Chapter 120 Noble Soul and Savage Body
In the Divine Era, and in epochs even more ancient than the Divine Era, all Life was incomparably powerful.
There were Dragon Species that seemed to exist eternally, birds whose breaths were like hurricanes, and Witches whose falling tears resembled meteorites.
As time leaped forward, all Life converged. Races blended into one another, and even their physical bodies began to fuse. Life forms began to pursue their own uniqueness—namely, a noble soul. It was no longer known who possessed the first noble soul, but Life forms began to fight over the stage to display their souls.
That magnificent sky.
No one could be greater than the Sun, so they chose to become the guiding lights for Life in the dim night. Thus, Life evolved toward the great souls in the sky.
"The reason a Hunter can see through and analyze even a great soul is because the origin of this Profession is a great soul itself—Orion."
"That’s the first time I’ve heard that explanation. The Foreigners all say it’s a Power they call a ’Bug’—which sounds exactly like ’Pa-Bro’ to us."
Not to mention Orion, it was Blaze’s first time hearing that the stars were originally great souls. The Foreigners had never mentioned it either, though he had heard from Merushi that in the Foreigners’ world, there were no longer any stars in the sky.
The chicken flew onto Blaze’s head, spreading her wings in a pose she thought was incredibly majestic.
"What ’Pa-Bro’? When I rise to become a true Bird of High Heaven, I will grant you a ’Ma-Sis’ blessing!"
This fellow had just flipped those two words and claimed them as her own.
"Let me just say, looking at your current state, you are merely Sewing together the Skills of other powerful creatures."
"Is that a bad thing?" the chicken fired back, a question that left Blaze speechless. "When the time comes, my Ma-Sis blessing will be an almighty Power. Is that a bad thing?"
"T-The Power of Ma-Sis... How terrifying!"
Blaze almost knelt down in pious worship. The Power of Leo alone was already so formidable; if all the great souls were to undergo Sewing into...
"Wait a minute. The one Sewing you into an almighty chicken is me, the Night Watcher, isn’t it?"
The chicken on his head fell silent.
"I see how it is~" Blaze drawled, dragging out the last syllable.
"A-Anyway, twelve great souls stood out and occupied the twelve positions that influence the rules. Thus, they were hailed as the Beast Kings." The chicken coughed, stiffly steering the topic back. "Because the great souls are the evolutionary direction of Life, they have a close connection with the Tree of Life. Before the Giant came to this world, noble souls were the only guiding light for Life.
"But the moment that terrifying existence crawled out from the end of the world and stood up, the world’s rules regressed back into savagery and chaos."
Blaze knew that long before this era, there was a world known as the Divine Era. It no longer mattered what that world was like. The moment they witnessed the colossal existence peek its head out from the end of the world, they were doomed to only one outcome: extinction.
The Giant was merely walking—no, according to the remnant history of the Divine Era, the Giant was joyfully running, jumping, and dancing, using its legs as if celebrating the fact that it could stand. That era was completely destroyed. The surviving forms of Life all arrived in the next era under the protection of the Tree of Life.
In fear and awe, the survivors passed down poems praising the Giant.
"The Giant, that magnificent Giant, the one of Life, the entirety of Life. Its Life is the furnace of all things, and its blood is the salvation of souls."
This single line of poetry summarized everything about the Titan Giant. It was a soulless physical body. Therefore, a drop of sweat, a strand of hair, or a chunk of flesh were all independent entities. Upon separating from the Titan Giant, they would all transform into incomparably powerful Monsters. And the Power of these Monsters all originated from the blood of the Titan Giant.
The appearance of the Titan Giant caused the creatures, who had lost the guidance of the great souls in the sky, to once again pursue savage physicality. The moment the Titan Giant fell and a sea of blood brimming with Power descended from the heavens, the guidance of the stars faded away completely.
"The great souls successively sank into the carnival of blood. Even so, their essence did not change," the chicken continued. "They simply came to enjoy their physical instincts more."
"Is that why you said the first one is Aries?" Blaze stroked his chin. No matter how he looked at it, an Aries sounded like a herbivore, making it much easier to bully.
With one glance, the chicken knew that Blaze thought the herbivorous Aries would be easy to deal with, but she decided to leave this matter for later, after they had resolved the Lion. Otherwise, Blaze wouldn’t be able to sleep at night.
"Cough, cough. The trouble with the Lion is that its essence is conquest, rule, and hunting. If you want to stop the Lion’s atrocities, the only way is to challenge the old king as a new king.
"And a challenge for the throne can only end in blood."
"Meaning, combat is the only option. That actually makes things quite a bit simpler." Blaze let out a breath. This solution did not exceed his expectations. Such a colossal existence would never coexist with minuscule creatures.
"Um..." The chicken suddenly grew embarrassed. Shrinking her neck, she whispered, "Can you... can you promise that you’ll only make a contract with me from now on?
"I couldn’t stand having another loudmouth constantly squawking next to me."
"Yahoo!"
Although Blaze did not answer directly, the chicken cheered happily.
Blaze gave a helpless smile and focused earnestly on their journey.
Balkan City was the place he had always lived. As a city with very safe surroundings, there were basically no exceptionally powerful Foreigners here. Considering that this special event had to be done quietly and kept hidden from the Foreigners, Blaze deliberately concealed his movements.
At times like this, the Black Wolfman was incredibly useful. The Black Wolfman only needed to move close to the ground, while Blaze could lounge comfortably in the shadow. He managed to enter Balkan City without being discovered by anyone and arrived at the underground cellar of the Dionysus Tavern.
However, the Black Wolfman seemed quite dissatisfied with being used this way. After Blaze stylishly jumped out of the shadow, it continued to stare at him intently from behind with a gloomy gaze.
Blaze turned his head, his eyes involuntarily drawn to its thick, muscular arms. The Black Wolfman’s arms had been broken into several segments during the Marika Impact, yet they had fully regenerated in an instant.
He wondered whether this fellow was considered an item or a Summoning. Even if he asked the chicken, she was completely unable to discern the Black Wolfman’s nature. She could only use vague explanations like "a shadow of blood" to cover up her embarrassment.
"What kind of existence are you exactly?"
Naturally, the Black Wolfman couldn’t answer his question. Crossing its arms over its chest, it slowly sank and disappeared into the darkness.
"This guy definitely has a terrible personality."
Blaze shrugged, then began his preparations: crafting a new body for the chicken and granting her the Dragon Power.
