Chapter 84: Chapter #84: The First Boss!

"Oh, a hunter, are ya? And an outsider?"

Deep inside a hidden, dilapidated building overlooking the sewers, Ruby encountered a mysterious woman wearing a plague doctor’s beak mask and a cape woven entirely from black feathers.

At first, Ruby had instinctively tightened her grip on her weapon, assuming it was just another twisted enemy hiding in the shadows. But as she cautiously approached, a button prompt appeared, indicating she could actually talk to the stranger.

This extreme paranoia wasn’t unjustified. Yharnam was a labyrinth of death where enemies constantly lurked in the darkest corners.

In this cursed city, it wasn’t just the human residents who had gone completely rabid. Dogs with rotting, festering skin and giant, mutated crows lashed out at the player with irrational ferocity. Down in the aqueducts, massive, mutated rats ambushed players the second they dropped off a ledge.

The crow-feathered hunter spoke softly, her voice carrying the warm, intellectual tone of an older sister.

[What a mess you’ve been caught up in. And tonight, of all nights...]

The NPC introduced herself as Eileen the Crow.

She explained that there were virtually no sane humans left in the streets; they had all degenerated into blood-starved beasts.

Listening to her, Ruby couldn’t help but remember the massive werewolf she had seen being burned alive at the central bonfire. Was a true Hunter supposed to be afraid of a few monsters? Yes. If they lost their fear, they were no different from the beasts they hunted.

Eileen encouraged her not to let the fear paralyze her. A Hunter’s nature was to hunt.

But she also offered a chilling warning: never indulge too deeply in the thrill of the slaughter, lest the Hunter eventually become the hunted.

The lore was fascinating, but the mechanical reality of Bloodborne was far more brutal. In this game, the player’s life was as cheap as dirt. The protagonist possessed the defensive capabilities of a wet paper bag. There was absolutely no ’main character plot armor’ here.

It didn’t matter how spectacular the photorealistic graphics were; if a crazed Yharnamite hit you with a rusted pitchfork, it instantly carved away sixty percent of your health bar. Elite enemies could completely stunlock a player to death before they even had a chance to press the dodge button.

If a player accidentally pulled aggro on more than two enemies at once, they were practically guaranteed to die before they could even identify what weapons the mob was holding.

When players knocked on the locked doors of the sane residents seeking shelter, the NPCs would furiously scream at them through the wood, cursing them as a "despicable outsider!"

Originally, it was just a piece of immersive dialogue to showcase the xenophobia of the Yharnamites. But very quickly, the global player base began to take that insult as a badge of honor.

If the game was going to be this brutally unfair, the players were going to be just as despicable.

Across the streaming platforms, players were discovering incredibly dirty tactics to survive. They spammed Molotov cocktails, abused poison throwing knives, and constantly lured enemies into geographical choke points.

Different streamers were carving their own unique, traumatizing paths through the game.

Silver had just fought his way up to the Great Bridge.

As he cleared the stone archway, his blood ran cold. Patrolling the center of the massive bridge were two towering Scourge Beasts.

The sheer, primal panic of his very first death in Iosefka’s Clinic instantly flooded his mind. Encountering one werewolf was a nightmare. Seeing two of them pacing together completely shattered his psychological defenses.

He swallowed hard. "Okay, we are definitely not fighting them right now... we’re just going to run."

After dying to the Executioner in the alleyway a dozen times, Silver had realized a fundamental truth about Nova’s game design: some monsters were completely optional. You could just sprint past them.

Right now, evasion was his only strategy.

"As you guys know, in a Nova game, there is absolutely no shame in playing like a coward to protect your blood echoes," Silver rationalized out loud. He locked onto the werewolves, baited their lunge animations, and furiously rolled past them.

He sprinted for his life, desperately defending his cowardly gameplay to the chat.

[

Toxic_Timmy: Bro is running for his life! Just git gud!

GamerDad88: Where exactly are you running to?! The bridge is a dead end!

shroud: The PTSD from the clinic is actually real.

NoobSlayer_99: I don’t blame him, those things literally two-shot you.

Silver wanted to run, but the Great Bridge was far too wide, offering absolutely zero cover. Just as his stamina bar was about to deplete, his sharp eyes spotted an open doorway leading into a dark, two-story house on the left side of the bridge.

He practically threw his character through the doorway.

"Holy shit, that was close!" Silver gasped, taking his hand off the mouse to wipe his brow.

But just as he started to relax, the subtle audio engine picked up the sickening sound of a blade scraping against the floorboards.

Silver instantly snapped his hands back to his peripherals and panic-rolled sideways.

A Yharnamite emerged from the pitch-black shadows, violently swinging a meat cleaver at the exact spot Silver had just been standing.

"I fucking knew there was going to be an ambush in this dark-ass corner!" Silver yelled, his adrenaline spiking. Because he was already intimately familiar with the attack patterns of the standard trash mobs, he quickly parried the villager and executed him with a visceral attack.

After clearing out the dark room, Silver looked back toward the open doorway with intense dread. He knew the two massive werewolves had chased him all the way to the threshold.

But the moment he looked at the door frame, he completely froze.

The two colossal beasts were roaring and furiously swiping their razor-sharp claws at the entrance. But because the photorealistic collision physics were perfectly mapped to the geometry, their massive shoulders were too wide to fit through the human-sized doorframe. They were completely stuck outside.

Silver cautiously crept toward the door, his Saw Cleaver raised.

After verifying that the beasts physically couldn’t push through the invisible geometry wall, a manic, wicked grin spread across his face.

He stepped right up to the threshold and began spamming his heavy attack.

The serrated blade ripped into the helpless werewolves. The advanced fluid dynamics of the engine sprayed spectacular, high-definition arcs of deep red blood across the cobblestones and the doorframe with every single swing.

He brutally and methodically cheesed the two terrifying demons to death through a wooden doorframe.

[

xQc: AINT NO WAY HE JUST CHEESED THEM LIKE THAT LOL

LoreMaster: The legendary Door Cheese! Truly a despicable outsider!]

PixelRonin: 999 IQ PLAY. WORK SMARTER NOT HARDER.

Asmongold_Bald: Other streamers are literally crying and uninstalling right now, and this guy is exploiting door frames.

IronVanguard: Honestly? Those two wolves look more depressed than the players do.

]

With the two major threats out of the way, the remaining mobs on the bridge were incredibly easy to clean up. Because he had saved all his resources by cheesing the werewolves, Silver happily spammed his Molotov cocktails to incinerate the remaining crows and villagers.

Pushing forward, the dense fog slightly cleared, revealing a magnificent, towering gothic cathedral at the end of the bridge, crowned by a massive clock tower.

As Silver confidently jogged toward the cathedral gates, a terrifying, ear-piercing screech shattered the ambient silence.

Suddenly, a colossal, skeletal monstrosity leaped over the high stone walls of the bridge. The beast crashed onto the cobblestones with a deafening thud, sending a shockwave of dust and debris across the screen.

Staring at the horrific, asymmetrical beast that was easily five times taller than the protagonist, Silver’s jaw completely dropped.

The ray-traced lighting caught the matted, blood-soaked fur and exposed, pulsing muscle tissue of the monster. The graphical rendering was so insanely lifelike it genuinely made his stomach turn.

Compared to this towering nightmare, the werewolves looked like harmless little puppies.

A massive boss health bar materialized at the bottom of the screen.

[Cleric Beast]

"So this is the fucking boss!"
