Peerless Medical Emperor
Chapter 395 Braving the Tiger Mountain
Although we now live in a civilized society where you can’t just kill people wantonly,
the people who made this decision were likely blacklisted.
As for getting ahead in life, they could forget about it.
If things went badly, they might end up spending the rest of their lives behind bars.
Seeing Chen Qingdi’s aggressive gaze, Liu Xiangyang was so terrified his bones felt like jelly. His entire body slid off the chair, collapsing onto the floor like a boneless heap.
“Long Shou, spare me!”
If he hadn’t been given this fake medicine, the Seventh Elder could have lived for another three to five years. Now, his life was on a countdown, all thanks to these man-eating “experts.”
Long Shou snorted.
“Qinghai, I’m putting you in charge of handling everyone involved. Qingdi, you will assist in getting to the bottom of this. If anyone dares to interfere—I don’t care what their background is or who they’re connected to—investigate them all without fail! Anyone who tries to pull strings or plead on their behalf will be treated as an accomplice!”
Housekeeper Murong Qinghai clapped his hands, and a group of armed Imperial Guards immediately entered. The guards produced enough silver bracelets to put a pair on every expert in the room.
Murong Qinghai waved his hand, and all of them were led away.
Long Shou snorted. “Don’t be afraid to turn things upside down or break a few pots and pans. As the ancients said, you can’t build the new without destroying the old. If anyone dares to stand in your way, tell them to come talk to me!”
As soon as he said this, everyone knew that Long Shou was utterly furious.
Once this massive, dark affair was investigated, it was bound to cause an unprecedented earthquake. A great many “tigers” and “flies” would certainly be caught.
After all, the pharmaceutical industry was a huge, juicy piece of meat.
Anyone with the power to do so wanted to come in and take a bite.
Chen Qingdi saw Long Shou coughing slightly. He knew the old man’s age, combined with his heart-straining rage, meant his body would need careful recuperation. So, he helped Long Shou back to his residence.
Long Shou clutched his chest, his expression one of extreme discomfort.
Chen Qingdi quickly came to his side and began massaging him to relieve the pressure on his heart.
After a long while, some color returned to Long Shou’s face.
He gave a bitter laugh.
“Qingdi, you’ve saved me again.”
Chen Qingdi said, “It’s what I ought to do.”
Long Shou closed his eyes, lost in thought. Chen Qingdi didn’t know what to say, so he just waited nearby, ready to handle any sudden developments.
Just as he thought Long Shou had tiredly drifted off to sleep, he suddenly heard the man’s low voice.
“Qingdi, tell me, how could these people bring themselves to harm patients who are utterly helpless? Does their conscience not hurt them at all?”
The topic was too heavy. Chen Qingdi felt he was out of his depth and couldn’t handle it, so he just gave a wry smile and didn’t answer.
After a long moment, Long Shou let out a desolate sigh.
“‘Humans die for wealth as birds die for food.’ With profit as their only guide, they would brave a mountain of blades or a sea of fire. It’s absolute lawlessness! Qingdi, I’m fine here. Go and assist Qinghai. No matter who it is, if they’ve had a hand in this, see to it that they are utterly crushed!”
Chen Qingdi stood by Long Shou’s side, listening quietly to his orders.
“Of course, I’m not this furious just because of the Seventh Elder. I know it. Among the countless people in this world, how many others have suffered after taking fake medicine? Where is the path to justice for them? If we don’t root out these parasites, the Dragon Country will never know peace!”
Then he called for his personal secretary, Li Qingfeng, and ordered him to get him a sleeping pill, as he needed to rest for a while.
Chen Qingdi wanted to warn him about the side effects of sleeping pills and how long-term use wasn’t good for the brain. But on second thought, he remembered how Long Shou worked tirelessly from dawn till dusk. ‘He probably has very few opportunities to sleep as it is.’
‘Without some kind of sleep aid, he probably can’t fall asleep at all.’
He sighed and quietly left the room.
Outside, he happened to run into Murong Qinghai.
“That Liu Xiangyang is a tough nut to crack. He hasn’t said a word since he got to the interrogation room. Brother, we’ll have to rely on you.”
Without another word, Chen Qingdi followed him to the interrogation room.
Inside, he found Liu Xiangyang handcuffed to a chair. A bright spotlight was aimed at his face.
He waved his hand. “Get rid of all this. I’m just here to chat with an old friend. Turn off the recording equipment, too.”
So far, this suspect was of considerable importance. Moreover, his health was poor, so they couldn’t use any extreme measures.
As soon as Chen Qingdi sat down across from Liu Xiangyang, the man let out a huge yawn.
“I’m sleepy. I want to go to sleep.”
Chen Qingdi walked over to Liu Xiangyang and felt for his pulse.
“Expert Liu, you’ve kept yourself in excellent shape. No illnesses, no ailments. Since you’re sleepy, go ahead and sleep. Don’t worry, with me here, even if Black and White Impermanence themselves came to drag you away, I have the power to snatch you right off the Naihe Bridge. So, you’d better confess everything you need to in the Mortal World before you go!”
He was warning Liu Xiangyang.
‘Don’t even think about killing yourself, you bastard. As long as I’m here, you won’t get your wish.’
Liu Xiangyang closed his eyes wearily and ignored him.
Chen Qingdi was very patient. He just watched from the side and didn’t have anyone wake him.
Two hours later, Liu Xiangyang still showed no signs of waking.
He stepped forward and jabbed a few acupoints on Liu Xiangyang, including the philtrum, and Liu Xiangyang woke up instantly.
“Are you trying to torture a confession out of me?”
Chen Qingdi glanced at the interrogation staff standing by and smiled.
“I am a doctor, and what I performed was authentic acupuncture. That’s a completely different concept from torture!”
He called Murong Qinghai over.
“Let the professionals do their job. I’m only responsible for waking him up. Getting him to open his mouth is your department.”
Liu Xiangyang stared at Chen Qingdi, his face full of venomous hatred.
“You bastard surnamed Chen, you’ve ruined my plans again! Even if I become a vengeful ghost, I’ll drag you to hell with me!”
Chen Qingdi sneered.
“I told you, if you don’t confess everything you’re supposed to, you won’t even get the chance to become a vengeful ghost!”
Liu Xiangyang snorted.
“We’ll just wait and see! If you keep wasting time with me here, that old bastard, the Seventh Elder, might not even make it through the night!”
The people standing nearby were so angry they wanted to teach Liu Xiangyang a lesson, but Chen Qingdi stopped them.
“Just treat it like watching a clumsy monkey show. We have plenty of time to wear him down. Housekeeper Murong, I’m leaving him to you. I’m going to check on the Seventh Elder!”
Because Chen Qingdi had been granted the highest authority for this operation, he could see anyone he wanted with ease. Before long, he was led to the Seventh Elder’s hospital room.
No one could have imagined that the Seventh Elder, who had been so hale and hearty just six months ago, was now nothing but skin and bones.
Chen Qingdi could feel a terrifying aura of death filling the room.
Aside from being biologically human, the man no longer had any independent consciousness.
