am not the one holding it.
I am sitting in the passenger seat of my own vehicle, my eyes locked on the profile of the man sitting beside me.
Adrien’s hands— adorned with those sharp, blood-red acrylic nails—grip the wheel tightly. The hem of his sundress rests against his thighs, and the light from the setting sun catches the smooth bob of his hair and the glossy shine of his red lipstick.
I am buzzing. My head is running so hot that my blood feels like liquid lightning racing through my veins.
I handed off the counter-offensives to Niko hours ago. I cleared my schedule, ignored the media blackout protocols, and abandoned every corporate strategy I had mapped out to crush the scandal surrounding his past.
None of that matters right now. Nothing in this city matters except the raw, pulsing reality of the man sitting next to me.
He didn’t break. He didn’t hide under the covers or weep into my chest like a fragile, damaged thing. Instead, he dressed himself up, took my keys, and seized control of my world in a single, breathtaking move.
The engine roars to life as Adrien slams his foot down on the accelerator. The car surges forward, spraying loose gravel across the pristine driveway of my estate as we tear toward the main gates.
The sudden force presses me back into the leather seat, my chest expanding with a sharp, ecstatic hit of adrenaline.
"Where are we going, duckling?" I ask, my voice laced with a dangerous, manic edge.
I am not asking because I am afraid. I am asking because the anticipation is a wild, clawing beast inside my chest.
Adrien doesn’t even glance at me. His eyes remain fixed on the winding road ahead. "Shut up and put your seatbelt on, pretty boy. I’m driving."
A sharp laugh bubbles up from my throat, vibrating through the quiet luxury of the car. I click the seatbelt into place, my fingers moving with swift, practiced ease, but my gaze never strays from his face.
"I didn’t even know you could drive," I murmur, leaning slightly toward him, my blown pupils drinking in every detail of his sharp jawline and those bold, red lips.
"Yet, you command me in my own vehicle. You hijack my evening while the entire city is hunting for a statement regarding your past. You really are extraordinary."
"Did I ask for your commentary?" Adrien cuts me off, his tone icy and completely dismissive. He flicks a glance at me through the edge of his white sunglasses, his red lips curving into a lazy, sharp smirk that sends a violent jolt straight down my spine.
"If you’re nervous, Orion, you can close your eyes. Otherwise, keep your mouth shut."
My smile widens, stretching so hard across my face that it feels completely unhinged. The sheer audacity of him, the pure, unyielding fire in his eyes, is the most intoxicating drug I have ever tasted.
I want to drag him into the backseat and let him feel the fire he’s lit in my blood.
I have spent years keeping him thinking of how to keep him caged, calculating every move to ensure he could never slip through my fingers again.
But seeing him like this— vibrant, aggressive, and taking the wheel with total confidence— doesn’t make me feel like I am losing him.
It makes me feel like I have finally awakened the monster in him that matches the monster in me.
He takes the turn out of the estate gates at a lethal speed, the tires screaming against the asphalt as he merges into the main traffic.
The city stretches out before us under a dark, purple evening sky.
The scandal, the leaked photographs, the news anchors dissecting his youth, the threat of the police looking into the engagement party bombing— it all shrinks into insignificance compared to the electric current humming inside this car.
"Niko is waiting for my signal regarding the press blackout tonight," I say softly, tapping my fingers against my knee in a fast, manic rhythm. "If we are heading toward the docks or anywhere close, I need to know so I can mobilize the perimeter teams. I won’t have anyone looking at you tonight unless I permit it."
"I told you to shut up," Adrien says, stepping harder on the gas to slide between two trucks with terrifying ease. "If I wanted Niko or your armed guards around, I would have dragged them along too. Are you dense, or are your ears just decorative?"
I let out a low, breathy chuckle, leaning my head back against the headrest without taking my eyes off him. I want to bite his tongue.
"You talk to me like I am nothing," I whisper, my voice dripping with manic delight. "You dismiss my empire as if it’s a minor inconvenience. Do you have any idea what that does to me, Adrien? It makes me want to burn the rest of the city down just to keep your focus on me."
"Keep talking like that and I’ll drop you off on the side of the highway," he warns, tapping one long, sharp red nail against the steering wheel in a steady, metallic click.
"You wouldn’t," I counter instantly, my tone calm and utterly sure. "You brought me along because you want an audience for whatever madness you’ve cooked up in that brilliant head of yours."
"I have your black card in my bag," he reminds me dryly, tapping the designer purse resting between our seats. "I don’t need you for a single thing. You’re just along for the ride."
The thrill that statement gives me is almost violent.
He thinks he is showing me his independence, but all I hear is that he chose to put me in the seat next to him when he could have easily tried to leave on his own.
He wants me here.
We drive for another twenty minutes, leaving the towering, suffocating skyscrapers of the central district behind.
The landscape shifts as the city gives way to wide commercial stretches and open highways. The towering glass buildings crumble away into distant outlines, replaced by sprawling structures and wide, paved complexes.
I shift in my seat, leaning forward to examine the route.
"Adrien," I say, my brows pulling together as a rare flicker of genuine curiosity cuts through my excitement. "Where are we going? There are no private properties out here. Nothing owned by me, at least."
"We’re here," Adrien says smoothly, flicking the turn signal with a sharp click of his fingernail and sweeping the vehicle into a massive, sprawling parking lot.
He guides the car past rows of cheap family sedans, beat-up vans, and domestic vehicles, steering us straight toward a marked space near the main plaza entrance.
He kills the engine, and the sudden silence inside the car is heavy and charged.
I lean over the dashboard, staring out the front windshield.
Directly ahead stands a colossal, arching gateway glowing under the blinding flare of thousands of flashing neon lightbulbs.
Towering beyond the arch are the giant, skeletal steel frames of roller coasters cutting into the evening twilight, a massive, spinning Ferris wheel glowing in bright neon pink and blue, and the distant, muffled noise of carnival music, loud crowds, and the scent of fried sugar drifting through the evening air.
It is an amusement park.
I stare at the flashing lights, my mind stalling for a fraction of a second as it attempts to reconcile the chaotic, bright public fairground with the high-stakes war currently waging over our names in the media.
"An amusement park?" I ask, my voice dropping into a low, incredulous hum. I turn my head slowly to look at him, my dark eyes searching his face. "Adrien... you brought us to a public playground?"
Adrien unbuckles his seatbelt with a crisp, deliberate click, picking up his white handbag and slinging it effortlessly over his forearm.
He turns to me, pulling his white sunglasses down just far enough for his dark, heavily lined eyes to lock onto mine. His painted red lips pull back into a sharp, triumphant smile that radiates pure power.
"You said we were dealing with exhausting shit," he says, his tone cool. "You said the world is burning around us. Well, I’m not sitting in your mansion brooding like a ghost over some old news stories, and I am certainly not going to hide like a rat while people talk about me."
You have makeup on, my dear.
He leans across the center console, bringing his face so close to mine that I can smell the subtle, sweet fragrance on his skin.
He reaches out, trailing two razor-sharp, blood-red nails up my tie, over my collar, and resting them against my throat, right over my hammering pulse.
"You bought me flowers and chocolates like we’re on a date," he whispers, his breath warm against my lips. "So take me on a date, Orion. We’re going inside. You’re going to buy me cotton candy, you’re going to win me every ridiculous prize in that park, and you’re going to watch me enjoy every second of it."
My chest rises and falls heavily as I look at him. The sheer, unadulterated madness of his choice— bringing a targeted billionaire and a disgraced public figure into a crowded, bright carnival in broad daylight— is the most magnificent display of defiance I have ever witnessed.
He isn’t hiding from the fire. He is using it to light his own way.
"And if I refuse to let you step into a crowd without thirty armed guards surrounding you?" I ask, my voice dropping into a dangerous, dark purr, my grip tightening on the edge of my seat.
Adrien pulls back, pushing the driver’s side door open and stepping out into the cool evening air with effortless grace, his sundress fluttering around his legs.
He leans over the open door frame, smirking down at me like a king looking at a loyal subject.
"Then I’ll go in alone and find someone else to buy it for me," he says lightly, his eyes flashing with lethal confidence. "You have ten seconds to get out of the car, pretty boy."
