Chapter 1055: Chapter 154: Brutal Victory and the Power of Legendary Level Weapons (Part 4)
The fourth is the [Exorcism] Rune. Its rune form is a Holy Grail wreathed in simplified flames, set upon the counterweight orb at the end of the lance shaft: this is the least conspicuous, yet absolutely crucial rune when fighting against the powers of Darkness. It contains a natural repulsive force against Chaos, Undead, and other unnatural existences. When the lance tip pierces, or the shaft smashes into such evil creatures, the rune will briefly erupt with a tiny, pure, blazing golden Light Flame. The flame’s direct damage is limited, but the Power of Order infused in it burns away evil essence, interferes with the Undying Power of the Undead, or makes lesser Chaos Fear Demons shriek in pain and temporarily fall back. It functions more like purification and intimidation—an indispensable aid for human Knights resisting corruption. When the radiance bursts forth, it carries a faint scent akin to holy incense.
With the effects of these four runes layered on, even an Elite Knight wielding this Legendary Battle Lance can challenge a Demon’s Divine Chosen Champion. As long as the Long Lance hits, it can easily pierce through the sturdy Chaos Armor of the Demon’s Divine Chosen Knights.
Yet all of this is almost insignificant when compared to its overwhelming strategic power!
As a Legendary Level Weapon, the Oath Lance already possesses properties on par with a Holy Relic of Glory. When the army’s Commander-in-Chief equips this Legendary Level Weapon, the charge impact power of the Knights and the damage of their weapons both increase significantly. During the charge, the Knights’ weapons will flare with brilliant light, inflicting terrifying slaughter upon the enemy.
When facing the Evil Legion, this power is further enhanced, and additionally gains low Divine Damage and a powerful Armor-Piercing Penetration effect.
In other words, if Su Li takes up this Legendary Battle Lance, personally mounts a Giant Dragon and rides onto the battlefield to clash with the Evil Forces’ minions, or Night Wanderer Corpses and other such evils, then during the charge the Blazing Sun Knights of the Hesse Territory will experience a qualitative leap in combat power.
This is why a single army’s fighting strength differs like heaven and earth depending on whether it is commanded by a Legendary-level commander or not.
Under normal circumstances, one Blazing Sun Knight’s combat power is roughly equal to two Death Knights. But once Su Li equips this Legendary Battle Lance, a single Blazing Sun Knight can even defeat four Death Knights.
What does that mean in practical terms?
It means that for a Knight Battle Group of the same 60 men, when the Blazing Sun Knights and the Death Knights slam brutally into each other, the Blazing Sun Knights might lose only a few Knights and still be able to completely hack apart a full squad of Death Knights.
If, furthermore, the Knight Commander leading this Warband applies sound tactics, they could defeat two Death Knight Warbands in succession while barely expending their own strength.
If the situation has escalated to today’s kind of do-or-die battle, then before this unit of Blazing Sun Knights is wiped out, they can at least drag more than 200 Death Knights down with them.
Thus, even judging purely by combat power, though the Hesse Territory has suffered grievous losses in this campaign, its fighting strength has in fact risen. Once the army is replenished back to full numbers, the combat effectiveness of the Hesse forces will rise another tier.
With only 5,000 Elite Infantry and Cavalry deployed, they can easily crush more than 20,000 Undead Monsters. Easily break them—meaning they will suffer almost no losses, and never again repeat the near-annihilation that was required back when they fought the Green Dragon Legion to earn that bitter victory.
If Aeliria were to fight Su Li again, her Green Dragon’s Fang troops and Subordinate Legions might not even last a single morning before being chopped into pieces by the army of the Hesse Territory. And they would find it hard to inflict any meaningful casualties on Hesse in return.
At the same time, this Legendary Lance has an effect similar to a Tiger Talisman: while Su Li holds this Battle Lance, he can reliably summon two Squadrons of Green Knights to participate in all battles to come.
