Chapter 628:Let’s Forget The Sorrow

Chapter 628: 628:Let’s Forget The Sorrow

Randall let out a long sigh after hearing the confession from the prisoner. As he looked at the four trembling men kneeling helplessly on the ground, the final pieces of the matter slowly fell into place inside his mind. His eyes narrowed slightly as everything finally started making sense.

"So it was Marquise Shatad who sent people to spread infamy about my Lord."

His voice carried obvious displeasure because even he had not expected a noble to stoop so low and use such methods during a time of war.

Standing nearby, Noel rubbed his forehead heavily before speaking. His face was filled with disbelief as he let out a tired sigh.

"Isn’t this guy stupid?"

He genuinely looked confused.

"Such a bratty trick is bound to be found out sooner or later, and once people start tracing the rumors back to their source, it would only create more trouble for him."

Randall simply shrugged his shoulders and folded his arms across his chest.

"It’s because he doesn’t care."

He glanced toward the prisoners before continuing.

"Even if we find out the truth, what can we realistically do right now? The man is still a Marquise of the Empire."

After saying that, Randall instinctively looked toward Ethan.

The moment his eyes landed on him, he froze briefly.

Ethan’s expression had completely darkened.

There was no visible rage yet somehow, that made him look far more frightening.

His eyes had turned cold and grim while his face remained completely expressionless. It was the look of someone who was extremely pissed off and trying very hard not to show it openly.

Noel and Randall exchanged uneasy glances.

Both of them felt a slight chill crawl down their backs.

"My Lord... what are you going to do?" Noel finally asked carefully, watching Ethan’s face with caution.

Ethan did not answer him.

Instead, he calmly looked toward the shadows behind him.

"Maverick."

The moment the name left his mouth...

SWISH!

A figure instantly emerged from the darkness.

Maverick appeared beside Ethan as if he had always been standing there, silently waiting for orders. He stood upright without making a sound.

The two men exchanged a brief glance.

Not a single extra word was spoken.

Years of working together had created an understanding between them that few others could comprehend.

Maverick immediately understood what Ethan wanted.Without wasting a single second, he slowly raised both arms.

Several magical circles instantly appeared around him.The runes rotated rapidly while bright light filled the entire tent.

Powerful waves of mana surged throughout the surroundings. The floor beneath them trembled slightly as the energy spread in every direction.

A moment later, a large portal slowly opened directly before everyone. The space itself twisted and distorted while a dark passage appeared in the middle of the tent.

The four prisoners immediately became terrified.

"W-Wait!"

"What are you doing?"

"Please!"

"We already told you everything!"

The panic in their voices became obvious as they desperately struggled to crawl backward.

Unfortunately for them, nobody paid any attention.

Ethan casually waved his hand.Several chains of light shot forward instantly.

SWISH!

The glowing chains wrapped tightly around all four prisoners.

Before they could resist, the chains dragged them violently toward the portal.

"AAAAHHHH!"

Their desperate screams echoed throughout the tent. The next moment, all four disappeared into the portal.

Without hesitation, Ethan stepped forward.

His face remained cold.

His eyes remained dark.

Without saying another word, he entered the portal and vanished.

Silence immediately filled the tent.

Noel blinked twice, still staring at the place where Ethan had disappeared.

Then he slowly turned toward Randall.

"Should we enter?"

Randall stared at him as if he had just asked the most ridiculous question imaginable.

"Damned!"

"Of course we should enter."

A grin slowly appeared on his face.

"Can’t miss such entertainment."

"Gooo!"

The moment he finished speaking, Randall rushed toward the portal without the slightest hesitation.

Noel immediately followed behind him.

The others did not hesitate either.

One after another, they disappeared into the portal.

.......

Meanwhile, inside another section of the military barracks, the atmosphere was completely different from the tense mood elsewhere.

For most soldiers, these days were filled with exhaustion, uncertainty, and constant pressure because nobody knew how long the war would continue or whether they would survive long enough to see its end.

Every day brought fresh casualties and a great deal of pressure.Despite all this, there were still people who found time to enjoy themselves.

Inside one luxurious command tent, Marquise Shatad sat comfortably around a large wooden table alongside Marquise Ivan and Marquis Marco.

Expensive wine bottles rested across the table.

Several trays of high-quality food had been carefully prepared nearby.

Compared to the ordinary soldiers struggling outside, the three nobles looked far too comfortable.

Shatad slowly swirled the wine inside his glass before taking a long sip. He leaned back in his chair with a look of annoyance.

"This war..."

He clicked his lips in irritation.

"God knows how long it’s going to last, and honestly speaking, I am already tired of this damned battlefield."

He leaned farther backward in his chair and shook his head with obvious frustration.

"I haven’t tasted a woman for many days."

Marquise Ivan immediately laughed and rested an elbow on the table.

"Don’t we have prostitutes available in camp?"

He raised an eyebrow playfully.

Shatad immediately snorted.

"How can they compare to the delicate ladies I like?"

His expression carried obvious dissatisfaction.

Marco nodded in agreement while taking another sip from his glass.

"You are correct about that."

He sighed dramatically.

"I am missing my personal masseuse a lot."

"Tsk."

"Those delicate hands."

Shatad pointed toward him immediately.

"See?"

"At least someone understands my suffering."

The three nobles laughed loudly.

Ivan grabbed another bottle and poured more wine into everyone’s glasses.

"Stop with this shit."

"Don’t make me remember."

He shook his head dramatically before lifting his glass.

"Let’s just drink and forget the sorrow."

The others immediately raised their glasses.

"Agreed."

The three nobles were just about to drink.

Then suddenly a cold voice echoed from behind them.

"There is no need to drink."

The three nobles froze instantly.

Their smiles disappeared as they slowly turned around. The voice continued calmly.

"Because I am going to personally help you forget all your sorrow."

The smiles on their faces immediately disappeared.
