Salamence’s actions made it very clear.
She was giving her child to Julian.
Holding Bagon, who was flailing his short little legs and arms as if trying to take off, Julian sighed.
Octavius held back his laughter.
"Since Salamence gave you the child, just accept him. Raise him well, and Salamence’s strength won’t be any worse than Garchomp!"
"Then if you catch Goodra too, maybe you’ll become Sinnoh’s new Dragon-type Elite Four!"
The corner of Julian’s mouth twitched.
I’m a Fighting-type Gym Leader. How have I become a future Dragon-type Elite Four?
Paul was somewhat surprised.
"There’s Goodra in the Great Marsh too?"
Maylene blinked.
"What kind of Pokémon is Goodra?"
Paul explained, "Goodra is a representative Pokémon of the Kalos region. It’s Dragon type and likes living in damp environments like wetlands."
"But considering the distance between Kalos and Sinnoh, Goodra appearing in Sinnoh is very unusual."
Octavius was somewhat surprised.
"Goodra is a Kalos Pokémon? Then Goodra’s appearance really is unusual, just like Milotic."
"They both seem to have appeared out of nowhere, making our Safari Zone feel more alive."
Maylene curiously asked, "Then what about Salamence? Did she appear out of nowhere too?"
Octavius sighed helplessly.
"Not exactly. She flew into the Safari Zone in a very loud and open way. As soon as she arrived, she beat up the Gabite that originally lived in this area."
"Even the cave Salamence lives in now was dug out by Gabite back then."
Paul gained a much clearer understanding of the Safari Zone’s richness.
He tentatively asked, "There wouldn’t happen to be Dragonite in the Safari Zone too, would there?"
Octavius shook his head.
"Not for now, but maybe there will be in the future. The Great Marsh’s environment really is quite suitable for Dratini and Dragonair to live in."
Julian smiled and said, "The Great Marsh’s rivers connect to the sea. Water-type Pokémon that leave the Great Marsh will tell the Pokémon in the sea about this place."
"If a Dragonair likes the Great Marsh’s environment, maybe it really will migrate from the sea and live here."
Octavius nodded repeatedly.
"Right, right, right! Exactly! When Dragonair moves in, I’ll definitely call Gym Leader Veyne immediately!"
He had said he would give Gym Leader Veyne a Pokémon from the Safari Zone, yet the man had not caught a single one.
The only Bagon he had accepted had been personally forced into Julian’s arms by Salamence.
And from the look of him, he did not seem that eager to accept Bagon either.
Octavius looked at the sky.
"Gym Leader Veyne, why don’t you want to catch Bagon?"
Julian put Bagon down and took out Moomoo Milk, pouring a large bowl for him.
At first, Bagon still missed his mother a little. But after smelling the fragrance of Moomoo Milk and drinking happily, that small bit of longing for his mother instantly vanished like smoke.
Julian smiled and stroked Bagon’s head.
"Once you catch a Pokémon, you need to be responsible for them. I already have Hakamo-o to take care of, and I don’t know how many years it will take before he evolves into his final form."
"If I add another Bagon, I may not be able to look after him properly."
Raising a pseudo-legendary really consumed too much of a Trainer.
Even Cynthia had spent eight years raising Garchomp from an Egg.
This Bagon had hatched no more than half a year ago.
"Mr Octavius, do you know how long ago Bagon hatched?"
Octavius shook his head.
"I’m not too clear on the exact time. In any case, Salamence has only been active around the Safari Zone with Bagon for the past two or three months."
For ordinary Pokémon, the juvenile stage might only last two or three months in total.
But for Dragon-type Pokémon, two or three months was merely the beginning. Even a year might not be enough for them to leave infancy.
Compared to when he first raised Jangmo-o, Julian now did have more experience, and his Dragon-type breeding talent had improved.
But he was not sure whether, in ten years, he could raise Bagon into Salamence.
Even Clair, the Gym Leader of Blackthorn Gym and Lance’s cousin from a family of Dragon Tamers, only evolved her Dratini into Dragonair with the assistance of Ash’s group and Team Rocket.
If he raised Hakamo-o and Bagon at the same time, it was very possible he would end up achieving nothing with either.
Before Hakamo-o evolved into Kommo-o, Julian would not invest too much energy into raising Bagon.
Unless, during a simulation, he randomly drew the Dragon type, obtained an S-rank evaluation, and raised his Dragon affinity to roughly the same level as his Fighting affinity.
Only then would he have the confidence to raise two Dragon-type pseudo-legendaries at the same time.
Even Clair, a hereditary Dragon Tamer, had only used Kingdra as her ace before Dragonair evolved.
Maylene tugged on Julian’s sleeve.
"Brother, can we go see that Goodra?"
"From the name, it feels like a really pretty Pokémon. It shouldn’t lose to Milotic by much."
Octavius immediately said, "I’ll take you there. Goodra is such a wonderful Pokémon, you definitely have to see her!"
Octavius had still not given up on making Julian accept Goodra.
He enthusiastically called Maylene and Paul over to admire Goodra’s beauty.
Julian wiped the milk stains from the corner of Bagon’s mouth and placed him on Hakamo-o’s back.
He remembered that Bagon’s head was also extremely hard, so he could let Hakamo-o take him along for training.
With Hakamo-o’s ability, he was completely capable of raising Bagon.
Aside from not being able to fly, Hakamo-o was far more reliable than Bagon’s mother.
Sitting on Hakamo-o’s back, Bagon smiled happily.
Hakamo-o also quite liked this new little brother.
Primeape, who had received treatment, was returned to his Poké Ball to rest.
Gallade insisted on staying outside to protect Julian.
He was worried a second Pokémon Hunter might jump out and possibly harm his Trainer.
When they arrived at Goodra’s habitat, they happened to see Salamence battling Goodra, who was standing in a pond.
Maylene shouted in surprise, "She only just fought Primeape! Why is Salamence fighting Goodra now?"
Paul frowned slightly.
Why did this Goodra look different from the Goodra he had seen in Pokémon encyclopaedia books?
That silvery-white snail shell on her tail — did Goodra have something like that?
This was an extremely rare mutated Goodra.
How could Julian give up on it?
Salamence’s Dragon Pulse struck Goodra, but it did not leave an obvious wound on her body.
Maylene loudly shouted, "Look! Goodra’s defences are so strong!"
Octavius nodded and said, "A Goodra this powerful — don’t you think she’s very suitable for Gym Leader Veyne to catch?"
Maylene nodded firmly.
"Yes! Brother, I also think you absolutely can’t miss her!"
Paul also opened his mouth to persuade him.
"I read an idea in a book before. The more Dragon-type Pokémon gather together, the more they can promote each other’s growth."
"Julian, if you catch Goodra, maybe she can help Hakamo-o evolve faster."
As expected of a well-read person, Paul’s idea dispelled his biggest concern.
Julian’s eyes lit up.
"There’s such a saying about Dragon types?"
Paul nodded.
"That’s right. Dragons like fighting their own kind. The more they battle, the greater their improvement. Salamence probably likes fighting Goodra for that reason too."
Goodra raised her head and spat out a blue Dragon Pulse. Its power was not inferior to Salamence’s at all.
Julian nodded in satisfaction.
"Then after I send you two off, I’ll return to the Safari Zone and try to catch Goodra!"
