Pioneer Lord: I Have Conquering System
Chapter 376 - 266: Finally on the Grand Stage
Levi took the orange and ate it in one bite. Whether it was because of the lovely sight before him or something else, the orange wasn’t as sour as usual. Instead, it was exceptionally sweet.
He looked at Sophia like a Demon scaring a mischievous child and said in a low voice, "Something’s happened. A Demon Army of several hundred thousand has surrounded Kolon. I just exchanged a few blows with them. Among their ranks were the Eight-armed Snake Demon and the Balrog Flame Demon. You must know of these two Demons; their power is truly terrifying. Back when the Ancient Elf Empire ruled the land and the Elements were dense, those two creatures were true Legends."
At these words, the Silver Dragon Maiden’s little heart trembled with fear. She was a True Dragon who had received her ancestral memories, which naturally contained information about Demons. She knew Levi wasn’t lying.
Only adult Giant Dragons could fight those two creatures. As a teenage dragon, she was no match for them at all.
"I have no idea how those two Demons found out there’s a dragon in Kolon. They’re preparing to capture it, make soup with its Keel, pan-fry its Dragon Heart..." the Lord said, feigning a look of complete confusion. But before he could finish, the Silver Dragon Maiden, who had already shot up from her seat, interrupted him.
She trotted to a corner, squatted down, and frantically rummaged through her belongings. A moment later, a small cashmere satchel embroidered with Gold Coins was hanging from her waist.
"What are you doing?"
The Lord was stunned.
"Running away, of course!" Sophia said with her hands on her hips, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world. She even began to earnestly persuade the Lord. "Levi, I’m telling you, you should run with me! We can’t handle those two Demons. If we stay, we’ll just end up as ingredients in their stew."
"Only the adult Giant Dragons from Dragon Island or some Legendary Dragon Species can handle creatures like that. I’ll take you with me and we’ll escape to High Cliff Castle. There’s no way they can catch us!"
Fearing she might have hurt the Lord’s pride, she even added a word of comfort. "It’s not running away. It’s a strategic retreat! When I’m an adult, I’ll definitely eat them all!"
Watching this unfold, Heather had to pinch her thigh to keep from laughing out loud, leaving her with an expression that was halfway between a laugh and a grimace. "Lord Levi, why must you tease her like this for no reason?"
Only this somewhat naive Dragon Vein Maiden would believe such a story.
From what Heather knew of him, if the enemy were truly that powerful, the first one to bolt would have been Levi himself.
He might seem reckless, charging headfirst into every situation, but Heather knew that was just an illusion created by his overwhelming strength. He never made a move until he was certain of his superiority, and only then would he strike to seal the deal.
Especially now, with him having the leisure to sit here and eat. He didn’t look at all like someone who was surrounded by a Demon Army.
Levi looked at Sophia, whose moods changed as quickly as the river’s course, and had so many retorts he didn’t know where to begin.
After a lengthy explanation, Sophia finally understood. The Demons had indeed arrived, but they were just some Low Tier Demons—the kind you could wipe out in droves with a single puff of Dragon Breath.
Her cheeks immediately puffed out, and she huffily stuffed the small bag back under her sleeping blankets.
She resolved to ignore the Lord for a few days. But when a Silver Coin flew through the air in a perfect arc and landed on the table, she suddenly felt that maybe she could lie to herself just this once. Like a happy little hamster, she quickly stuffed it into her small wallet.
Then, she took the initiative to start massaging the Lord’s shoulders.
Unfortunately, her technique was rather awful—a completely random series of prods. But at least her hands were strong, much stronger than the soft, boneless-feeling hands of the Goat-man Maids.
Reclining in his chair, Levi shot Heather a smug look, raising an eyebrow. No one knew how to handle this Little Silver Dragon better than him.
...
As the black curtain of night was torn away, Kolon, having slumbered through the night, began to stir.
First, the entire city was placed under lockdown, with residents forbidden from leaving their homes. Those in the city center had no idea what was happening, but the residents near the walls had been kept awake all night by shrill, miserable screams. Even if the lockdown were lifted, they likely wouldn’t dare to venture out.
However, they all prayed for the same thing in their hearts: ’Let the soldiers fight their wars, but please, don’t let it bring ruin upon us, the unarmed common folk.’
By this time of year, the south was beginning to warm. Life was returning to the land, the birch trees in the woods were a lush green, and the tulips planted near Kolon had begun to bloom.
Unfortunately, this picturesque scenery was utterly ruined by the field of Demon corpses outside the city.
Aside from the corpses near the city wall, the grass farther out was covered in bloody drag marks.
It was obvious that most of the Demon corpses had been dragged away by their own kind, no doubt to be put to good use—as food.
After all, creatures like Demons have no sense of morality. For them, eating their own kind is utterly commonplace.
The sudden bad news had clearly kept many people up all night.
This was most apparent in Liya and Onaya, two women of delicate constitution, who looked listless and yawned from time to time.
Of course, they were nothing compared to Heather, whose eyes were completely bloodshot.
Since arriving at High Cliff Castle, her daily tasks had been to study Magic and meditate to increase her Magic Power. But that was before she was introduced to a certain someone’s homemade card game.
She was instantly hooked and quickly grew to love the game.
Last night, a certain sleepless someone had roped her into a game. They played all night, and since she kept losing, her mind was now completely preoccupied with how she could win the next round.
