Pampering Discarded Heroines Triggers My 10,000x Rebate System
Chapter 122: Sub-Level 5
Cold midnight rain washed over the cobblestones of the Imperial Capital.
Three cloaked figures moved through the narrow alleyways behind the commercial district, blending into the wet shadows. High above, the neon-lit spire of the Aethelgard Pharmaceutical Tower pierced the clouds like a glowing needle.
Evren walked at an easy pace with his hands tucked into his coat pockets. To his left, Amber kept her hand on the pommel of her crimson saber, while Zephyra scouted ten paces ahead, moving soundlessly over the wet stone.
As they turned toward the western drainage canal, Amber glanced at the glowing tower. "Evren," she murmured, keeping her voice low. "Why couldn’t we take this to the authorities?"
Evren didn’t break stride. "What authorities?"
"Grand Arbiter Kincaid, or the Imperial Commerce Magistracy," Amber replied. "Walter has the debt contracts, medical records, and poisoned men. That should be enough for an emergency injunction."
Evren gave a faint, humorless smile. "Under normal laws, maybe," he said smoothly. "In this city, the law belongs to whoever holds the purse strings."
He gestured toward the distant administrative towers of the High Council.
"Elder Caldwell sits on the executive oversight board," Evren continued. "Aethelgard Cartel supplies half the pharmaceutical subsidies to the Capital’s private legions. They have magistrates and clerks on their payroll."
Amber frowned, understanding immediately.
"The moment we file an emergency petition," Evren said, "Caldwell’s faction gets notified. Within ten minutes, Director Vane would send an execution squad down to Sub-Level 4."
"They would silence Calista Vesper," Amber realized with a cold chill.
"They would kill her, torch the laboratory, and dump the evidence into the canal before an inspector signed a warrant," Evren confirmed. "Besides, legal hearings take weeks. Walter’s men have thirty-eight hours before their legs are amputated."
Zephyra halted at the end of the alley, raising a gloved hand. "We’ve reached the western storm canal, my lord," she reported in a whisper.
In front of them was a deep drainage trench with dark storm water rushing toward the river. A large iron floodgate protruded from the tower’s foundation wall, sealed with heavy steel bars and glowing purple runes.
Evren checked his slate. It was eleven-fifty-four.
"One minute until the maintenance window," Zephyra noted.
The three of them waited in the shadow of the stone bridge.
Right at eleven-fifty-five, a mechanical clunk echoed from the drainage wall. The glowing purple runes on the floodgate flickered, dimming to a faint amber as the system cycled into low-power diagnostic mode.
"The mag-lock is down," Zephyra whispered.
She leaped forward, gliding across the churning water like a shadow. Her shadow whip-blade uncoiled from her wrist, slipping between the iron bars to flick the release latch on the inner frame.
With a soft hiss of hydraulic pressure, the heavy iron gate swung open.
Zephyra pulled it wide enough to squeeze through, signaling toward Evren and Amber.
Evren and Amber crossed the canal in a blur, slipping through the gap onto the concrete catwalk of Sub-Level 4. Zephyra pushed the gate shut behind them, resetting the latch so the perimeter sensors wouldn’t trigger.
The air inside the tunnel was warm and humid, carrying the stench of decaying chemicals mixed with sewage.
Evren looked around the vast subterranean hall.
According to the blueprints Zephyra had obtained, this floor was supposed to house the cartel’s primary alchemical refinery and crucible laboratory.
Yet all that surrounded them were towering steel filtration tanks, rumbling centrifuges, and automated conveyor belts moving crates of basic disinfectant.
There were no high-grade cauldrons. There were no celestial herbs, and there was no trace of Calista Vesper.
Amber inspected a stack of crates, brushing dust off a shipping label. "Standard industrial packaging," she said with a tight expression. "This is just a municipal processing plant."
Zephyra pulled the rolled blueprint from her coat, checking the schematics under a dim amber light. "The public works registry listed Sub-Level 4 as the final bedrock foundation," she murmured with confusion. "The city records show solid granite beneath this slab."
Evren knelt down, pressing his palm flat against the floor.
He closed his eyes, extending his kinetic senses into the stone.
Within seconds, his senses bypassed the concrete slab. Beneath it, there was no solid granite. Instead, he felt deep vibrations humming through the earth... heavy turbines, electrical conduits, and intense heat venting from far below.
Evren stood back up with a calm, dangerous gleam in his gaze. "The municipal blueprints were falsified," he said smoothly.
Amber looked down at the floor in disbelief. "They dug deeper?"
"Much deeper," Evren replied. "There is a massive black-site facility carved directly into the bedrock. This floor is just a hollow shell built to satisfy city inspectors."
"A cover story," Zephyra whispered. "Then there must be a concealed entrance."
Zephyra immediately followed the heavy power cables running across the ceiling.
Three minutes later, she stopped behind a row of disconnected transformer cabinets.
"Found it, my lord," Zephyra called out quietly.
Evren and Amber joined her. Hidden behind a false ventilation grating was a reinforced hydraulic blast hatch, sealed with biometric pads and marked with classified Level-5 clearances.
"Can you bypass the lock?" Amber asked.
Zephyra inspected the wiring. "The biometric scanner requires executive blood authentication. Prying it open will trigger the localized alarm."
"Step back," Evren said calmly.
He placed his bare hand against the center of the heavy blast hatch.
Without generating a single spark of mana, Evren channeled pure kinetic pressure through his fingers. The hydraulic bolts inside the frame groaned, buckling under forty thousand tons of focused physical force.
With a muffled crunch, the heavy locking pins sheared in half.
Evren pulled the circular hatch upward, revealing a vertical service shaft dropping straight down into darkness.
A metal ladder was bolted to the concrete wall, illuminated by dim red emergency strips.
"I’ll take point," Zephyra said, slipping down the ladder.
Amber followed, and Evren pulled the blast hatch closed behind them, descending silently into the depths.
They climbed down thirty meters before reaching a metal grating. Zephyra pushed open the access trapdoor, and the three of them dropped onto the catwalk of Sub-Level 5.
The temperature dropped noticeably. The stench of sewage was gone, replaced by the sharp, metallic tang of pressurized ozone.
Before them stretched a long corridor constructed entirely from polished adamantine panels.
Overhead, red laser tripwires crisscrossed the air in shifting geometric patterns, sweeping the floor at five-second intervals.
Along both sides of the corridor, mechanical alcoves were built into the walls. Inside each alcove stood a six-foot-tall mechanized combat drone, constructed with reinforced titanium plating and multi-jointed blade limbs.
"Automaton foundry," Zephyra observed in a whisper. "This is an automated perimeter defense floor."
At the far end of the corridor, a heavy blast door blocked the passage to the next sublevel. A glowing red control console stood beside it, completely sealed.
"The cartel doesn’t even use human guards here," Amber noted, studying the sleeping machines. "They rely on mechanical sentries so nobody can leak what’s below."
Evren stepped onto the catwalk, mapping the laser sweep patterns.
"Move along the blind spots," Evren instructed softly. "If we trip a sensor, the entire line wakes up."
Zephyra blurred into motion, twisting through the crimson laser grid with incredible flexibility. She cleared twenty meters in five seconds, landing smoothly behind a steel pillar.
Amber followed right behind, using focused flame steps to slip beneath the scanning beams without disturbing the air.
Evren simply walked forward, precisely calculating the trajectory of each beam. He stepped through the narrow gaps between the sweeping lasers, his dark coat clearing the light beams by less than an inch.
They reached the halfway point of the corridor without an issue.
Suddenly, an acoustic click echoed from the central ventilation duct above.
A tiny secondary motion sensor, hidden inside the intake vent, flared bright amber.
BEEP-BEEP.
A harsh electronic klaxon shrieked through the vaulted hall.

Across the corridor, the dim alcoves flashed blinding red.
Hydraulic pistons hissed with deafening force as twelve adamantine combat drones detached from their wall docks. Their optical visors flared blood-red, and their multi-jointed limbs unfolded with terrifying speed.
High-frequency rotary saws and crackling stun blades spun to life with high-pitched whines.
Amber drew her twin crimson sabers. Their edges ignited with bright phoenix fire, casting dancing shadows across the steel walls.
Zephyra uncoiled her shadow whip-blade, its dark wire humming with tension.
"They’re blocking the blast door," Amber said, her brown eyes blazing with battle intent.
Evren stood at the center of the catwalk, his expression completely calm as the twelve mechanized automatons raised their weapons and charged forward.
"Clear the floor," Evren instructed calmly. "Make sure not a single one transmits to the surface."
