After talking to Taoming Ye for quite a while, seeing that he was still unconscious and didn’t respond to her even once, Su Xing’s eyes dimmed for a moment before she smiled and said, "Husband, good night."

She leaned in and kissed him on the lips before closing her eyes. She didn’t turn off the light and slept like that, lying beside him.

In the middle of the night, Taoming Ye groggily woke up, the pain in his back making him suck in a breath of cold air. He wanted to struggle to get up but saw the room was still lit, and his wife was lying asleep next to him.

Seeing her asleep, yet with her brows furrowed as if burdened by a heavy heart, made him feel some heartache.

Despite the pain in his back, he reached out with his distinctively jointed hand and gently touched her furrowed brow, hoping to smooth it out so she could have a peaceful sleep.

But instead of helping her sleep better, his touch woke her up.

Su Xing, still groggy from sleep, opened her eyes and saw her husband touching her brow. She murmured sleepily, "Husband."

"Mm," Taoming Ye responded softly.

His gentle reply was magical to her. Su Xing finally stopped frowning and closed her eyes comfortably, but just for a moment, before she suddenly opened them again, looking in disbelief at the man lying beside her.

The man indeed had his eyes open and was looking at her gently and with a smile.

Not believing her eyes, Su Xing rubbed them, and when she realized it wasn’t an illusion, she began to cry, "I thought you wouldn’t wake up, sob sob..."

Seeing Su Xing cry, Taoming Ye hurriedly embraced her, not caring if his back hurt. He just focused on comforting her, coaxing her gently, "Xin’er, don’t cry. It’s all my fault for making you worry. Don’t cry, please."

"What are you doing getting up? Lie down, lie down! Don’t you know that you have an injury on your back? Are you trying to scare me to death? Lie down, lie down!" Thinking about his back injury that had only begun to heal, Su Xing was terrified that if it tore open again, he might fall back into unconsciousness. She didn’t let him hug her and urged him to lie back down.

Seeing her so worried, Taoming Ye obediently lay back down, still smiling at her gently.

"Sorry for what?" Su Xing still wouldn’t let it go.

Taoming Ye shook his head, holding firm to his conviction, "If it happens again, I’ll still protect you. My health may not be good, but I have a heart that wants to protect you. Protecting you makes me very happy. To me, you being safe is more important than anything."

Su Xing was so moved that she started crying again.
